JAMES STEWART writes us:
“Ok let me let YOU in on a “wake up call”. Iran has signed the “Nuclear Non Proliferation Agreement” and Israel has NOT. Now by LAW the USA may NOT have anything to do with any Country or State that has Nuclear Weapons and has NOT signed that agreement. Also by law the USA must help any signing Country or State with their Nuclear Program. That is the Law. Now since we are talking about Law, out of the 2 … only Israel is under total Defiance of Inter
national Law. Iran complies. Iran has not attacked anybody since 1917 & they have purely a defensive force. Their Military spending is roughly 1/4 that of Saudi Arabia. Lastly, and most importantly, ANYONE exploding a Nuclear Weapon in the Middle East is committing suicide. Especially Iran, as even without retaliation, the Nuclear Cloud would travel directly from Israel over Iran, which is where MOST of the Nuclear Death comes from. Now unplug CNN, get a brain & Google it if you do not know these facts.”https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=284566568311730&set=a.251925374909183.40134.251534891614898&type=1&theater

Ahmadinejad: Mideast upheaval will reach America
TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s president said Wednesday he is certain the wave of unrest in the Middle East will spread to Europe and North America, bringing an end to governments he accused of oppressing and humiliating people. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s own country resorted to force to disperse an opposition rally earlier this month. “The world is on the verge of big developments. Changes will be forthcoming and will engulf the whole world from Asia to Africa and from Europe to North America,” Ahmadinejad told a news conference Wednesday. The tone of the remarks seemed to draw on the belief by Muslims that a revered saint, known as the Hidden Imam, will appear before Judgment Day to end tyranny and promote justice in the world. Ahmadinejad said the world was in need of a just system of rule that “puts an end to oppression, occupation and humiliation of people.*1″…”It’s a wave that’s coming,” he said. Ahmadinejad spoke of the absurdity of the accusation that al-Qathafi would hurt his own people! “This is very grotesque. It is unimaginable that there is someone who kills and bombards his own people. I strongly advise them to let nations have their say and meet their nations’ demands if they claim to be the officials of those nations,” Ahmadinejad said. “Of course anyone who does not heed the demands of his own nation will have a clear fate,” he added. He seemed to have an air of disbelief that the reports were true about Muammar al-Qathafi (killing his citizens), who does not even hold a position of political power in the Holy Jamahiriya! Copyright 2011 edited from The Associated Press report. *1: THAT SYSTEM is the Third Universal Theory of Muammar al-Qathafi (HOLY JAMAHIRIYA). The Third Universal Theory is the only Salvation for our ailing Planet. Many hold to the belief that Muammar al-Qathafi is not only an IMAM and Mujjadid, he is also the MAHDI! 03 MAY 2010 al-Qathafi on Ahmadinejad:
Der Spiegel interview by Bernhard Zand
SPIEGEL: And how do you view Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?
Gadhafi: He is cooperative, a revolutionary, but not aggressive. And he believes that he is right. Why are the Israelis not kept in check by the West? Why do these campaigns always only focus on Syria, Iraq and Iran? Why is Israel omitted when everyone of course knows that Israel has nuclear weapons? If Obama wants to be successful, he has to start by controlling the Israelis and eliminating Israeli weapons of mass destruction, and then he will also be successful in Iran and throughout the entire region.
SPIEGEL: Ahmadinejad says that Israel should be wiped off the map. [HE DID NOT. THAT IS A TWISTED LIE!]
You on the other hand have spoken for years in favor of a state in which Israelis and Palestinians would live together.
Gadhafi: I don’t think that Ahmadinejad means the violent destruction of Israel when he says this. I think he is thinking of a new democratic state structure to replace the current state of Israel — on the territory of what is geographically Palestine. No one is talking about throwing Jews into the sea.

SPIEGEL: You always supported German unity, even at the height of the Cold War, and in the end you proved to be correct. But you have been proved wrong in some of your other predictions, for example that there will never be “an Islamic nuclear bomb.”
[PROVEN TRUE. Ahmadinejad does not desire an atomic bomb or weapons of Mass Destruction.]
What gives you such a sense of confidence in your frequent predictions?
Gadhafi: I look at the facts and calculate the consequences — and when it came to Germany, it was the same as everywhere in the world: Two and two make four. There is no other answer.
SPIEGEL: Where do you get your facts? Do you watch television? Do you read books?
Gadhafi: I get most of them from the Internet. I constantly sit at my computer. I read in Arabic, but now it is of course also possible to immediately get translations from English.
Young Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
President leads the faithful awaiting return of 12th imam
Ahmadinejad uses saviour of Shia Islam as powerful tool in political arena
The Guardian, Tuesday 21 February 2006
“Perhaps they think they are going to draw the attraction of people through this. But the risk is that people will start identifying politics with Islam and the prophets and as soon as they spot political defects, they will blame Islam.”
“His name is known and he will emerge and establish justice in the world. I’m proud of this belief. It’s not just a religious belief, it’s very progressive. A belief in the 12th imam is a belief in the world of tomorrow.”

The funny little guy with Governor Schwartzennagger on 04 JUNE 2007 is Ahmadinejad! Yes, yes, he’s quite deceptive sporting the clean-shaven look, but the evidence is as undeniable as the fact that there are no homosexuals in Iran…. Many Islamists despise Kadhafi of Libya and Ahmadinejad of Iran because they do not sport massive beards! & cite their Quaran:
Shaving The Beard: A Modern Effeminacy Abu`Abdillah Muhammad al-Jibaly, Al-Quran Was-Sunnah Society
The Islamic Ruling Concerning Beards
Growing the beard is a wajib (mandatory) for all males
A List of Violations
Shaving the beard results in a series of Islamic violations, as is obvious from Allah’s Book and His Messenger’s Sunnah. The following is a list (not necessarily comprehensive) of such violations:
a. A Disobedience to Allah (T) Shaving the beard is a disobedience to Allah (T). The ruler of Yemen, appointed by the Persian emperor Kisraa, sent two envoys to the Messenger (S) to summon him. When they came into his presence, he noticed that they had shaved their beards and grew their moustaches. He hated to look at them (because of their odd appearance) and he said: Woe be to you, who told you to do so? They replied: “Our lord! (referring to Kisraa.)” The Messenger (S) then said:But my Lord, may He be exalted and glorified, has commanded me to leave alone my beard and to trim my moustache. [Recorded by Ibn Jar r a-abar , and judged to be Hasan (good) by al-Albani.] b. A Disobedience To the Messenger (S) Shaving the beard is a disobedience to the Messenger (S). In many hadiths, the Messenger (S) commanded men to leave alone their beards. These different hadiths have a similar meaning: Trim the moustache and save the beard. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] Obeying the Messenger (S) in that is equivalent to obeying Allah (T) who said (what means): He who obeys the Messenger has indeed obeyed Allah. [An-Nisaa 4:80] c. A Deviation from the Appearance and Guidance of the Messenger (S) Shaving the beard is a deviation from the appearance and guidance of the Messenger (S). The Messenger (S) used to have a large beard [Muslim]. One should strive to imitate him (S) in his practices, as Allah (T) said (what means):In the Messenger of Allah is a good example for you to follow. [Al-Ahzab 33:21] And the Messenger (S) said: Verily, the best guidance is Muhammad’s guidance. [Muslim] d. A Deviation from the Way of Believers Shaving the beard is a deviation from the way of believers. All the prophets (S), the sahbah (Prophet’s companions), the great `ulamaa, and the righteous early Muslims of this Ummah (Nation) grew their beards. There is no report of a single one of them ever shaving his beard. Thus, this is their way, and Allah (T) says (in the meaning): Whoever disobeys the Messenger after guidance has been clarified to him, and follows other than the path of the believers, We shall give to him what he deserves and broil him in hell, which is the worst abode. [An-Nisaa 4:115] e. An Imitation of the Disbelievers Shaving the beard is an imitation of the disbelievers. This has been emphasized in several hadiths of the Prophet (S). For example: Cut the moustaches and grow your beards. Be different from the Magians (followers of a religion that dominated in Persia). [Muslim] Cut your moustaches and leave your beards alone. Be different from the people of the scripture. [Muslim] Be different from the Mushrikin (those who worship other than Allah (T)); trim your moustaches and save your beards. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] We have been commanded to be different and distinct from the disbelievers, as in surat ul-Fatihah. Also, Allah (T) said (what means): Follow not the whims of those who have no knowledge (of Islam). [Al-Jathiyah 45:18] And His Messenger (S) said: Whoever imitates a people is but one of them. [Recorded by Abu Dawud, and judged to be authentic by al-Albani] f. Changing Allah’s Creation without Permission The Messenger (S) declared that the women who change what Allah (T) has created (such as removing the hair from their faces or filing their teeth or tattooing their bodies) seeking by that to improve their appearance, are accursed by Allah (T). [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] The hadith mentioned women in particular because they normally seek to beautify themselves more than men. But the warning surely applies to both sexes, because the condition for the curse is declared, and thus the curse applies to anyone who satisfies such condition. Shaving the beard falls under this warning, as it is much worse than the Nam (removal of facial hair) practiced by some women. It involves obeying Satan who said: And I shall tempt them until they change what Allah has created. [An-Nisaa 4:119] g. An Imitation of Women The beard is a major distinction between men and women. Shaving it removes this distinction, and is thus a means of imitating women. The Messenger (S) said: Allah curses those men who imitate the women, and He curses those women who imitate the men. [Al-Bukhari] h. Shaving the Beard Contradicts the Pure Fitrah (Nature) Allah’s Messenger (S) mentioned ten qualities as indicative of a good, clean nature [Muslim]. Two of these qualities are to trim the moustaches and to grow the beard. The Messenger (S) also tells that every child is born with a clean, pure fitrah, which later may get deformed by the influence of the environment and the up-bringing. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. In the footsteps of the disbelievers, many Muslims’ fitrah is now, unfortunately, so much deformed that they seem to find a clean-shaven man more handsome and masculine than one with a beard – exactly the opposite of what the Messenger (S) declared in the above hadith. This fitrah never changes with time: Allah (T) said (what means): The pure nature according to which Allah has created people. There is no change in Allah’s creation. [Ar-Room 30:30] For shaving their beards, some men give the strange excuse that their wives prefer them without one! As if their purpose in this life is to follow the deformed inclinations of their wives instead of the clear-cut commands of Allah (T) and His Messenger (S)! Others claim that growing their beards results in an irritability and scratching. This cannot result from abiding by the pure fitrah, but would result (if true) from neglect of the proper cleaning and washing with wudu as instructed in the Sunnah.
What the `Ulamaa and Imams Say
All the `ulamaa of as-Salaf u- li, including the Four Imams, agreed that shaving the beard is haram (prohibited). They considered shaving it an impermissible mutilation, as has been reported about Umar bin Abdil-Aziz. They used to consider the person who shaved his beard effeminate. Many of them would not accept his witness or allow him to lead the prayers.
May Allah (T) guide us to abide by His Deen, and to adhere to His Messenger’s Sunnah, and to be among those whom he blessed in both lives. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___ ______Why many people, all over the world, call him their leader but he know himself, only their little brother. 24 October 2007 (Wednesday) HECTORwrites:
Ahmadinejad was asked whether or not he seeks the destruction of Israel at Columbia University, and this is what he said. Judge for yourself:
“We love all nations. We are friends with the Jewish people. There are many Jews in Iran living peacefully with security. You must understand that in our constitution, in our laws, in the parliamentary elections, for every 150,000 people we get one representative in the parliament. For the Jewish community, one-fifth of this number they still get one independent representative in the parliament. So our proposal to the Palestinian plight is a humanitarian and democratic proposal. What we say is that to solve the 60-year problem we must allow the Palestinian people to decide about its future for itself. This is compatible with the spirit of the Charter of the United Nations and the fundamental principles enshrined in it. We must allow Jewish Palestinians, Muslim Palestinians and Christian Palestinians to determine their own fate themselves through a free referendum. Whatever they choose as a nation everybody should accept and respect. Nobody should interfere in the affairs of the Palestinian nation. Nobody should sow the seeds of discord.
Nobody should spend tens of billions of dollars equipping and arming one group there. We say allow the Palestinian nation to decide its own future, to have the right to self-determination for itself. This is what we are saying as the Iranian nation.” His words sound like the foundations of true democracy to me.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: President of Iran (Belle reliure)de Matthew Broyles (Auteur) |
Perhaps you have heard the name Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the news many times, but have no idea who he is, where he comes from and why we hear about him so often. He is the president of Iran and according to this book, “the histories of the United States and Iran are thickly entangled.” One of the many things we often hear about are stories about Shiite and Sunni Muslims. In the history section of this book, we are told the difference. In addition to a brief history of Iran we also learn about its former leadership. Mahmoud was born in 1956 in the small village of Garmsar. He was a very bright student who went on to be a civil engineering student, but he was also very interested in politics. During times of political unrest Mahmoud listened and learned. It is a topic of debate whether or not he was a participant in the American hostage crisis. In 1980 Ahmadinejad’s role in politics began to spiral upwards. Chapters in this book include: Persian and Iranian History, Ahmadinejad and the Iranian Revolution, The Iran-Iraq War, The Iranian System of Government, Ahmadinejad Rises to Power and Ahmadinejad and Iran’s Nuclear Program. This is a very interesting, comprehensive and well written young adult biography of Ahmadinejad. In the back of the book there is a nice timeline of his life, a glossary, additional recommended sources of information (including physical addresses and web sites), a thorough bibliography and index. As the Broyles states in the last chapter, “When the history of the twenty-first century is written, the name Ahmadinejad will undoubtedly be featured prominently.” This is a man young people need to acquaint themselves within their studies.

Ahmadinejad grooms chief-of-staff to take over as Iran’s president
Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei is controversial figure at odds with religious leaders, according to leaked embassy cable

Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, consults his chief-of-staff, Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei. Photograph: Alireza Sotakbar/ISNAA close ally of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who favours cultural openness and opposes greater clerical involvement in politics, is being groomed as a possible successor to the Iranian president when he steps down in two years time. Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, Ahmadinejad’s chief-of-staff, is positioning himself as a candidate who will champion a nationalist rather than a theological narrative of Iran.Mashaei, whose daughter married Ahmadinejad’s son, has become the most controversial political figure in Iran, provoking harsh criticism from the conservative establishment, including the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Hardliners close to Khamenei have accused Mashaei of compromising the Islamic Revolution and the principles of Islam by focusing on Persian history. Mashaei infuriated conservatives in 2008 when he said that Iranians are “friends of all people in the world – even Israelis”. He was also criticised for applauding at a ceremony in Turkey in which women performed a traditional dance.Women are not allowed to dance in Iran. Mashaei used to head Iran’s cultural heritage organisation. He was appointed first vice-president in 2009 when Ahmadinejad resumed office following disputed elections that generated mass protests. But he was forced to step down when Khamenei intervened and said in a letter to the president that “the regime’s expediency” required Mashaei to leave his post. Ahmadinejad appointed Mashaei as chief-of-staff instead, a move seen by many as a blow to Khamenei and the first sign of split emerging between the president and the supreme leader. A confidential US diplomatic cable revealed by WikiLeaks said the incident underlined Mashaei’s significance in Ahmadinejad’s team.”“Ahmadinejad’s stubborn defence of Mashaei bespeaks his importance as a key adviser for the increasingly isolated president; he also has emerged as a spokesman for the Ahmadinejad administration. Ahmadinejad has even told press that he would gladly serve as vice-president in a Mashaei administration, prompting many to speculate that Ahmadinejad seeks to have Mashaei replace him in 2013,” the cable reads. Some analysts believe that a regime which has crushed the green opposition movement and is short of internal opposition, is merely creating one in order to create a show of legitimacy come the next election.Hooshang Amirahmadi, the president of the American Iranian Council who knows Mashaei, told the Guardian: “The reformist movement in Iran did not succeed for various reasons. I think Mashaei has become another alternative and the regime is using this opportunity to heat up the next election in Iran. Mashaei is saying that Iranians are at first Iranians and Islam comes afterward. “He is reviving a source of national pride of Iranians, something that has been neglected not only since the Islamic Revolution in 1979 but in the past two centuries.”Amirahmadi said: “After the revolution, an extensive obsession with Islam made the authorities neglect Iran’s history and Mashaei is now seeking to promote this sort of nationalistic narrative. I think Ahmadinejad himself is also in favour of Iran’s history and has sought to revive Iran’s ancient glory and power.” Iranians are proud of their history and still largely celebrate many ancient traditions that goes back as far as the country’s Zoroastrian era, such as the Persian new year, Nowruz. Mashaei is also believed to have played a crucial role in securing the loan from the British Museum of the Cyrus Cylinder. The artefact, considered the first human rights charter, was seen by a million visitors in Tehran during its six-month exhibition, although hardliners and clerics largely boycotted the event. The relic was returned to the UK last week. “Obviously Mashaei’s nationalistic views are a threat to clerics. They are afraid that their power might wane if people begin to respect their pre-Islamic history,” Amirahmadi said.Mashaei, whose name has been touted among political activists as a possible 2013 candidate, has not ruled out the possibility of running for president, recently telling reporters he would make a definitive decision six months from the election. Kayhan, a newspaper aligned with Khamenei, predicted that Iran’s powerful Guardian Council would block Mashaei’s candidacy if he decides to run.The Guardian Council vets all candidates before any elections in Iran. Mashaei, who is launching a newspaper next month, is also believed to have tried to secure the release of three Americans detained in Iran, a move that resulted in the release of one of the prisoners, Sarah Shourd. Her friends, Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, remain in Tehran after their release was believed to have been blocked by hardliners.Series: US embassy cables: the documents
US embassy cables: Mashaei groomed as possible successor to Ahmadinejad in Iran
- guardian.co.uk, Thursday 21 April 2011 15.09 BST
Cable dated:2010-01-28T14:32:00 C O N F I D E N T I A L SECTION 01 OF 03 RPO DUBAI 000023 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: DECL: 2020/01/28 TAGS: PGOV, IR, PREL SUBJECT: IRAN: Ahmadinejad Ally Mashaei Lightning Rod for Criticism CLASSIFIED BY: Charles Pennypacker, Consular Officer, DOS, IRPO; REASON: 1.4(B), (D)1. (C) SUMMARY: President Ahmadinejad’s relationship with his Chief of Staff Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei has become a source of aggravation for Ahmadinejad’s hardline supporters and an easy target for his political opponents. Mashaei has a long history of missteps and provocative comments, most recently a January 10 speech that critics blasted for contravening Islamic principles. In response to this latest affront, critics from across the political spectrum have derided Mashaei’s intrusion into religious matters, and hardliners in particular beseeched the president to dump his oft-beleaguered sidekick – to no avail. Ahmadinejad has defended Mashaei through several contentious episodes dating to his first term, and his refusal to remove Mashaei has inspired confusion and derision. As an IRPO contact recently observed, Ahmadinejad’s attachment to Mashaei may reflect that the president has a very limited number of trusted lieutenants, Mashaei among them.END SUMMARY.Background2. (SBU) Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei first became embroiled in controversy during Ahmadinejad’s first term, when he served as Vice President for Cultural Heritage and Tourism and also headed Iran’s Tourism Organization. As part of a 2005 economic conference in Turkey he attended a cultural ceremony featuring female dancers. A video of Mashaei at the ceremony surfaced a year later and was broadcast on state media, sparking criticism that Mashaei violated Islamic principles by watching women dance. Subsequently, in July 2008 Mashaei elicited broad criticism by deeming Iran a friend of the Israeli people. In the face of fierce criticism, Mashaei reiterated his remarks, prompting a campaign to remove him. Ahmadinejad, however, publically backed Mashaei.3. (SBU) Instead, after his 2009 reelection, Ahmadinejad elevated Mashaei to First Vice President. A mix of Ahmadinejad’s conservative detractors and supporters collectively denounced the promotion, citing Mashaei’s abovementioned transgressions as well as concerns about his unorthodox religious beliefs. Many in Ahmadinejad’s base of support demanded that he retract the order. The opposition to Mashaei, and Ahmadinejad’s refusal to acquiesce, eventually compelled Supreme Leader Khamenei to send a letter to Ahmadinejad demanding Mashaei’s removal. Incredibly, Ahmadinejad relented only after state media publicized the letter several days later amid warnings that Ahmadinejad must heed Khamenei’s wishes. In the face of the Supreme Leader’s opposition to Mashaei, Ahmadinejad made Mashaei his Chief of Staff, prompting official IRGC media organs to castiage Ahmadinejad for ignoring the spirit if not the letter of Khamenei’s guidance.Biography4. (SBU) Mashaei was born in 1960 in Ramsar and attended Esfahan Industrial University, where he studied electrical engineering. The origins of his relationship with Ahmadinejad are unclear, though a Fars News Agency account says they met when Ahmadinejad was governor of the city of Khoi in the late 1980s and Mashaei was serving in the Intelligence Ministry.(NOTE: Mashaei’s daughter married Ahmadinejad’s son in 2008. END NOTE.)In addition to his past work in the Intelligence Ministry, Mashaei’s website lists several other official jobs: – General Manager for Social Affairs, Interior Ministry – Manager, Payam Radio Station – Manager, Tehran Radio Station – Deputy for Social Affairs and Culture, Tehran Municipality DUBAI 00000023 002 OF 003 – Director, Iran TourismOrganization5. (SBU) Mashaei’s website also lists the various posts he currently holds in the Ahmadinejad government beyond his role as chief of staff: – Director, Center for Study of Globalization – President’s Deputy, Supreme Council for Iranians Abroad – Member, Government Cultural Committee – President’s Representative, Council Overseeing IRIB – Member, Government Economic and Cultural Committee6. (SBU) Ahmadinejad’s stubborn defense of Mashaei bespeaks his importance as a key advisor for the increasingly isolated president; he also has emerged as a spokesman for the Ahmadinejad administration. Ahmadinejad has even told press that he would gladly serve as Vice-President in a Mashaei administration, prompting many to speculate that Ahmadinejad seeks to have Mashaei replace him in 2013.A Political Punching Bag7. (C) Since his installation as Chief of Staff, Mashaei has attracted far more attention for his ‘unofficial’ comments about religion, bearing out the earlier whispers that the opposition to Mashaei stemmed from his unorthodox religious views. An IRPO contact last summer said many clerics were concerned by Mashaei’s belief in the imminent return of the Twelfth Imam and by the intrusion of a layman into religious matters. During Ahmadinejad’s second term Mashaei has repeatedly stoked withering criticism by airing his religious views – and, in doing so, provided great fodder too for the president’s political foes.8. (C) The criticism of Mashaei, and Ahmadinejad by association, is both real and opportunistic. Ahmadinejad’s hardline backers bristle at Mashaei’s presence in his government and time again beseech him to dump him. Kayhan Newspaper in November responded to a Mashaei assertion that ‘God is not the axis of unity among men’ by arguing that his comments contravene Islam and other religions and suggesting to Ahmadinejad that the government, the people of Iran, and the president himself would all be better off without Mashaie. The IRGC newspaper Sobh-e Sadegh a week later sent Ahmadinejad the same message-that he should abandon Mashaei.9. (C) On January 10 during a university speech Mashaei invited derision by denigrating past prophets’ management ability. According to BBC Farsi, Mashaei pointed out that the prophet Noah (there are many prophets in Islam) lived for 950 years and even in that time was not able to establish ‘justice,’ thus creating the need for more prophets. A clerical supporter responded by complaining that Mashaei’s presence on the Ahmadinejad government causes much pain for the president’s supporters. Kayhan followed suit and carried an article mocking Mashaei and asking that he stay out of such matters. Ahmadinejad’s brother Davud, the former head of the president’s office of inspection, accused Mashaei of saying “absurd” things to keep the system busy and to prevent progress towards Khomeini’s goals. He mockingly implied that Mashaei’s only ‘accomplishment’ is his friendship with Hooshang Amir Ahmadi.(COMMENT: Davud Ahmadinejad, who resigned his position as in August 2008, reportedly did so due to disagreements with his brother regarding Mashaei. END COMMENT.)DUBAI 00000023 003 OF 00310. (SBU) Ahmadinejad’s opponents use the president’s relationship with Mashaei for mockery and to score political points. Numerous IRPO contacts have related well known anecdotes about Mashaei’s religious views and firm belief in the imminent return of the Twelfth Imam. Among them is the political ‘urban myth’ in Tehran that Ahmadinejad’s devotion to Mashaei is said to stem from his belief that Mashaei is in fact in direct contact with the Twelfth Imam. According to these rumors, Mashaei allegedly occasionally enters a trance-like state to communicate with the Twelfth Imam or will sometimes randomly say ‘hello’ to no one at all and then explain that the Twelfth Imam just passed by.11. (SBU) On January 17 the moderate website ‘Ayande News’ carried an article about a meeting between Ahmadinejad and his supporters in which he defended Mashaei and referred to him as ‘Ohleeah ollah’, a title reserved for Islam’s most revered. Afterwards, the meeting’s organizer compared the relationship of Ahmadinejad and Mashaei to that of a ‘disciple and a mystic master.’ The oppositionist website ‘Rah-e Sabz’ has carried innumerable derogatory stories about Mashaei, among them allegations that Mashaei has assisted in the sale of Iranian antiquities outside of the country and that Mashaei’s family members have received jobs at the state-owned carmaker Saipa.12. (SBU) The recent attacks on Mashaei seemingly culminated with reports of Mashaei’s resignation. On January 20, for example, the website ‘Khabar Online’ (affiliated with Majlis Speaker Larijani) published rumors that Mashaei would soon resign his position. The report cited a Majlis member who said that he regarded Mashaei as a “spent force.” However, Mashaei that day denied the reports of his resignation and the protests continued. BBC Farsi on January 27 reported that a Majlis faction aligned with traditional conservatives, the ‘Front of the Followers of the Line of the Imam and the Supreme Leader,’ sent Ahmadinejad a letter asking him to remove Mashaei.13. (C) COMMENT: Mashaei’s presence in the Ahmadinejad government and the criticism he elicits illustrates some of the ongoing factional divisions in Tehran. That Larijani and other more moderate principlists use Mashaei to badger Ahmadinejad is not surpising; these camps have been jockeying for position since the 2005 presidential election campaign. More interesting is the criticism from Ahmadinejad’s hardline supporters. These hardliners still rely on the traditional clergy for a patina of Islamic legitimacy, and the clerical class’ near universal distaste for Mashaei’s version of Islam contributes to the hardline animosity to Ahmadinejad. To date, the criticism of Mashaei has stopped short of attacking Ahmadinejad directly, but his backers seem increasingly weary of Mashaei’s antics and Ahmadinejad’s patience for them. Ahmadinejad, who reportedly believes Mashaei is merely misunderstood, seems doggedly determined to retain his chief of staff even in the face of protests from his base. It was only with Khamenei’s direct intervention that Ahmadinejad grudgingly retracted Mashaei’s elevation to first vice president; it seems that to depose Mashaei, his critics may need to enlist the Supreme Leader once again.END COMMMENT. EYREDid President Ahamdinejad ever threaten to “wipe Israel off the map”?
Posted: 2011/11/16 From: Source http://www.mathaba.net/news/?x=629371?rss Iranian President actually only said: “The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time”.By Kurt Templin Did President Ahamdinejad ever threaten to “wipe Israel off the map”? According to the Jews, that’s what the Iranian President said in a speech in October 2005. So what did he actually say? The full quote translated directly to English: “The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time”. To quote his exact words in farsi: “Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad.” That passage will mean nothing to most people, but one word might ring a bell: rezhim-e. It is the word “Regime”, pronounced just like the English word with an extra “eh” sound at the end. Ahmadinejad did not refer to Israel the country or Israel the land mass, but the Israeli regime. This is a vastly significant distinction, as one cannot wipe a regime off the map. Ahmadinejad does not even refer to Israel by name, he instead uses the specific phrase “rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods” (regime occupying Jerusalem ). The full quote translated directly to English: “The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time”. A word by word translation: Imam (Khomeini) ghoft (said) een (this) rezhim-e (regime) ishghalgar-e (occupying) qods ( Jerusalem ) bayad (must) az safheh-ye ruzgar (from page of time) mahv shavad (vanish from). So this raises the question… what exactly did he want “wiped from the map”? The answer is: nothing. That’s because the word “map” was never used. The Persian word for map, “nagsheh”, is not contained anywhere in his original farsi quote, or, for that matter, anywhere in his entire speech. Nor was the western phrase “wipe out” ever said. Yet we are led to believe that Iran’s President threatened to “wipe Israel off the map”, despite never having uttered the words “map”, “wipe out” or even “Israel”. -
Vulture caught with a tracking device raises many questions
Saudi expert Mohammed Shobrak up close and personal with the vultures. He has devoted much of his life to studying. (AN photo)
By ROGER HARRISON | ARAB NEWS Published: Jan 7, 2011 23:24 Updated: Jan 7, 2011 23:24 JEDDAH: Earlier this week, a griffon vulture was captured in the Hail area and brought to the local authorities for examination. Attached to it were two rings (one metal and the other plastic), a small device with a 10cm antenna and a wing tag originating from Israel. The black wing tag (identity code X63) indicated that the bird had been previously caught, tagged and released. But what caught investigators’ attention was the small device that the vulture wore as a backpack with a harness. Investigators first thought that the blue device was most likely a tracking device of some sort. Its shape, with a stubby aerial, was unlike any they knew. Most devices are simple rectangular boxes designed to minimize chafing. The blue plastic Hail device, however, had two integral but protruding battery pods, which suggest that it was designed for extended use over long periods of time. Enquiries to the Israeli source of the ring tag received the reply that the device was a standard piece of microwave telemetry. The evidence in front of the authorities suggested that the device was nothing of the sort, increasing their interest. There are four types of telemetry commonly used for tracking wildlife: GPS data loggers, satellite transmitters, GSM units that work over telephone networks and VHF transmitters. The device is almost certainly not a GSM unit or a VHF transmitter. The former would need to be connected to the Saudi telephone system and the latter requires its trackers to be very close — a matter of a few hundred meters. It could, however, possibly be a GPS data logger. The device is now under investigation. There is no suggestion from the authorities that it is a spying device, or that there is any connection with Mossad. Those rumors developed from Internet chat rooms and were picked up by mainstream news carriers. An online newspaper carried the story saying that the bird was an eagle labeled X65; this story was strangely illustrated with a roost of vultures. The Jewish Chronicle Online in Friday’s edition reported it as R65. However, the Hail vulture was, according to our sources, labeled X63.The griffon vulture was removed to Thumama wildlife reserve outside Riyadh where, far from being arrested, it is being well cared for and, according to Dr. Mohammed Shobrak who has been in close contact with the vet tending the bird, will be released when it has recovered from the trauma of capture and multiple handling. Shobrak is a world expert on the lappet vulture and vultures in general, and has spent much of his life studying and tracking the birds. He is also the former director of the National Wildlife Research Center near Taif, working head of the Biology Department at Taif University and bird adviser to the Saudi Wildlife Commission.“The antenna was not configured for GSM or VHF transmission,” he said, adding that the device had no markings on it and that he felt this was unusual if it were a commercial wildlife tracker. Another characteristic that has raised his interest is the bird’s behavior. “It is quite tame, clearly used to being approached by humans. While it is in our care, it has been fed by hand,” he said. Animals have been used in covert and overt warfare for millennia. It is not impossible to imagine that, with the miniaturization of telemetry, a device for monitoring radar or microwave emissions could not be carried by a bird weighing 6 kg. Tracking devices on birds are usually a maximum of three percent of their body weight making the limit for the griffon about 180 grams, the weight of a medium size mobile phone or a device capable of monitoring and transmission tasks. The vulture, a common sight in the Middle East, would make an ideal stealth airborne platform as one carrying a device would be invisible in a group of a dozen or so riding thermals. The griffon vulture is a gregarious bird often roosting in flocks. It is not known for its amicability toward humans. Shobrak is deeply concerned by the find and the possible effect it will have on wildlife and vultures in the Kingdom in particular. “The publicity surrounding the bird and the device, I fear, will encourage some people to attempt catching birds of prey to try to find another device and achieve a moment of celebrity,” he said. “This would seriously interfere with long-term local and international research in a delicately balanced desert ecosystem.”____________________________________________________________________
THE MORALITY OF MOSSAD???? …a CIA type of Israeli Malfia/STERN GANG
Israel’s Shadowy War on Iran
Mossad Zeros in on Tehran’s Nuclear Program
By Dieter Bednarz and Ronen Bergman
DPAThe young man in the spotlight appeared earnest and friendly, wearing a blue sweater and a freshly ironed shirt, his hair carefully combed. He seemed to want to project an air of credibility.
Majid Jamali Fash was arrested in the killing. Last week, he confessed to his role in the attack on Iranian television and claimed that he was trained by Israeli agents. He sat in a brown leather swivel chair and steepled his fingertips in a manner often favored by politicians, before starting to speak. “My name is Majid Jamali Fash,” he introduced himself to viewers of Iran’s state-run television last Monday. “My first contact with the Israeli intelligence agency was in Istanbul three years ago. A man named Radfur approached me and suggested I visit the Israeli consulate.” These words opened the most spectacular confession ever shown on Iranian TV. Such self-incriminations, whether uttered by arrested members of the opposition or by foreign journalists, are far from a rare occurrence here. But Jamali’s statements are unique in that this is the first time an Iranian has publically admitted to committing murder in the country’s capital on orders from Iran’s archenemy, Israel. Jamali says he killed nuclear physicist Massoud Ali Mohammadi using a remote-controlled bomb on Jan. 12 last year, following precise planning and intensive training by the Israeli intelligence service Mossad. Some aspects of this confession may be mere propaganda. But it nonetheless indicates that those who may have blackmailed or fabricated Jamali’s statements felt compelled to admit that Iran’s enemies have the capability of setting off bombs right in the heart of the country. The alleged perpetrator’s dubious confession is simultaneously an admission on the part of the regime that a shadowy war over its nuclear program has begun. Existential Significance Strategists at international security policy think tanks are debating with increasing intensity when the time might come that Israel, with or without American help, will launch a military strike against Iran’s suspected nuclear weapon production facilities. But the real question is now a different one: Has political pressure from the international community combined with clandestine activities on the part of Israel and the US managed to delay such a strike?
Have Mossad’s attacks damaged the theocracy’s nuclear program to such a degree that it would now be impossible for Iran to build a nuclear bomb earlier than 2015? For Israel, the question of whether Iran possesses nuclear weapons is a matter of existential significance. Such a bomb would constitute a threat to the Jewish state — as well as to Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. One wonders if Israel’s shadow war should be celebrated for reducing the chances of such an Armageddon. Israel certainly has extensive experience in the world of covert war. Mossad, the country’s foreign intelligence agency, abides by a line from the Talmud: “If a man comes to kill you, rise early and kill him first.”
Meir Dagan, the much-honored former head of Mossad, retired late last year after eight years in office. Former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon named Dagan Israel’s highest commander in the covert war against Iran’s nuclear ambitions and Dagan concentrated his attention on precisely this mission. The effectiveness of his covert operations can be seen in the accidents and setbacks that have repeatedly stalled Iran’s nuclear program since then. Important scientists have disappeared without a trace, an unexplained fire broke out in a laboratory and an airplane belonging to the nuclear program crashed. In recent months, a computer worm called Stuxnet wreaked havoc on central control systems for the centrifuges at Iran’s uranium enrichment facility in Natanz.
The full scope of the damage from the worm is not yet known. A Spotlight on the Shadows Before leaving his post, Dagan spoke privately about his view of the situation. Unlike other Israelis, he doesn’t believe Iran will be able to build a nuclear bomb before 2015 — and it could even be later than that. Dagan’s message is clear — he opposes war with Iran, which he fears could escalate into all-out conflagration consuming the entire Middle East. He recommends continued covert operations instead, with which he implies Mossad could continue to delay Iran’s creation of a bomb indefinitely. Mossad’s attacks on Iranian nuclear scientists right in the center of Tehran has cast a spotlight on Israel’s shadowy war. Majid Jamali’s confession — assuming it isn’t fabricated — is a particular indication that the assassinations were the result of long-term planning and careful preparation.
Jamali is said to have received his first instructions at the Israeli consulate in Istanbul. “I talked to men there, who sat behind darkened windows. They questioned me and wanted me to obtain information on certain parts of Tehran for them,” he says. Jamali says he returned to Iran before delivering 30 handwritten pages full of details on his second visit to Turkey. “My contacts were very pleased with my work,” he adds. Then, he says, his real training began. After various meetings in Europe and Thailand, he allegedly received the first installment of his payment for the assassination — $30,000 (€22,500).
A further sum of $20,000 was to be paid after the attack. A Motorcycle at the Ready Jamali says he received the crucial parts of his training in Israel, where Israeli agents simulated the Iranian physicist’s house and street in a military camp near the highway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Mossad also provided a Honda 125 motorcycle, a small and easily maneuverable vehicle common in Tehran. The plan was for Jamali to later outfit a motorcycle of the same model with a bomb, to be detonated in front of Mohammadi’s house. According to his confession, Jamali also received shooting lessons and a makeup artist taught him how to disguise himself with clothes and makeup. In the last phase of training, they did three run-throughs of his mission. Back in Tehran, he says, other Mossad collaborators provided the necessary equipment.
The motorcycle was standing ready, as was the bomb, and he received gloves and motorcycle clothing in two cardboard boxes. His equipment also included two satellite phones — on one of those phones he received orders on the early morning of Jan. 12 to carry out the attack. Jamali placed the motorcycle, outfitted with the bomb, on the driver’s side of the physicist’s driveway and detonated it as Mohammadi left his home that morning. The force of the blast was so powerful that it caused heavy flagstones to fall from the front of a four-story apartment building across the way and all the windows to burst. Mohammadi’s car was completely destroyed and he died instantly.
Dagan’s secret assistants in Tehran appear to have carried out an operation that was similarly logistically intricate late last year, with a simultaneous double attack on two nuclear scientists, Majid Shahriari and Fereydoon Abbasi Davani. Like Mohammadi, both men belonged to Iran’s nuclear research elite. Officially, Shahriari worked as a professor of nuclear physics at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran. His specialty was neutron transport, a process that plays a central role in chain reactions within reactors, but also in the construction of nuclear bombs. Abbasi taught in the same department and was one of the country’s very few experts on isotope separation. On November 29, Shahriari and Abbasi were both making their way to the university, as they did nearly every day.
Shortly after 8 a.m., Shahriari was in his Peugeot sedan together with his wife, battling his way through the usual traffic on the Artesh Highway in the northern part of the city. He didn’t pay particular attention when a motorcycle drove up close to the driver’s side of his car — such chaos is simply part of life on Tehran’s overcrowded streets. By the time the motorcyclist attached something to Shahriari’s door and sped away, it was too late.
The bomb, affixed to the car with a magnet, exploded a few seconds later. Shahriari died instantly, but his wife survived the attack. His colleague Abbasi was more attentive and reacted more quickly, which saved his life. The professor, also traveling with his wife, had just driven away from his home when he noticed a motorcyclist squeeze in close to his vehicle and stick something to the driver’s side door. Abbasi, a long-time member of the Revolutionary Guards, braked immediately and launched himself out of the car, dragging his wife from the passenger seat and taking cover with her on the roadside, just fractions of a second before the device exploded. Explosive Koran Photographs of the scientists’ destroyed cars made headline news the next day, and not just in Iran. News of the attacks caused a commotion around the world, including in Israel. The same day, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to allow Mossad head Meir Dagan to retire. The mass-circulation Israeli daily Israel HaYom ran pictures of the attack in Tehran headlined with the question, “Dagan’s last strike?”
Targeted killings outside of its borders have been used as a military weapon more often by Israel than by any other country. In its 63 years of existence, Israel has acquired a high degree of craftsmanship when it comes to snuffing out its opponents, and was the first country to develop the technology for targeted killings from the air. In 1978 Israeli agents used poisoned toothpaste to kill Wadih Haddad, the leader of a faction of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
Seven years later they packed a copy of the Koran with explosives and sent it to Ali-Akbar Mohtashamipur, Iran’s ambassador to Syria. In 1997 they attempted, but ultimately failed, to assassinate Hamas leader Khaled Mashal with the neurotoxin botulin in the Jordanian capital, Amman. And exactly a year ago, they appeared unconcerned that surveillance cameras captured each stage of their murder of Hamas activist Mahmoud al-Mabhouh — allowing the world to examine the anatomy of that Dubai attack. Underground militias plotting to undermine the British Mandate in Palestine were using targeted assassination even before the 1948 foundation of the state of Israel, often enough against each another.
The Lehi organization, also known as the Stern Gang, was led by Yitzhak Shamir, who drew his inspiration from revolutionary communist movements and the Irish Republican Army (IRA). Russian-born Shamir thought nothing of killing dozens of Jews whom he suspected of collaborating with the British. He was also involved in the murders of a leading British minister and Folke Bernadotte, a Swedish UN diplomat.
Sword of Damocles Shamir, who was Israeli prime minister in the late 1980s and early 90s, is one of a host of leading Israeli politicians and civil servants who were personally involved in targeted killings on behalf of their country before they moved into politics. They include, among others, Defense Minister Ehud Barak — also a former Israeli prime minister — and Deputy Prime Minister Moshe Ya’alon. David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, always rejected assassination because he considered it a breach of the rules of war. Nevertheless he ordered his country’s first targeted killing, the 1956 assassination of Mustafa Hafi, the head of the Egyptian secret service, in the Gaza Strip.
Five years later the men who took part in this killing were called upon again to carry out Operation “Sword of Damocles” together with veterans of the Stern Gang, who now worked for Mossad. The aim of the mission was to murder or intimidate German scientists who had worked at the Nazis’ rocket facility in Peenemünde during World War II, and were now helping Egypt develop its own arsenal of missiles.
The operation was doomed, however, after a series of mishaps. Two Mossad agents, for instance, were arrested and taken to court in Switzerland for threatening the daughter of one scientist. Their arrest sparked outrage around the world and led to a diplomatic solution to the crisis: The German government offered the scientists new jobs if they agreed to cease working in Egypt and return home. In the 1960s and 1970s rules were laid out under which the Israeli government could order such killings. The targets of such assassination squads fell into three categories:
They were either terrorists, the political or military leaders of Israel’s enemies, or people who manufactured weapons of mass destruction or made them available to the country’s foes. Last Man on the List The most infamous of these Mossad-led killing sprees was the ruthless hunt for the people behind the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. The operation was more than a little revenge-driven, and proved the exception to the rule that killings should primarily serve to defend the state of Israel and its people. After a botched attempt by German authorities to free the hostages at Munich Airport, which led to the killing of all the abducted Israeli athletes, then-Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir swore that none of those responsible would escape Israel’s wrath.
Mossad then drew up a hit-list that included prominent members of the PLO and of the Black September terrorist organization — which carried out the attack — living in Europe. The last man on this list, a PLO official called Atef Bseiso, was shot dead in Paris in 1992, two decades after the tragedy in Munich and only a year before the signing of the Oslo Peace Accord between Israel and the Palestinians. Ali Hassan Salameh, the suspected mastermind of the massacre, was assassinated in Beirut in a Mossad operation in 1979.
Six years earlier, a waiter called Ahmed Bouchiki had been shot dead in the Norwegian town of Lillehammer after he was falsely identified as Salameh. Five Mossad agents were arrested and sent to prison for Bouchiki’s murder. PLO leader Yasser Arafat survived at least 10 Mossad attempts on his life, and countless others were called off at the last minute for various reasons. Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, who fired Scud missiles at Israel during the Gulf War of 1991, was another political leader on Mossad’s hit-list. His planned assassination in 1992 was aborted at the last minute after five Israeli soldiers died during a dry run of the operation. One murder that changed the course of Middle Eastern history was the assassination of Sheikh Abbas al-Mussawi, the secretary-general of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement.
Al-Mussawi was killed in a helicopter attack on his motorcade in February 1992. The original plan had been simply to abduct him to use as a bargaining chip for the release of Israeli prisoners. But Ehud Barak, Israeli chief of staff at the time, forced through a last-minute change, convincing Prime Minister Shamir to order the cleric’s assassination instead. It seems clear that nobody gave serious thought to the possible consequences of such a flagrant act. Although the operation was a tactical success, it proved a strategic catastrophe — and the reaction was not long in coming. A month after al-Mussawi’s murder, a bomb exploded at the Israeli embassy in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, killing 29 Israelis as well as local staff. Furthermore, al-Mussawi was replaced as Hezbollah leader by Hassan Nasrallah, who subsequently built the organization into a powerful and well-armed fighting force that controls southern Lebanon and has the power to hold all of northern Israel in check, as it demonstrated in the second Lebanon conflict of 2006.
Today, Nasrallah is the decisive figure in his nation’s political landscape. Only last week, the resignation of his Hezbollah ministers from the Lebanese cabinet plunged the entire country into disarray.
Worse still from Tel Aviv’s point of view, the people it assassinated could have become successful negotiators in future peace talks. Take Arafat’s erstwhile deputy, Khalil al-Wazer, better known by his nom-de-guerre, Abu Jihad. Many Israelis still think his execution in 1988 was a tragic mistake. Had Abu Jihad remained alive, he may well have been a more charismatic leader than Arafat or Mahmoud Abbas, the current Palestinian Authority president, and perhaps been in a position to end the simmering conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
Unintended Consequences Regardless of whether or not such executions are morally justifiable, Mossad murders have had unintended consequences. There’s no better evidence for this than the chain of events which began with the attempt to kill deputy Hamas leader Khalid Mashal in the Jordanian capital in 1997. Mossad agents attacked Mashal in Amman with a neurotoxin, but were caught red-handed by the Jordanian police.
As part of the agreement for the return of its agents, Israel had to both provide the Jordanian authorities with the antidote for the poison and release Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin from prison. Shortly after his liberation, Sheikh Yassin toured Arab countries collecting donations that he used to launch a wave of murderous assaults on Israel beginning in 2000 and continuing until he was killed by an Israeli helicopter gunship attack in 2004.
In the meantime, the failed attempt on Mashal gave him so much prestige that he took over the leadership of Hamas in exile soon after Yassin’s death, and was able to forge closer ties to Shiite Iran than the fundamentalist Sunni Yassin would have ever permitted. When Mossad targeted scientists who were assumed to have helped Israel’s enemies make weapons of mass destruction, the operations were often justified in public as countering an existential threat to Israel and its citizens. This line of reasoning often centered on the Holocaust and the persecution of Europe’s Jews.
When Israel found itself under the greatest threat, Ben-Gurion is said to have told staff that his greatest fear was that he may have brought the survivors of the European Jewry to Israel only to have them suffer a second Holocaust. Whenever the threat to the very existence of Israel is debated, there is always someone who equates Israel’s enemies with Hitler. In the 1950s and 1960s Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser was the bogeyman. In the 1970s it was Arafat. In the 1990s it was Saddam Hussein, and today it is Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has continued to insist that his country is only interested in nuclear power for civilian purposes. There have been several mysterious events that have delayed the Iranian nuclear program. Scientists have disappeared, an unexplained fire broke out in a laboratory and an airplane belonging to the nuclear program crashed. In late 2010, a computer worm infected central control systems for the centrifuges at Iran’s uranium enrichment facility in Natanz. This image is from a separate facility at Isfahan.Israel’s leaders have always worried about the possible physical annihilation of their country, and it is this perceived threat that has formed their justification for the policy of assassination, even though it constitutes a breach of international law and the sovereignty of other nations. Sowing Fear The number of such killings increased dramatically under Meir Dagan. Following his appointment as Mossad director in 2002, Dagan took advantage of this policy, primarily with respect to Iran. Dagan sees the regime in Tehran as representing two basic dangers that threaten the current generation of Israelis: terrorism and nuclear warfare.
Dagan, whom Prime Minister Ariel Sharon once said was particularly skilled at separating Arabs from their heads, has always been surprisingly moderate in his attitude toward military action by the Israeli army. He firmly believes that war should be a weapon of last resort. Dagan only recently spoke out against attacking Iran — in contrast to the more hawkish Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Barak.
Although Dagan thinks Iran poses a threat to Israel’s existence and that the Iranian regime “would use nuclear weapons against Israel should it ever obtain them”, he is convinced that concerted action can, at the very least, lead to a significant delay in Iran’s nuclear program, if not a scrapping of the project altogether.
This would require a combination of international diplomatic pressure, tough economic sanctions, the prevention of the sale of nuclear technology and hardware, support for non-Shiite opposition forces in Iran — and, last but not least, secret Mossad operations.
Equipment confiscated from those allegedly behind the assassination of Massoud Ali Mohammadi. A similar attack on a second nuclear scientist was unsuccessful. He also presents evidence to back his theory up: He says the death of Iranian nuclear scientists has slowed the development of the nuclear program and sowed fear among their colleagues, many of whom subsequently failed to turn up for work on the following days.
Meir Dagan, who retired as head of Israel’s secret service agency, the Mossad, late last year, has launched several successful operations against scientists working on Iran’s nuclear program. His agency was also likely behind the Stuxnet computer worm, which is alleged to have destroyed dozens of centrifuges in Iran, setting back their nuclear program significantly. Here, Dagan is pictured with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It’s still anyone’s guess whether Prime Minister Netanyahu will be swayed by the optimistic assessment of his former intelligence chief that there’s still plenty of time to continue mounting secret operations against Tehran. And it could well be that Netanyahu still prefers a far more dangerous solution to the Iranian problem. Translated from the German by Jan Liebelt and Ella Ornstein
Mossad’s Miracle Weapon
Stuxnet Virus Opens New Era of Cyber War
By Holger Stark
The complex on a hill near an interchange on the highway from Tel Aviv to Haifa is known in Israel simply as “The Hill.” The site, as big as several soccer fields, is sealed off from the outside world with high walls and barbed wire — a modern fortress that symbolizes Israel’s fight for survival in the Middle East. As the headquarters of Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, the Mossad, this fortress is strictly off-limits to politicians and journalists alike. Ordinarily, it is the Mossad that makes house calls, and not the other way around. The agency’s strict no-visitors policy was temporarily relaxed on a Thursday in early January, when a minibus with darkened windows pulled into a parking lot in front of a nearby movie theater. The journalists inside were asked to hand over their mobile phones and audio recorders.
Meïr Dagan, the powerful head of the Mossad, had invited them to the facility. It was his last day in a position he had held for seven years. On that January day, the journalists were there to document his legacy: the Mossad’s fightagainst the Iranian nuclear program. He spoke passionately about the risks of a possible military strike against Iran, saying that he believed that such an attack would lead to a conflagration in the region that would include a war with Hezbollah and Hamas, and possibly with Syria. And anyone who believed that a military strike could stop Tehran’s nuclear program was wrong, said Dagan.
It could slow down the program, he added, but only temporarily. For this reason, the outgoing Mossad chief was against bombs — but in favor of anything that could set back the Iranian nuclear program without starting a conventional war. Delay was the new magic word. And to that end, the Mossad head had created a miracle weapon that everyone in the room on that January day knew about, but which Dagan did not mention by name: Stuxnet. Stuxnet, a computer virus that can infiltrate highly secure computers not connected to the Internet, a feat previously believed to be virtually impossible, entered the global political arena more than a year ago, in June 2010. The virus had attacked computers at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, where scientists are enriching uranium, and manipulated the centrifuges to make them self-destruct. The attack penetrated into the heart of the Iranian nuclear program. Stuxnet is the world’s first cyber-weapon of geopolitical significance.
Frank Rieger of the legendary German hacker organization Chaos Computer Club calls it “a digital bunker buster.” The virus represents a fundamentally new addition to the arsenal of modern warfare. It enables a military attack using a computer program tailored to a specific target. One year later, there is not an Internet security firm or government of a major country that is not addressing Stuxnet and its consequences, as well as taking action as a result. To learn more about Stuxnet and understand what is behind the virus, SPIEGEL traveled to Israel — the country where the cyber-weapon was invented.
Following the Trail
The Israeli branch of the US computer security firm Symantec is housed in a nondescript modern complex in Tel Aviv, a 15-minute drive from Ben Gurion International Airport. Sam Angel, the head of Symantec Israel, meets visitors in the underground garage and takes them to the conference room on the fourth floor. At the beginning of his PowerPoint presentation, Angel says: “Stuxnet is the most sophisticated attack we have ever seen.
This sort of an attack, on a mature, isolated industrial system is completely unusual.” He projects a map onto the wall, showing the countries where such an attack has taken place: Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia and Belarus, where a man named Sergey Ulasen discovered Stuxnet. Ulasen, who works in the research and development department at the VirusBlokAda security firm in Minsk, received what seemed to be a relatively mundane email on June 17, 2010. An Iranian firm was complaining that its computers were behaving strangely, shutting themselves down and then rebooting. Ulasen and a colleague spent a week examining the machines.
Then they found Stuxnet. VirusBlokAda notified other companies in the industry, including Symantec. When the engineers at Symantec got to work, they came across two computers that had directed the attacks. One of the servers was in Malaysia and the other was in Denmark, and they were reachable through the addresses http://www.todaysfutbol.com and http://www.mypremierfutbol.com.
They had been registered, under a false name and with a forged credit card, through one of the world’s largest Internet registration companies, a firm based in the US state of Arizona. Symantec rerouted the incoming and outgoing communication at the two servers to its computer center in Dublin, which enabled it to monitor the activity of the virus. Whoever had launched Stuxnet had gotten away, but at least Symantec could follow the trail they had left behind. The rerouting of communication made it possible to obtain an overview of the countries in which the virus was active.
According to that analysis, Stuxnet had infected about 100,000 computers worldwide, including more than 60,000 in Iran, more than 10,000 in Indonesia and more than 5,000 in India. The inventors programmed Stuxnet so that the virus, as a first step, tells the two command-and-control servers if the infected computer is running Step 7, an industrial software program developed by the German engineering company Siemens. Step 7 is used to run the centrifuges at Iran’s Natanz facility. The plant near Natanz, located in the desert 250 kilometers (156 miles) south of Tehran, is protected with military-level security.
The aluminum centrifuges, which are housed in bunkers, are 1.8 meters (5 foot 10 inches) tall and 10 centimeters (four inches) in diameter. Their purpose is to gradually increase the proportion of uranium-235, the fissile isotope of uranium. There is a rotor inside the centrifuges that rotates at a speed of 1,000 times per second. In the process, uranium hexafluoride gas is centrifuged, so that uranium-235 accumulates in the center. The process is controlled by a Siemens system that runs on the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Graphic: How Stuxnet sabotaged Iran’s nuclear program
The ruse that makes the attack possible is as simple as it is ingenious. Stuxnet takes advantage of a security hole in Windows that makes it possible to manipulate the system. As a result of this programming error, the virus can be introduced into the system through a USB flash drive, for example. As soon as the drive is connected to a computer in the system, the installation begins unnoticed. Stuxnet initially searches for anti-virus programs. The code is designed to circumvent them or, if this is not possible, to de-install itself. For a long time, one of the priorities was to leave no traces. In a second step, Stuxnet lodges itself into the part of the operating system that manages USB flash drives, where it establishes a checksum, the exact purpose of which is unclear.
The infection stops when this sum reaches the value 19790509. Symantec speculates that this is some sort of code. When read backward, the number could represent May 9, 1979, the day Habib Elghanian, a Jewish businessman, was executed in Tehran. Is this a coincidence? A provocation? Or a deliberately placed red herring? It is still unclear how exactly the Israelis were able to get the virus into Natanz. In the jargon of computer experts, previously unknown security gaps like the hole in the Windows operating system are called zero-day exploits. Searching for these vulnerabilities is a combination of hacker challenge and business model. Knowledge is valuable, and there is a black market in which a previously unknown vulnerability can be worth $100,000 (€70,000) or more. Stuxnet exploits no fewer than four of these digital jewels. ‘A Blue-and-White Operation’ Symantec manager Sam Angel believes that it is impossible to write a code like Stuxnet without having intimate knowledge of the Siemens system. “There is no black market for exploits involving Siemens software,” he says.
“It’s not used widely enough.” How, then, did the Mossad acquire the information about the technology in use at Natanz? It has been openly speculated that the Americans may have helped the Mossad. There is a US government research institution in Idaho where scientists study the Siemens control technology used in Iran; the basic research for Stuxnet could have taken place there. After that, the virus could have been tested at Israel’s nuclear research center near Dimona in the Negev Desert. Israeli sources familiar with the background to the attack insist, however, that Stuxnet was a “blue-and-white operation,” a reference to Israel’s national colors — in other words, a purely Israeli operation.
They believe that a secret elite unit of the military intelligence agency programmed a portion of the code, leaving the Mossad to do the rest. The Mossad was also apparently responsible for smuggling the virus into Natanz. The same sources claim that the Mossad tried to buy a cascade of centrifuges on the black market, without success. In the end, an Israeli arms manufacturer, with the help of foreign intelligence agencies, supposedly managed to build a model of Natanz where Stuxnet was tested. The operation was ready to begin in the summer of 2009. The attackers unleashed Stuxnet at 4:31 p.m. on June 22, 2009. The attack targeted five Iranian organizations and was launched in three waves. After the first wave, a second strike took place in March 2010, dealing a heavy blow to the Iranians. The third wave followed in April. According to Symantec, the targets were not directly related to Iran’s nuclear program, but some of the target organizations were on United Nations sanctions lists. Some 12,000 computers were infected in the five organizations alone. Stuxnet is programmed to delete itself from the USB flash drive after the third infection, presumably to prevent it from spreading explosively, which would have been noticed immediately.
The goal of the cyber-weapon is to sabotage its targets in a sustainable, rather than spectacular, manner. Another trick, which gives the virus the semblance of legality, shows how complex the design is. It involves digital certificates, which are issued on the Internet by companies that test the activity of a server or a program and certify that it is not malicious. If a program can show that it has such a certificate, then it is allowed access to a system. The Taiwanese firms Realtek Semiconductor and JMicron Technology are among the firms that issue such certificates. In January 2010, a version of Stuxnet turned up that had been signed with a digital certificate from Realtek. This was followed, in July 2010, by a version signed with a JMicron certificate. Both certificates had been stolen. This theft alone is an operation that requires either a physical burglary at the headquarters of both companies, or the kind of hacker attack that very few programmers worldwide are capable of performing, because these certificates are additionally secured and encoded. Only a State Could Produce Stuxnet An analysis by a European intelligence agency classified as “secret,” which SPIEGEL has seen, states that it would have taken a programmer at least three years to develop Stuxnet, at a cost in the double-digit millions.
Symantec, for its part, estimates that the tests in the model facility alone would have occupied five to 10 programmers for half a year. According to the intelligence analysis, “non-governmental actors” can be “virtually ruled out” as the inventors of Stuxnet. Members of Germany’s Federal Security Council, a government committee for defense issues whose meetings are secret, felt the same way when the council met in Berlin on Nov. 25, 2010. Stuxnet shows what can happen when potent attackers are at work, said then Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière, who is now German defense minister. Anyone who is willing to invest that much money and resources, Maizière added, knows what he is doing. The council members agreed that a sovereign state had to be behind the virus. De Maizière’s staff noted that 15 vulnerabilities are found in standard computer programs every day, and that tens of thousands of websites are infected worldwide on a daily basis. At the end of the meeting, the council decided to establish a national cyber defense center.“The experiences with the Stuxnet virus show that even key areas of industrial infrastructure are no longer safe against targeted IT attacks,” a government cabinet paper later stated.
The virus has fundamentally changed the way we look at digital attacks. The US government recently issued a new cyber war doctrine that defines a cyber-attack as a conventional act of war. The Stuxnet code, which is now accessible to the public, could inspire copycats, Roberta Stempfley of the US Department of Homeland Security warned last week. Last year the British government adopted a new security strategy, for which it approved funding of 650 million pounds (€565 million or $1,070 million). The cyber world will become “more important in the conflict between nations,” Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor said in a speech in Jerusalem in February. “It is a new battleground, if you like, not with guns but with something else.”
The Mossad views Stuxnet as a great success, comparable to the cracking of Germany’s Enigma cipher machine by the Poles and Britons in World War II. The Israeli military isn’t as euphoric. It argues that the fact that Stuxnet was discovered was a high price to pay, despite the setback it dealt to Iran’s mullah-led regime. And it was a painful setback indeed. An Iranian IR-1 centrifuge normally spins at 1,064 hertz, or cycles per second. When the rotors began going haywire, they increased their frequency to 1,410 hertz for 15 minutes and then returned to their normal frequency. The virus took over control again 27 days later, but this time it slowed down the rotors to a frequency of a few hundred hertz for a full 50 minutes.
The resulting excessive centrifugal force caused the aluminum tubes to expand, increasing the risk of parts coming into contact with one another and thereby destroying the centrifuges. Six cascades containing 164 centrifuges each were reportedly destroyed in this manner. Authorities on the Iranian nuclear program, like David Albright of the Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS), believe that Stuxnet destroyed about 1,000 centrifuges. Iran has admitted that its nuclear program was set back. According to Gholamreza Jalali, the head of Iran’s civil defense organization, the program suffered “potentially major damage.” Former Mossad chief Dagan achieved his goal of sabotaging the nuclear program without triggering a new war in the Middle East.
But Iran still has 8,000 other centrifuges, and the more modern, second-generation IR-2 centrifuges, which are equipped with carbon fiber rotors, can operate smoothly even at 1,400 hertz. They are not affected by the existing version of the sabotage software. The Mossad could be in need of a new virus soon. Using it would constitute the next round in a clandestine cyber war. ‘People Had Never Seen Anything Like Stuxnet Before’ Two young Israelis who work indirectly for the government are sitting in one of Tel Aviv’s modern cafés. The men run a company that handles jobs for the Mossad and Shin Bet, the domestic intelligence agency. They smile and say that digital attack, not defense, is their discipline. They are part of a global hacker elite. According to rumors circulating in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, the men did some of the groundwork for the Mossad in the development of Stuxnet. “People had never seen anything like Stuxnet before, except in movies,” says one of the hackers. “Now they can see that it’s real.” His voice is filled with pride when he says: “In the small community of attackers, none of this was really new.” Almost all of the vulnerabilities had already been used in a past attack, the hacker says, but they had never been used at the same time. He explains that the real challenge in staging an attack with a virus like Stuxnet is to penetrate into a system that is not connected to the Internet. What are the consequences of Stuxnet? The two men are silent for a moment; they see things from the attacker’s perspective. “The discovery of Stuxnet was a serious blow to us,” one of them says. “We find it particularly upsetting, because a successful method was disclosed.” The inventors of Stuxnet apparently had many more plans for their product. Symantec has since discovered another version of the Stuxnet virus, which contains even more complex code and is designed to target modern Siemens control technology, but which had not been activated yet. Stuxnet, say the people at Symantec, “is the type of threat we hope to never see again.” That wish is unlikely to come true.

… across the pond, Britain and Israel seem to be gearing up for all-out war with Iran. For the first time since 2008, Israel tested the Jericho 3, an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear warhead long distances on Wednesday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been reportedly trying to push what little opposition he has within his cabinet into getting behind an attack on Iran with the help of Defense Minister Ehud Barak. In response to the Jericho 3 test, which was a clear instance of antagonizing Iran at an all-too-inopportune time, Barak said it was an “impressive technological achievement”.
In another suspiciously timed event, Israel released the details of an air force exercise done in concert with Italy, using a NATO base, over the Mediterranean Sea which simulated a long-distance strike, much like what would be utilized against Iran.
American President Barack Obama also said that he had spoken with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and they both had come to the conclusion “that international pressure must be maintained on Iran” according to Israeli news agency Haaretz. Some American politicians are not being as coy as others, sticking to the typical diplomatic language in dealing with Iran.
Rick Perry, a former Bilderberg Group attendee, Republican Presidential hopeful and current Governor of Texas, has openly said he would support attacks on Iran. “Obviously, we are going to support Israel. And I’ve said that we will support Israel in every way that we can, whether it’s diplomatic, whether it’s economic sanctions, whether it’s overt or covert operations, up to and including military action,” Perry said in an interview on CNN.
This kind of blind support for Israel is what plagues American politics today. Even when such a move could result in the death of Americans and/or a significant negative economic impact, politicians like Perry will happily back Israel to the detriment of our own nation. The support within Israel for a strike on Iran is quite considerable as well American President Barack Obama also said that he had spoken with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and they both had come to the conclusion “that international pressure must be maintained on Iran” according to Israeli news agency Haaretz. the support for an attack on Iran amongst the Israeli cabinet does not seem so divided.
Haaretz reports that Israel’s Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, previously did not support an attack on Iran but was recently persuaded by Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Barak to get behind the move. The Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister, Moshe Ya’alon, reportedly said that he would prefer an American military strike against Iran to an Israeli one. Why would we have any interest in attacking Iran?
In reality, Iran is not a threat to the United States but the Israel Lobby likely easily sway Washington into carrying out the strike for Israel, putting American lives and money on the line instead of their own. Similarly, Dan Meridor, the Israeli Intelligence and Atomic Energy Minister said that he supports an American offensive against Iran. The London Guardian has reported that Britain is developing military plans for an attack on Iran in preparation for the IAEA report which has been characterized as “a game changer”.
“The MoD [Ministry of Defense] says there are no hard and fast blueprints for conflict but insiders concede that preparations there and at the Foreign Office have been underway for some time”, according to The Guardian. This dovetails with the reports of Obama planning to increase the American presence in the Persian Gulf, as previously reported. … in Iran, the reaction has been one of marked antagonism with the Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi saying that Iran is “ready for war” with Israel. Salehi told the Turkish news outlet Hürriyet Daily, “We have been hearing threats from Israel for eight years. Our nation is a united nation…such threats are not new to us”. Salehi also said that any attack would bring retaliation and Iranian General Hassan Firouzabadi said that Israel and the U.S. would be harshly punished for an attack in Iran.
“We would make them regret such a mistake and would severely punish them,” Firouzabadi said, adding, “In case of an attack by the Zionist regime, the United States would also be hit”. The head of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, will reportedly detail the proof of U.S.-led terrorist plots against Iran at a ceremony marking the anniversary of the 1979 U.S. Embassy hostage crisis in Tehran. This evidence is allegedly so damning that it could bring the U.S. government down according to an Iranian lawmaker and Deputy Chairman of the Majilis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Hossein Ebrahimi.
“Once Tehran publicizes the evidence in its possession on the US being a terrorist [state] and [Washington’s] massacres, the American nation would certainly unite to topple their [ruling] regime”, Ebrahimi reportedly said. Furthermore, in late September the head of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, threatened to send military ships off the Atlantic Coast of the United States.

By Tony CartalucciAs the rhetoric for war with Iran begins to mount, first with the staged DEA-Saudi bomb plot, and now with an upcoming IAEA report supposedly “exposing” Iran’s nuclear arms ambitions, it is important to re-read through the signed confessions by the corporate-fascist interests behind this drive for war where it is admitted that:
All of this is shockingly spelled out in extreme detail within the pages of the corporate-financier funded Brooking Institution report, “Which Path to Perisa?” It is essential that every American, European, and Israeli read just how malicious, callus and eager the globalist elite are to trigger a catastrophic war with the Islamic Republic for the sole purpose of protecting Wall Street and London’s hegemony throughout the Middle East. “Which Path to Persia?” Brookings Institution 2009 .pdf Below are links to efforts to cover in detail the key aspects of this increasing war mongering, the key players behind it, including the corporations funding this agenda, as well as irrefutable evidence that illustrates these designs, laid out in 2009 have already begun to unfold. 1. Withdrawal of US Troops From Iraq Highly Suspect Think-tank designs for Iran leave only Israeli attack & coaxed provocation for total war on table. Upon reading this information, one will realize with horror how patiently persistent the corporate-financier interests on Wall Street and London have pursued this campaign towards war with Iran, and how absolutely deceitful they are willing to be in order to keep it moving forward. It is absolutely imperative that people understand not only just how contrived the treat of Iran is, but that those peddling the lies of such a threat have, behind closed doors, admitted as much. Image: Just some of the corporate-sponsors behind the unelected, warmongering “think-tank” Brookings Institution which produced the treasonous “Which Path to Persia?” report. Please also take particular note of the corporations funding this act of Hitlerian aggression against a nation of 70 million at the potential loss of tens of thousands of American and Israeli (and other proxy soldiers’) lives, not to mention the incalculable cost of the war to an already crippled American tax payer. Also note that these same corporations will not be losing their sons and daughters nor a single penny in the war effort, in fact, many of them stand to gain untold of fortunes and power – the very reason they are pursuing such a course of action. Now would be a good time to contact your representatives, boycott the above mentioned corporations, and begin undermining a system that is parasitically bleeding this planet to death both financially and literally in pursuit of global corporate-fascist hegemony. And remember, it will not end in Iran, the attack and destruction of Iranian sovereignty is just the beginning. |

Key ally Russia gave the Islamic Republic a major boost, rejecting tighter sanctions President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed Wednesday that Iran won't retreat “one iota” from its nuclear program, denying claims that it seeks atomic weapons. Key ally Russia gave the Islamic Republic a major boost, rejecting tighter sanctions . In his first reaction to the report, Mr. Ahmadinejad strongly criticized the agency — a day after it claimed Tehran was on the brink of developing a nuclear weapon — saying the IAEA is discrediting itself by siding with “absurd” U.S. accusations. The comments, broadcast live on state TV, were a sharp rebuke to Western warnings. But Russia, which has veto-wielding power on the UN Security Council, said new sanctions would be unacceptable. “Any additional sanctions against Iran would be perceived by the international community as an instrument for regime change in Tehran,” deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told the Interfax news agency, adding that Russia “does not intend to consider such proposals.” Mr. Gatilov said Russia believes that dialogue with Iran is the only way forward. Meanwhile, Iran's other chief ally, China, issued cautious statements calling for diplomacy and dialogue. “This nation won't retreat one iota from the path it is going,” Mr. Ahmadinejad told thousands of people in Shahr-e-Kord in central Iran. “Why are you ruining the prestige of the (UN nuclear) agency for absurd U.S. claims?” A conservative Iranian lawmaker later threatened that the parliament could force the government to pull out of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, or NPT, as a response to the report by IAEA chief Yukiya Amano. “In the first stage, we will pull out of NPT if Amano shows incompetence and asks for Obama's permission for every report,” conservative lawmaker Mahmoud Ahmadi Bighash told state TV Wednesday. Mr. Ahmadinejad repeated Iran's claims that it doesn't make sense to build nuclear weapons in a world already awash with atomic arms. “The Iranian nation is wise. It won't build two bombs against 20,000 (nuclear) bombs you have,” he said in comments apparently directed at the West and others. “But it builds something you can't respond to: Ethics, decency, monotheism and justice.” ...evidence of a large metal chamber at a military site for "nuclear-related explosives testing". Iran has dismissed that, saying they were merely metal toilet stalls. ran's official IRNA news agency also quoted Mr. Bighash as saying the report shows that IAEA “has no powers and moves in the direction” of the U.S. and allies. Another parliament member, Parviz Sorouri, accused Mr. Amano of tarnishing the agency. “The report was drawn up by Americans and read by Amano,” the semiofficial ISNA news agency quoted him as saying. Ahmadinejad rejects U.S. allegations on nuclear weapons Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his country does not need nuclear weapons to "cut the hands" of the United States, and can achieve their goals by peaceful means, thus repudiating claims about its nuclear program. "Our nation can achieve success through reflection, its rich culture and prudence," Ahmadinejad said in criticizing Washington and its allies, who use an assembly of unfounded allegations against the Islamic Republic. The president spoke before the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reports accusing Tehran of having planned nuclear weapons, something the country's government vehemently denies. "The U.S. administration looks for prosperity by driving other countries to poverty, plundering their riches," Ahmadinejad accused. The Persian President warned that Washington "will certainly regret any firm response" to the country if the United States and Israel go ahead further with any type of military action against Tehran, as has been announced recently in the media. Ahmadinejad also took the occasion to rebuke the IAEA director general, Japanese Yukiya Amano, for being "a puppet" of the White House, challenging him to bring accurate and reliable information about the nuclear activities of Iran, a signatory to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. The report was classified by the government of the Asian country as "ridiculous and contrived," considering it more as a "repetition of unfounded accusations by the United States and the Zionists." The president also affirmed that the administration of Barack Obama "arrogantly accuses Iran of producing nuclear bombs while it has more than five thousand atomic products, which demonstrates the lack of U.S. commitment to nuclear disarmament," he noted. "The United States this year earmarked about $81 billion to modernize its nuclear weapons, while the annual budget for nuclear research in Iran is 250 million dollars," said Ahmadinejad. The Iranian Parliamentary Commission for National Security and Foreign Policy also criticized the threat of military attack by the United States and Israel and speculation about Iran's nuclear program. Ed. According to reliable sources quoted in Russia, the so-called nuclear weapons scientist cited as helping Iran's weapons program is NOT a nuclear weapons scientist at all. The Ukrainian, Vyacheslav Danilenko, has NEVER worked on nuclear weapons, but is one of the top specialists in the world in the production of nanodiamonds. Danilenko worked in an Institute that specialized in the synthesis of diamonds. Iran has a program to develop its nanotechnology sector, with one major focus being nanodiamonds. This is the latest to come out exposing the utter fabrication that the IAEA report is. If they talk about this report a thousand times, are people going to hear all of the evidence pointing to all the holes in this obvious lie or will they believe it because it has been beaten to death by the western corporate media? So there you go, the stinking warmonger genocidal demons in the west are caught lying again and guess who supplied the false information? That's right, none other than Israel. “Impose a resolution, sanctions, using all the tools against us, and want to come and negotiate?” Said Ahmadinejad in an interview with TV station “is Jami mosque”, on the occasion of the latest sanctions by the United States, Britain and Canada on Monday introduced the Iran . The Iranian president said that such actions undermine efforts P5 +1 group – composed of five permanent members of UN Security Council, United States, Great Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany – to renew talks with Iran. “They’re always themselves, create restrictions. We have always said that we are ready for talks and cooperation. The talks are better than confrontation, but they seem lost and keep them coming back to confrontation,” said Ahmadinejad, and transferred the AFP. In an interview with the Iranian president said that Iran has the “same block” with Russia and China on the international scene, although each country has its own national interests. “China and Russia have a position closer to us when it comes to international issues, but the U.S. and its allies. We are cooperating with Russia and China, but we can not expect them to sacrifice their national interests – as they can not expect us, “said Ahmadinejad.
Opposition to China and Russia the latest sanctions to prevent these measures come before the UN Security Council, led by the French agency. EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, who represents a group of P5 +1, last week called on Iran to return to the talks, which should alleviate the concerns of the West that Tehran’s nuclear program can be iskorišhcen to produce atomic bombs. Iran, which denies any military dimension to its nuclear activities [strictly for medicine, their space program and electricity], said he was ready to return to negotiations, but insisted that they be included in other topics besides the nuclear issue.

Tehran – Tehran’s answer to the violation of Iranian airspace, carried out by U.S. unmanned aircraft will be limited to the borders of that country, told Iranian state television, a military source.
The Iranian military announced today that the U.S. shot down a pilotless reconnaissance aircraft RK170 which, he claims, to the east of the country without permission entered the Iranian airspace. This aircraft was manufactured by the company “Lockheed Martin” and reportedly was used for observation of the complex of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan during an operation in which he had been killed by the agencies. Iran is dedicated, for their part, most of its military strategy reconnaissance drone production three years ago says it has produced a UAV with a range of 1,000 kilometers, enough to reach Israel.Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad “baptized” in 2010. first domestic unmanned aircraft and called it “the ambassador of death” for Iran’s enemies. The American aircraft was shot down at a time when Tehran in tense relations with Washington and its Western allies because of a dispute over Iran’s nuclear program. The West believes Iran is trying to, under cover of a civilian nuclear program, producing an atomic bomb, while Tehran says the program is intended exclusively for peaceful purposes. U.S. and EU countries are considering punitive measures against Iran. ______________ Iran shoots down US dronehttp://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/dec/04/iran-shoots-down-us-drone Iranian military official quoted as warning of crushing response after unmanned spy plane is shot down Iran’s military said it had shot down the US drone near the country’s eastern border. Iran‘s armed forces have shot down an unmanned US spy plane that violated Iranian airspace along its eastern border. An unidentified military official quoted by the official Irna news agency on Sunday warned of a crushing response to any violations of Iranian airspace by US drone aircraft. “An advanced RQ170 unmanned American spy plane was shot down by Iran’s armed forces. It suffered minor damage and is now in possession of Iran’s armed forces,” Irna quoted the official as saying. No further details were given. Later a spokesman for Nato’s International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan said a surveillance drone flying over western Afghanistan had gone out of control late last week and may be the one Iran said it had shot down over its own airspace. “The UAV to which the Iranians are referring may be a US unarmed reconnaissance aircraft that had been flying a mission over western Afghanistan late last week. The operators of the UAV lost control of the aircraft and had been working to determine its status,” an ISAF statement said.
Iran is locked in a dispute with the US and its allies over Tehran’s alleged nuclear programme, which the west believes is aimed at developing nuclear weapons. Iran denies the accusations, saying the programme is designed to generate electricity and produce isotopes for medical use. Tehran said in January it had shot down two other unmanned spy planes over its airspace which were operated by the US. Iran itself has focused part of its military strategy on producing drones, both for reconnaissance and offensive purposes. It announced three years ago that it had built an unmanned aircraft with a range of more than 600 miles, far enough to reach Israel.
The Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, unveiled Iran’s first domestically built unmanned bomber in August 2010, calling it an “ambassador of death” to Iran’s enemies.

“The primary task of the Corps will be to extend joint IDF (Israeli army) operations into the strategic depth,” the Israeli military said on Thursday. The new command, dubbed Depth Corps, will be headed by Major General Shai Avital and will focus on Israel’s long-distance operations. The integration of special operations forces into the Depth Corps, known as Iran Special Operations Command within the Israeli military, means they will also play a role in “commando” operations involving sabotage and assassinations in the Islamic Republic. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak have occasionally called for a military strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities. However, several Israeli security and military figures have warned that an attack on Iran over its nuclear activities would lead to a regional war. Former director of Mossad spy agency Meir Dagan said in a television interview on November 29 that Iran, and the Hezbollah and Hamas resistance movements will respond with massive rocket attacks on Israel if the Tel Aviv regime attacks Iranian atomic sites. He noted that Syria would also join Iran in that scenario. Dagan added that such a war would take a heavy toll in terms of lost lives and would paralyze life in Israel.
Earlier in May, Dagan publicly argued against an airstrike against Iran’s nuclear facilities. He described the possibility of a future Israeli airstrike on Iran as “the stupidest thing he has ever heard.” The United States and Israel have repeatedly threatened Tehran with the “option” of a military strike, based on the allegation that Iran’s nuclear work may consist of a covert military agenda. Iran has refuted the allegations, saying that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. While Israel refuses to allow inspections of its nuclear facilities or to join the NPT based on its policy of nuclear ambiguity, Iran has been subjected to snap IAEA inspections due to its policy of nuclear transparency. Israel recently test fired a new long-range missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads. The test was carried out at the Palmahim air base in central Israel. This three-stage Jericho-3 missile, which is capable of delivering a 750-kilo warhead to a distance, is estimated to have a range of up to 10,000 kilometers. Paradoxically, Israel’s new nuke-capable missile, which can target many parts of the globe, is not considered a threat in the eyes of the West. MP/MA

RIO – Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday comes to Latin America for another tour of Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba and Ecuador.Increasingly isolated because of sanctions imposed by Western powers to the Iranian oil industry, the trustee should request support for Latin American leaders who, like him, are also openly against U.S. policy, as is the case of Hugo Chavez. Apprehensive because of Tehran’s nuclear program, U.S. and European countries have adopted a series of embargoes against the Iranian government in order to pressure him to drop the atomic energy. Washington described the meeting with Ahmadinejad rival the United States as a demonstration that Iran is “desperate to have friends.” – We are making it absolutely clear to countries around the world that is not the time to forge closer ties, or security or economic, with Iran – said American spokeswoman Victoria Nuland. Expel U.S. Consul General of Venezuela in Miami Ahmadinejad’s first stop will be in Venezuela, a country traditionally critical of the United States. On Sunday, by the way, the U.S. State Department expelled the Venezuelan Consul General in Miami, Livia Acosta Nogueira. The diplomat has until Tuesday to leave the U.S., which gave no details of the decision. The way the Iranian representative was criticized by the Venezuelan opposition, but Chavez said the president will be “welcome”. The two countries nurture a close relationship. Tehran has even build factories in Venezuela. The Iranian president has, officially, for Latin America to attend the inauguration ceremony for the re-elected president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega. This time, Ahmadinejad did not come to Brazil.
Iran announced it would start enriching uranium in bunker
In the “near future”, the Iran began enriching uranium inside a mountain , a local official said. Measure that should further increase the tension between Tehran and Western powers, which suspect Tehran is trying to build nuclear weapons. The decision by the Islamic Republic to conduct sensitive nuclear activities in an underground site will give more protection against a possible enemy attack. For months, Iran says it is preparing to take their work in refining high-level uranium enrichment plant at Natanz to Fordow, a facility near Qom, the holy city for Shiite Muslims in central Iran The United States and its allies say Iran is trying to build bombs, but Tehran insists its nuclear program is solely for power generation and has medical purposes.

this is a man who tenaciously holds on to a vision of justice, despite the misrepresentation and distortion which western propagandists use to distract the world from his indictment of their hypocrisy, and their crimes against humanity”In my opinion, we have several important agendas in front of us. The Secretary General and the UN General Assembly can take the lead by undertaking necessary measures for the fulfillment of our shared goals on the basis of:1 – Restructuring the United Nations in order to transform this world body to an efficient and fully democratic organization, capable of playing an impartial, equitable, and effective role in the international relations; reforming the structure of the Security Council, specially by abolishing the discriminatory privilege of veto right; restoration of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people by organizing a referendum and free elections in Palestine in order to prepare a conducive ground for all Palestinian populations, including Muslims, Christians and Jews to live together in peace and harmony; putting an end to all types of interferences in the affairs of Iraq, Afghanistan, Middle East, and in all countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe …2- Reforming the current economic structures and setting up a new international economic order based on human and moral values and obligations. A new course is needed that would help promote justice and progress worldwide by flourishing the potentials and talents of all nations thus bringing well-being for all and for future generations;3- Reforming the international political relations based on the promotion of lasting peace and friendship, eradication of arms race and elimination of all nuclear, chemical and biological weapons;4- Reforming cultural structures , respect for diverse customs and traditions of all nations, fostering moral values and spirituality aimed at institution of family as the backbone of all human societies;5- Worldwide efforts to protect the environment and full observance of the international agreements and arrangements to prevent the annihilation of nature’s non-renewable resources.”Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President, Islamic Republic of Iran September 23, 2009, General Debate, UN General Assembly 64th Session

the shunning, however, diminishes neither the truth nor its recognition by the morally conscious”Clearly, continuation of the current circumstances in the world is impossible. The present inequitable and unfavorable conditions run counter to the very nature of human kind and move in a direction which contravenes the truth and the goal behind the creation of the world.”… The era of capitalist thinking and . imposition of one’s thoughts on the international community, intended to predominate the world in the name of globalization and the age of setting up empires is over. It is no longer possible to humiliate nations and impose double standard policies on the world community.”Approaches in which realization of the interests of certain powers is considered as the only criteria to weigh democracy, and using the ugliest methods of intimidation and deceit under the mantle of freedom as a democratic practice, and approaches through which sometimes dictators are portrayed as democrats, lack legitimacy and must be totally rejected.
“The time has come to an end for those who define democracy and freedom and set standards whilst they themselves are the first who violate its fundamental principles. They can no longer sit both the judge and the executor and challenge the real democratically- established governments.”The awakening of nations and the expansion of freedom worldwide will no longer allow them to continue their hypocrisy and vicious attitudes. Because of all these reasons most nations including the people of the Untied States are waiting for real and profound changes. They have welcomed and will continue to welcome changes.”ibid.

Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant begins operation
Iran’s first nuclear power station has begun operating at a low level, says the Russian company that built it.
The generating unit at the Bushehr reactor was brought up to the “minimum controllable level of power” on Sunday.
“This is one of the final stages in the physical launch of the reactor,” said Vladislav Bochkov, a spokesman for the Russian company Atomstroyexport.
Tehran says its intentions are purely peaceful.
On Monday, a member of an Iranian parliamentary commission monitoring Bushehr said “final tests” were being conducted.
The following day, Atomstroyexport said it had launched “a self-supporting chain reaction” in the “active zone” of the plant’s first reactor.
“This means that a nuclear reaction has begun,” it said.
Iran’s Fars news agency said the plant would start providing power to the national grid within two months.
Western concerns
The Bushehr project was begun in 1970s but it has been dogged by delays.
Construction on the plant was abandoned after Iran’s 1979 Islamic revolution until the mid-1990s, when Moscow reached a billion-dollar deal with Tehran to complete it.
In February, Iran had to remove fuel from the reactor “for technical reasons”, amid speculation that the Stuxnet computer virus may be responsible.
The United States and other Western nations for years urged Russia to abandon the project, warning it could help Iran build atomic weapons, which Iran vehement has always denied.
But an agreement obliging Tehran to repatriate spent nuclear fuel to Russia eased those concerns.

Iran to Send Man in Space by 2019
26 juillet 2010 by Planet-Techno-Science Filed under Sky and Space, Space conquest
@AFP/Getty images
Iran President Ahmadinejad said that Iran will send its first man in a space shuttle into space by 2010.
Iran test-fired their home-built –satellite last February, the space shuttle carries turtles, rat and worms; with a hope to send man into the space in the future by 2019.
According to the president Iran will moved their scheduled plan about the space program by five years, as their decision to the threats being pressed to them from the sanctions being imposed to them by Security Council in June for the dubious nuclear programs.
Western countries suspected Iran that they are using their states nuclear and space industries and used to launch nuclear warheads. Western are also concern that they are only used these industries to develops ballistic and atomic weapons.
UN Security Council already issued sanctions to Iran for their continuous and ambitious space programs, which includes firing of space rockets and building space satellites in the outer space.
Iran is the fifth-largest oil exporter in the world, and they have claimed that they have developed their nuclear industries in generating their nation’s electricity.
According to the Telecommunication Minister Reza Taghipour, this coming end of August, a new satellite is planning to launch by Iran, it is the Rasad 1.
Early this year on March, the president said that there will be new satellites to launch in their country that are capable of transmitting images and necessary information.
Satellite-carrying rocket, the Kavoshgar -3 or the Explorer-3 was developed by Tehran that is programmed to transmit information and live images and footage back to earth.
According to the officials, Iran already launched their home –built satellite, the Omid satellite was launched to help the country form telecommunication and for researching purposes.
Iran aims it to make it big into the aerospace technology.
Iran ramps up space program
Iran launched first domestically built satellite in 2009 and promises more launches in 2011

Share Print Font: +-Iran has its sights set on putting an astronaut on the moon by 2025, after becoming the first Islamic nation to put its own payload into space last year. But the grand goal of getting to the moon may be among the least of the benefits Iran expects to reap from its expanding space program.
Iran’s motivations for a space program are most likely practical: developing possible ballistic missile technology and building international prestige as a message to friends and enemies alike, analysts say.
“They will clearly use dual-use technology for a military buildup, and as long as they at least dabble in human spaceflight, they get advantageous press coverage on that as well,” said Joan Johnson-Freese, professor of National Security Studies at the Naval War College in Newport, R.I.
Iran launched its first domestically built satellite in February 2009 and promises more satellite launches in 2011. It also has offered to help any other Muslim countries with developing their own space programs, according to a FAQ recently compiled by Tiffany Chow, a researcher at Secure World Foundation, a watchdog group based in Washington, D.C., that tracks space security issues.
Such political signals may serve Tehran’s purpose even if the country lacks the technical capabilities to back up its intentions, analysts said.
“Given the current state of Iran’s launch capabilities, it is unlikely that they’d be able to develop a human spaceflight program and successfully send an Iranian to the moon by 2025,” Chow pointed out.
Fits and starts
Several earlier launch attempts by Iran appeared to fail despite the country’s claims otherwise, according to the Secure World Foundation FAQ. The rocket technology involves a mix of North Korean and Soviet missile designs.
The first launch attempt involved a two-stage rocket named Safir (“Ambassador” in Farsi), with a dummy satellite, Aug. 17, 2008. The rocket failed shortly after liftoff, according to outside analysts.
Confirmed success finally came with the launch of the Safir-2 rocket Feb. 3, 2009. That rocket placed an Omid satellite weighing some 44 to 60 pounds (20 to 27 kilograms) into low Earth orbit. The cube-shaped satellite is almost 16 inches (40 centimeters) on each side.
Another launch attempt, this past Feb. 2, involved a Kavoshgar (“Explorer”) sounding rocket designed to climb just 62 miles (100 kilometers). The sounding rocket a rocket designed to collect data rather than transport cargo had a living payload consisting of two turtles, a worm and a rat that were supposed to parachute back down to safety. No solid proof of the launch’s success ever emerged.
Iran had played up the event by launching the rocket from the back of a military truck rather than one of the country’s four designated space launch sites. The Defense Minister, Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, oversaw the launch and issued a warning that Iran would not tolerate “any unpeaceful use (of space) by any country.”
Such portrayals by Iran of its launches are in stark contrast to “repeated delays in their space program and failures not discussed,” according to Charles Vick, senior technical and policy analyst at GlobalSecurity.org.
Next on the launch pad
There’s more to come in 2011.
Iran announced it will launch its 89-foot-long (27 meters) Simorgh rocket, also known as Phoenix, which has a liquid fuel propulsion system capable of carrying more than 220 pounds (100 kg) to an altitude of almost 311 miles (500 km).
The Simorgh rocket can carry a new generation of Iranian satellites such as the Mesbah “Lantern” cube satellite, which measures almost 20 inches (50 cm) on each side and weighs between 132 and 165 pounds (60-75 kg).
Mesbah-1 was originally designed and built by Italy and slated for launch by Russia. (Russia had built Iran’s first commercial satellite, Sinah, and launched it Oct. 27, 2005.)
But Russia reported that the Mesbah-1 satellite never arrived for launch, and in July 2009 it announced its refusal to launch any more Iranian satellites. Italy similarly refused to help. Mesbah-1 disappeared and has since been replaced by Mesbah-2, built by Iran largely using the Italian design.
“Some of Iran’s domestic launch capabilities are indeed inspired by, and to some extent based on, foreign models and systems,” Chow told SPACE.com. “Based on recent Iranian claims, though, it appears their newest launch vehicles and satellites are indigenously designed and constructed.”
The Tolu (“Sunrise”), due to launch in 2011, would become Iran’s first remote-sensing satellite.
Behind the rocketry
Iran’s launch vehicles rely heavily upon North Korean and Chinese rocket or missile designs, which are in turn often derived from Soviet missiles, analysts say. [ Most Destructive Space Weapons Concepts ]
“Direct evidence of assistance, education and hardware transfer from the Chinese to the Iranian and North Korean defense and space (industries) has been witnessed on large scale within China’s military industrial infrastructure,” Vick said in an e-mail.
North Korea has been focusing mostly on missile development, as opposed to space, given their failures to achieve sustained orbit for any satellites, Vick noted. Meanwhile, Iran’s ballistic missile program has been moving like “gangbusters,” he added.
But Vick compared the intentions behind China’s five-year plan and Iran’s three-year plan for space to the Apollo moon program of the 1960s. The Apollo and other U.S. civilian programs helped push ahead basic sciences and military technologies to keep the United States”several generations ahead of our adversaries,” Vick explained.
Johnson-Freese suggested Iran sees a space program as a “win-win from both the technical and techno-nationalistic political perspectives,” considering how missile and rocket development go hand-in-hand. Whether or not that gets them to the moon may be beside the point.
“The bottom line is, I think Iran’s human spaceflight plans are mostly talk, but any part that isn’t will be a bonus to them,” Johnson-Freese said.

West ’causing drought’ in Iran: Ahmadinejad
–
AFP, Tehran, May 19, 2011 – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday accused Western countries of devising plans to ’cause drought’ in the Islamic republic, as he inaugurated a dam in a central province.
‘Western countries have designed plans to cause drought in certain areas of the world, including Iran,’ the official IRNA news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying in the central city of Arak in Markazi province.
‘According to reports on climate, whose accuracy has been verified, European countries are using special equipment to force clouds to dump’ their water on their continent, he said.
By doing so, ‘they prevent rain clouds from reaching regional countries, including Iran,’ Ahmadinejad charged.
Iran has experienced several droughts in recent years.
Ahmadinejad also recalled, according to IRNA, an article by ‘a Western politician,’ whom he did not identify, in which ‘droughts in some regions spanning from Turkey and Iran to east of Asia are predicted for the next 30 years.’
‘The regions (referred to in) the article… include countries whose culture and civilisation frighten the West,’ Ahmadinejad said in support of his argument.
Iranian leaders claim on a daily basis that Western countries, led by arch-foe United States, devise ‘plots’ to undermine the Islamic republic and to impede its economic and scientific development.
They also accuse world powers of colluding against Iran’s national unity, independence, political establishment, culture as well as international relations.
Ahmadinejad visits a Gas-refinery in Iran
AFP
A visit by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to a major refineries in Iran, was overshadowed by an accidental explosion, without threatening the security of the President or disrupt his program.
The explosion, caused by an “accidental gas leak”, has killed one person and injured 25 in a production of gasoline at the refinery in Abadan (southwest) which Mr. Ahmadinejad had just launched. The Prefect of Abadan, Ghanaati Hamid, was quoted by the official IRNA news agency.
A member of Abadan, Ali Mousavi Jorf, told Fars news agency on Tuesday, that he had warned the authorities concerning a possible accident during the visit of the President, when he tested the unit 10 days ago.
On Tuesday, the parliament speaker, Ali Larijani, urged Ahmadinejad to appoint another manager to lead the strategic ministry (in a country that derives 80% of oil resources in foreign currency).
The President returned to Tehran in mid-day after giving instructions to the wounded in Abadan to be airlifted to hospitals in the capital.
Several wounded were the victims of toxic fumes, caused by the quickly contained fire, which followed the explosion, according to media reports.
The Abadan refinery, located in the oil province of Khuzestan which borders Iraq, is the oldest and one of the largest in the country. Several accidental explosions were reported last year in Iranian oil and gas infrastructure – wells, platforms, refineries, pipelines.
The most serious was a dozen dead and 16 wounded in September 2010 during the explosion of a gas pipeline under construction in north-eastern Iran.
These targeted facilities experienced several attacks.
Le principal gazoduc acheminant le gaz du sud de l’Iran vers Téhéran a été saboté à deux reprises depuis le début de l’année, selon des informations rapportées par les médias iraniens. The main pipeline bringing gas from southern Iran to Tehran was sabotaged twice since the beginning of the year, according to information reported by Iranian media.
Ces sabotages, qui n’ont pas été revendiqués ni attribués par les autorités à des groupes particuliers, ont provoqué des explosions mais n’ont pas fait de victimes ni perturbé l’approvisionnement de la capitale. These acts of sabotage, which have not been claimed or attributed by authorities to specific groups, caused explosions but no casualties or disruption to supply the capital.
Des informations circulant sur internet mais jamais confirmées officiellement ni de sources indépendantes font épisodiquement état d’actions contre des infrastructures pétrolières au Khouzistan. Information has been circulating on the internet, but has never officially been confirmed by independent sources which occasionally report actions against oil infrastructure in Khuzestan.
Une certaine tension règne actuellement dans cette province largement arabophone, qui abrite l’essentiel des réserves pétrolières de l’Iran, deuxième producteur de l’OPEP. Some tension is prevailing in the Arabic province, which houses the bulk of Iran’s oil reserves, second largest producer in OPEC.
Demonstrations, called by Arab minority activists in Ahvaz, claim they resulted in several dozen deaths, in April. It was reported by Human Rights International and other advocating, but unconfirmed, groups.
The authorities have announced their investigation on April 21, with the arrest of “eight terrorists from a group called e Khalq-Arab (Arab people)”, accusing them of an armed attack that killed three people, including a policeman on 15 April, in Ahvaz.
Le président prononçait à Abadan un discours retransmis en direct à la télévision lorsque les médias ont rapporté l’incident auquel il n’a pas fait allusion. The president delivered a speech in Abadan, which was broadcast live on television when the media reported the incident.
Iranian MPs say Ahmedinejad broke law in oil ministry takeoverPresident under shadow of impeachment in latest spat with the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is locked in confrontation with MPs after being warned he acted illegally by declaring himself caretaker oil minister in what his critics called an unconstitutional power grab.
Iranian media reported that the majlis (parliament), which has repeatedly clashed with the president over key policy issues in recent weeks, voted 165-1 to approve a report by its energy committee, which declared Ahmadinejad’s move an “obvious violation of law”.
The vote was triggered by the president’s sacking of the oil minister, Massoud Mirkazemi, which was part of a plan to merge eight ministries into four to cut their overall number to 17. Observers said it was unclear whether there was now a real threat that Ahmadinejad could be impeached. But it was the latest spat in an increasingly ugly struggle between the president and his onetime mentor, the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Aides to Khamenei have castigated Ahmadinejad’s controversial chief-of-staff Esfandiar Rahim-Mashaie as representing a “deviant current” moving Iran away from Islamic principles.
Accusations of “perversion”, witchcraft and exorcism have been bandied around – as well as more conventional complaints of corruption.
The majlis vote was spearheaded by the speaker, Ali Larijani, who was sacked by Ahmadinejad as Iran’s national security chief in 2007 but is seen as a prospective candidate for the presidency in 2013.
Ahmadinejad’s original bid to streamline his cabinet was blocked by Khamenei. Ahmadinejad fought back by dismissing three ministers and temporarily taking over the oil ministry, but drew furious criticism from Khamenei’s camp.
The move by MPs reflects mounting alarm by Ahmadinejad’s rivals in the country’s conservative ruling elite, including hardline clerics and the elite Revolutionary Guards, especially since it involves the hugely important energy sector – the source of 80% of Iranian state revenue – and because Ahmadinejad is famous for his populist economic policies. Late last month parliament voted to investigate allegations that the president had misused state funds as effective bribes by giving $80 (£48.80) each to 9 million voters before the 2009 presidential election.
To complicate matters further, Iran is also the current chairman of Opec, although Ahmadinejad has said he will not attend its summit in Vienna next week.
“This illegal and hasty action will undermine the Islamic Republic of Iran’s interests on the international level,” the conservative-dominated parliament said in its report. “Mr Ahmadinejad as oil minister has issued some orders and will continue to issue orders which are obvious examples of illegal interference with governmental financial resources.”
Ahmadinejad has the power to remove ministers and put caretakers in place for up to three months before having to consult parliament and insists that no-one should have been surprised by the reshuffle.
Iran’s constitutional watchdog, the guardian council, has already called his takeover of the oil ministry illegal. The final say on the ministry lies with Khamenei – whose wholehearted backing for Ahmadinejad since his disputed re-election two years ago can clearly no longer be taken for granted.
In recent months, Ahmadinejad has sought to assert the presidential prerogative in hiring and firing ministers. He got his way in December, sacking the foreign minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, a Khamenei favourite, without warning.
But tensions exploded in April when Khamenei stopped Ahmadinejad from dismissing the intelligence minister, Heydar Moslehi, in a public intervention to limit the president’s power.
That provoked Ahmadinejad into a bizarre 11-day refusal to appear in public or carry out any duties.
The escalating power struggle in Tehran comes less than a year before parliamentary elections – due in March 2012 – in which prominent opposition figures are unlikely to be allowed to run, and rival conservative factions will battle for control of the legislature. Presidential elections are due in 2013.
Under pressure, Iran president names new oil chief

TEHRAN: President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad withdrew as the caretaker chief of the country’s vital oil sector and named an ally to run the ministry, state TV reported on Thursday.
A day after Iran’s Parliament voted to take Ahmadinejad to court for taking over the ministry, the president handed the job to 54-year-old Mohammad Aliabadi. He has served as head of Iran’s national Olympic committee, vice president in charge of physical education and head of the fishery organization.
The threat to take Ahmadinejad to court reflected the escalating power struggle between the president and the hard-line establishment that has turned on him in advance of parliamentary election next March and the presidential vote in mid-2013.
Lawmakers were infuriated when Ahmadinejad consolidated a series of ministries without parliamentary approval, fired the oil minister and named himself to the job.
Iran typically earns about $80 billion a year from crude oil exports, roughly 80 percent of its foreign revenue.
In other troubles for Ahmadinejad, 50 lawmakers signed a petition to summon the president to Parliament to answer questions. The number fell short of the one-quarter of the membership needed to order a president to appear for questioning before the Iranian assembly. That has not happened since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Those behind the petition want Ahmadinejad to respond to a long list of accusations, including his refusal to carry out laws passed by parliament, withdrawing money from state funds without authorization and his alleged lack of spending transparency.
Also on Thursday, cleric Mojtaba Zolnour, a top official with Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard, indirectly warned Ahmadinejad that the force might withdraw its support for him should he continue his disobedience of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has final say on all state matters.
The guards were key backer of Ahmadinejad when he was re-elected in 2009 in a disputed vote that sent Iran into its worst internal chaos since the 1979 revolution.
The parliamentary action and warning from the guards were the latest signs of political upheaval since Ahmadinejad publicly challenged Khamenei in April by dismissing Heidar Moslehi as intelligence minister without Khamenei’s approval.
Khamenei reinstated the intelligence minister, and Ahmadinejad backed down. Since then the president has been under increasing attack by his rivals in conservative camp.
Ahmadinejad says Israel, U.S. will ‘collapse’ in near future

Ahmadinejad accuses Israel of being the main factor in regional and global insecurity on day marking 22nd anniversary to the Islamic revolution in Iran.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Friday predicted the disappearance of the Zionist Entity of Israel as well as the United States of America in the near future, saying he was certain the nations would soon collapse.
“I am certain that the region will soon witness the collapse of Israel and the U.S.,” Ahmadinejad said in a speech at the shrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the late supreme leader of the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has admitted for the first time that a rift has developed between him and some of the most senior figures of the Islamic regime.
In a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, the first since news emerged of his power struggle with the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the president said: “It is very clear now that we are 180 degrees away from them – we are actually on opposite sides.”
He pointed the finger at ruling conservatives, who have accused the government of “revolutionary deviancy”, while playing down suggestions that he has been at odds with Ali Khamenei.
In recent months, conservatives close to the supreme leader have launched an extensive campaign against the president and his allies, who they believe are undermining the supremacy of the leader.
Senior figures in the powerful revolutionary guards and some of the most prominent clerics in the country who have supported Ahmadinejad in the past are now distancing themselves from him.
Those who remain in his camp have faced accusations of “sorcery”, “deviancy” and even espionage, and some presidential aides have been arrested.
“They arrested those people. Good for them,” Ahmadinejad said.
“Now they should let us continue our job. The government is seeking for nothing rather than serving the people and fulfilling the revolutionary aims.”
He refused to answer further questions about the power struggle and said: “Our position at the moment is to stay silent. An inspiring unity silence.”
Ali Khamenei’s supporters believe Ahmadinejad has not publicly given his full backing to the supreme leader after they clashed over cabinet appointments in April.
Asked about Iran’s nuclear programme, the president denied recent allegations made by the chief executive of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano, that the country may be working on developing nuclear weapons.
“With America’s orders, the IAEA has written some things in a report that are against the law and against the agency’s regulations. These have no legal value and aside from harming the agency’s reputation it will have no other effect,” Ahmadinejad told reporters.
He also said no offer from world leaders could stop Iran enriching uranium and accused the US and its allies of meddling in Syria and Bahrain.

Iran slams NATO’s “deadly strikes” on Libya

(mathaba) Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for European Affairs Ali Ahani on Tuesday condemned the cowardly strikes by NATO on Libya, which have killed thousands, saying the attacks are “killing innocent people and destroying the country’s economic infrastructure,” the English language satellite Press TV reported.
Ahani criticized NATO’s military intervention in Libya during a meeting with the Serbian Foreign Ministry’s special envoy Darko Tanaskovic in Tehran.
The Security Council adopted Resolution 1973 on March 17, authorizing member states to “take all necessary measures to protect civilians under threat of attacks in Libya”, including in the opposition base of Benghazi, while excluding foreign occupation of any form on any part of the Libyan territory.
However, it turned out that no civilians were under any threat from the Libyan government nor Qaddafi, but were in fact under threat from the rebels that had seized power of Benghazi in the east, and have committed massacres against people of black skin colour, and also brutally murdered any supporters of Libya’s direct democracy government or the historic symbol of the revolution, Muammar Qaddafi. — mathaba

Ahmadinejad appeared for a public speech in the province of Lorestan and told the crowd “[Bush] used a deception named September 11 to prepare the ground to invade Iraq and Afghanistan,” adding “be warned that if you intervene militarily one more time, in any of the countries in North Africa or the Middle East, the regional nations will rise and dig the graves of your soldiers,” referring to the United States.
In his fiery speech, Ahmadinejad told the audience that all of the Middle East dictators are selected and backed by the United States.
“Today, they [the West] claim they are confronting dictators… [But] everywhere in the world, in all of the Muslim world, in all of the Middle East, wherever there is a dictator, he is backed by them,” said Ahmadinejad.
“And now they come and say they want to support the people… but your plans have been derailed… today no one recognises your claim of supporting the people.”
Ahmadinejad said the US weapons were killing people all over the Middle East.

Venezuela’s President Hugo ChavezChavez revealed that he received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to discuss Libya.
According to Chavez, Ahmadinejad expressed his concern about the situation of North African country.
“I proposed that reactivaramos ‘the proposal Chavez'” he said, referring to his initiative to establish an international commission to mediate in the crisis Libya.
“Instead of killing people, listen to them,” Ahmadinejad said in comments aired on state television.

Tehran, 02 August IRNA — Iran on Tuesday called on Western governments to stop bloodshed in Libya caused by indiscriminate bombardment of residential areas.
Iran urges Western governments to halt bloodshed in Libya
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the issue of Libya will be resolved through collective contribution of its people away from interference of foreign countries.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has carried more than 15,000 sorties of air attacks on Libya killing at least two or three women and children in every air strike.
NATO countries say that they are enforcing the United Nations Security Council resolution which called for establishment of no-fly zone in Libya.
Observers say that the NATO practice proved the otherwise and there is alarming humanitarian crisis in Libya.
Mehmanparast said that Iran has drawn up a plan to resort to democratic means in Libya rather than NATO bombardment of the Libyan people.
He told reporters in his weekly press briefing that Iran is currently negotiating with other countries about the plan.
Ahmadinejad launches housing project

Mehr Housing Project in Iran’s East Azarbaijan Province
http://www.presstv.ir/detail/194019.html
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has inaugurated a major project providing thousands of houses to low-income families in southern Iran.
As many as 17,645 housing units were launched during a ceremony in Iran’s southern Fars Province on Monday, IRIB reported.
The Iranian government has been carrying out a major housing plan, Mehr Housing Project, in different parts of the country to build millions of residential units and stabilize housing prices.
Last month, Ahmadinejad also attended a ceremony to mark the launch of 16,000 residential units of the project in East Azarbaijan Province.
Ahmadinejad referred to the inauguration of Mehr Housing Project and said that works related to the project should move ahead rapidly to be able to meet the growing demand for housing across the country.
“Large numbers of Iranians waiting for years to own a home does not suit the nation and stature of the country. The might of the country, including financial, managerial and executive, has been mobilized to address the housing demand,” he noted.

A couple of hours before Mr. Erdogen spoke, Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, delivered one of his characteristic anti-Western broadsides, embroidered with tinges of religious mysticism. He blamed the United States, Israel and Europe for the global recession and a litany of other ills. He also suggested that the American military’s killing of Osama bin Laden last May and the disposal of his body at sea was part of a dark conspiracy to conceal the real perpetrators of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Mr. Ahmadinejad’s remarks provoked what has become a ritual large-scale walkout of delegations led by the United States.

A Few Words With Iran’s President
By NICHOLAS D. KRISTOF
Published: 21 September 2011
Before sparks began flying between me and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, he began my interview with an unusual olive branch: “I would like to, with your permission, greet all of your readers as well as Web viewers and wish all of them the success and blessings of the Almighty.”
Mr. Ahmadinejad is a complex, even bizarre, figure. A firebrand with a penchant for making explosive public statements, he is small in person, subdued and very soft-spoken. Even when I pushed him hard on human rights abuses and nuclear deceptions, he responded in even tones while claiming that Iran is manifestly more democratic than the United States.
Another olive branch came hours after our conversation with the release of the two American hikers who had been imprisoned unjustly for two years in Iran. Mr. Ahmadinejad didn’t even attempt to suggest that they were spies, but he bristled at my questions about them. He claimed that they had entered Iran illegally and would have merited punishment in any country.
This was Mr. Ahmadinejad’s only print interview on his visit to the United Nations General Assembly, and he made a significant effort to be friendly and conciliatory. Most important, he repeated an offer made in a Washington Post interview this month to stop all nuclear enrichment if the West would supply nuclear fuel enriched to a 20 percent level. He insisted that Iran will happily give up its enrichment processing if it can get this enriched uranium for “cancer treatment medication.”
“If they were willing to sell us the 20 percent enriched uranium, we would have preferred to buy it,” he said. “It would have been far less expensive. It’s as though you wish to purchase a vehicle for yourself. No one is willing to sell it to you, then you must set up your own production line to produce your own vehicle.”
This sounds very much like an incipient deal that Mr. Ahmadinejad initially welcomed two years ago but was later scotched by the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The chief of Iran’s nuclear program, Fereydoon Abbasi, seemed to reiterate recently that any such deal was dead.
But when I raised those points, Mr. Ahmadinejad insisted that there had never been any daylight between himself and the supreme leader on the nuclear issue and that Mr. Abbasi was not opposed today. When I asked skeptically if Mr. Ahmadinejad spoke for the full Iranian leadership, there was a flash of resentment at the question. He insisted that he did, indeed, have full authority.
Is this a real offer to stop all enrichment? I don’t know, but it’s worth it for the West to pursue it — without easing sanctions in the meantime. One question is how the West could verify an end to enrichment. I asked Mr. Ahmadinejad about that and noted Iran’s history of deceptions.
“We have done nothing wrong,” he said, denying sharply that his country had hidden anything.
Mr. Ahmadinejad called for Syria, his ally, to stop its violent crackdown on protesters, cautioning that “with clashes and confrontations problems will not be solved. They will be multiplied.”
Oh? What’s the difference with Mr. Ahmadinejad’s own harsh crackdown on dissidents?
“In Iran, things were quite different,” he insisted, a bit testy. Many of the dead in Iran were members of security forces, he claimed, suggesting that protesters were not deliberately targeted.
I asked Mr. Ahmadinejad what he thought when he saw the famous photos of a young woman, Neda Agha-Soltan, lying on the ground and bleeding to death after she had been shot in the chest.
A hint of sadness crossed Mr. Ahmadinejad’s face. I thought, for a moment, that he was going to apologize. Instead, he constructed his own reality: He suggested that she had been murdered by his opponents, working with the BBC, as part of a bizarre snuff film.
“We do search for those who are truly guilty of murdering this young lady,” he said.
Our interview became more confrontational, and we tussled over Iran’s repression of the Bahai faith and other human rights issues. Mr. Ahmadinejad’s minders were signaling that the interview was ending, but he seemed to enjoy the give-and-take and ignored them.
Mr. Ahmadinejad also indulged in a bit of triumphalism. He acknowledged that the West’s “crippling” sanctions against Iran had “worked well.” But he added: “Does Iran face more problems or the United States of America?” He referred to the “collapse” of the American financial system and suggested that Iran’s economy is in better shape.
He added that the West will be driven by its weakness to “seek a rapprochement with Iran.”
Then the interview was over, and Mr. Ahmadinejad zoomed back from bombast to conciliation. He beamed and told me: “We truly like and love the people of the United States.”

An Interview With Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
By NICHOLAS KRISTOF
The following is a transcript of my conversation with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. The interview was conducted in New York City on September 20, 2011, and served as the basis for this column.
Nicholas Kristof: Mr. President, welcome to New York. Thank you very much for taking the time. If I can start by asking about the American hikers. You said on Sept. 13 that they’d be free in a couple of days. What happened and when will they be handed over?
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: In the name of God the most gracious the most merciful I would like to, with your permission, greet all of your readers as well as web viewers and wish all of them the success and blessings of the almighty. As you are well aware the American citizens trespassed our borders illegally, according to which we undertook proper prosecution through the proper channels in the judiciary. There have been efforts to free them. And I do believe that all governments do have quite deep punishments for illegal trespassing of their sovereign borders. And we have undertaken efforts to, God willing, free them as soon as possible and it will happen, God willing.
N.K.: But what went wrong? You said on Sept. 13 that they would be freed within a couple of days and that did not happen. In a sense, are you not speaking for the complete Iranian government? Are there other forces trying to block them?
M.A.: No there have been no issues to speak of. I said on Sept. 13 that they would be freed in a matter of a few days and it turns into a few days, which we’re still going through those few days. But I was quoted as saying “a couple of days.” It’s a legal process that we must go through.
N.K.: So would you expect that in the next week they would be released?
M.A.: Right within that time frame. In a matter of a few days they will be freed.
N.K.: On another aspect of Iranian/US relations, you have raised the possibility that if the United States were willing to provide low enriched uranium, 20 percent grade, that Iran would stop enriching to that level. Is that offer still on the table? Mr. Abbasi-Davani, the head of the Iranian nuclear program, was quoted as saying that that was no longer a possibility.
M.A.: Who did you hear that from sir?
N.K.: Mr. Abbasi-Davani was quoted as saying that before you spoke—before your interview with The Washington Post. What he said was that Iran will no longer negotiate a fuel swap and a halt to our production of fuel and that the United States is not a safe country with which we can negotiate a fuel swap or any other issue.
M.A.: Yes this is a historic takeaway for us. Many times there have been conversations and agreements, and results were not seen. Tangible results. That alone perhaps is a reason why Doctor Abbasi would be disappointed. We did, I’m sure you do recall, help such talks, but that was turned into a political chance for the western powers. If they give us the 20% enriched uranium this very week, we will cease the domestic enrichment of uranium of up to 20 percent this very week. We only want the 20% enrichment for our domestic consumption. If they give it to us according to international law, according to IAEA laws, without preconditions, we will cease domestic enrichment. This is not something we wish to produce and sell on the open market. 20% enriched uranium, as you know, is not useful for much of anything other than the production of cancer treatment medication. It is not useful for a power plant.
N.K.: One concern that the West would have over that proposal is the question of verification. The facility outside Qom was in effect kept secret until it was discovered and there are concerns that Iran is enriching in locations we don’t know about. How do you address that and would you be willing to accompany this proposal with robust verification measures?
M.A.: According to the charter of the IAEA we can undertake such activities but must let the agency know 6 months before the start of enrichment. In the facilities around the holy city of Qom we let the agency know 18 months prior to the start of the enrichment, so in reality what laws have we broken? Unfortunately political pressures exerted onto the IAEA have derailed its core mission. According to the law, again, we were obliged to let them know 6 months ahead of the start of enrichment, but we let them know 18 months ahead of time. So we have done nothing wrong. But, under pressures of the United States government and other governments, they succumb to these political pressures. If they would move according to the laws, we would have no issues, we would have no challenges. All of our facilities have been transparent, continue to be transparent, all of them are open to the IAEA inspectors and have also IAEA cameras installed in them for continuous monitoring.
N.K.: So I just want to make sure I understand the outline of that deal. If western countries provided 20 percent enriched fuel for the Tehran reactor, then Iran would stop all further enrichment. Is that correct?
M.A.: Yes, yes, we’ve said this before. We’ve said this many times. This is nothing new.
N.K.: Once before when this question of moving fuel outside Iran came up, there seemed to be disagreement between you and other figures in the country. Is it clear that you and your supreme leader absolutely agree on this? That you were speaking for the entire country on this question?
M.A.: When were there differing positions? When did we speak with anything other than a united voice? There were no differences of opinion. Again, if they give us 20 percent enriched uranium, according to IAEA norms, they must give us the fuel and receive proper compensation for it. Anything outside of this framework is illegal. Again the 20 percent enriched uranium other than to be used in the reactor which produces cancer treatment medication is not useful for anything else. It cannot be used for the production of energy and it must be stored in a very sensitive and expensive facility. It has no other use. Twenty percent enriched uranium must be either used for medical purposes for which we set up a reactor and there is only…we have only been able to produce 10 kilograms. If they were willing to sell us the 20 percent enriched uranium we would have preferred to buy it. It would have been far less expensive. It’s as though you wish to purchase a vehicle for yourself. No one is willing to sell it to you, then you must set up your own production line to produce your own vehicle. Which way is more comfortable and less expensive for you? We were forced to set up a factory for a very small quantity. And this is not the type of merchandise or good that we can take to the open market and sell and make a profit on. For each reactor we must make a custom order.
N.K.: And would there be any circumstances in which Iran would transfer nuclear materials or nuclear technology to another country?
M.A.: We have even accepted this. Even though it was a precondition and illegal at its foundation. We were willing to exchange, swap the fuel, in Brazil or Turkey, but the United States government…well what can I say? It is the United States government.
N.K.: There’s been a lot written about Stuxnet. A lot written in this country about Stuxnet. Can you tell us how much it did impede the centrifuges in Iran and to the extent that there was a problem, has that now at this point been largely resolved?
M.A.: It did not really damage at any level. These types of things do not damage Iran. We have software specialists and program specialists that are very experienced. No one can really disable Iran with an Internet virus.
N.K.: In 2003 there was discussion of a Grand Bargain between Iran and the U.S. resolving so many of these issues. At that time Iran seemed quite open to such a deal. Is a Grand Bargain still viable in your mind between Iran and the United States today?
M.A.: We always keep an open mind. We have always been open. We voluntarily shut down our facilities for 2.5 years and we voluntarily executed all of the requirements and implemented. But unfortunately instead of an easing of foundation-less accusations there was an increase in these accusations. So we decided to go back to the letter of the law. No more, no less. Of course we are ready for cooperation. We have always been ready and willing to cooperate and start a dialogue. Let’s have a dialogue. Let’s have mutual enrichment, multilateral enrichment. But unfortunately it’s the United States government. They tend to act unilaterally and force parties to do things and unfortunately we do not react too well to forceful situations but if we go back to the spirit and the letter of the laws and fairness and justice for all we will overcome most of the challenges. An entity that has 5,000-7,000 nuclear weapons in her arsenal…is that entity in a position to tell others not to obtain nuclear weapons? Is this fair? But that’s not even our intention. We wish to use it for peaceful purposes. They tell us you cannot even do that. Whereas they have used it before for war. This is unfair, this is unjust, this is not going to yield results. Those days are gone, those thoughts, those behaviors, can no longer solve the world’s issues. The behavior must change. A behavior modification must be brought about. By accusing Iran, America will not be able to fix her financial and economic problems. American politicians are always hard at work in order to create an external enemy or external evil in order to alleviate problems at home. But allow me to ask you: Is Iran really responsible for the health care challenges, financial challenges, housing and mortgage challenges in the U.S.? High rate of unemployment? Decreasing the quality of education? Is really the Iranian enrichment responsible for all of these domestic challenges? So if we resolve the Iranian uranium enrichment challenges all of these problems in Iran will go away? So the only impediment to democracy and stability and security around the world is Iran? If we did not have enrichment in Iran there would be no problems in Iraq and Afghanistan? These are propaganda campaigns and they’re used to it. They’ve always been like this. They make a lot of noise. They should think of behavior modification and all problems shall be solved.
N.K.: In terms of behavior, or in terms of opportunities for a dialogue between Iran and the United States, do you see any difference between President Obama and his administration and that of George W. Bush?
M.A.: Well we were quite hopeful to see some tangible differences. We were looking forward to seeing such differences. Mr. Obama promised change at every level. Deep changes. Many have been left disappointed. We are hopeful that it will take place. Dialogue has certain conditions. It has certain natural frameworks of justice, of mutual respect, of pure intent, and of friendship, and partnership. We cannot hold a stick over someone’s head and force them into dialogue. This is not the spirit of dialogue and cooperation or negotiation. Officially Mr. Obama said that we wish to handicap Iran through embargoes. Trade embargoes. These were not presidential words. Even though the people of Iran are a great people, Iran is a great nation. And as she has, she will continue to live without the United States She can continue to live without the United States. But for a nation like the United States of America, it is not presidential for its chief to speak in such terms. He could have said “I wish to open a dialogue with Iran under a mutually respectful conditions.” We have no problems. We have said it since a long time ago. Under proper, respectful, just fair conditions, we will sit down and open a dialogue. And I repeat the same, it’s true today. It wasn’t us that had problems with the United States of America. There was a unilateral cessation of diplomatic relations started by the United States of America. It wasn’t us. Have we ever tried to come to the United States to carry out a coup d’état? Have we ever occupied countries bordering the United States militarily? Have we ever threatened military action against the United States? We never have. The various governments of the United Sates throughout time have occupied lands bordering our nation, endangering our security, putting us under sanctions, meddling in our internal affairs, showing animosity. Why? What have the Iranian people done to you? What has the Iranian government done to you? Nothing. We had a revolution to free ourselves. And we did. Prior to our freedom, in result of the revolution, a violent dictatorship that was supported by the United States was against the people of Iran. But from the day in which people in Iran gained control of their destiny, following the revolution, we have been brushed aside. Why? Today, the government of the United States says “I stand for democracy.” Why is it that you’re against a democratic country like the Islamic Republic of Iran? There is no advantage in this for them. Being friends with Iran is to their benefit. But friendship has a specific framework. You cannot hold a weapon onto somebody’s face forcing them into your version of friendship. That will not work. They say “we will pressure Iran into a dialogue or negotiations.” How? This is not friendly. And it will never yield results. Iran is a great nation. It has a rich history going back thousands of years. A great people. They will not surrender so easily.
N.K.: Mr. President, I agree with you that Iran is a great nation. Many of us would agree that the United States has made terrible mistakes in the past in Iran. But those of us who have argued for dialogue, for some kind of a Grand Bargain frankly feel undermined by your government. It is harder to argue for that kind of dialogue at a time when there seems to be a pattern of nuclear deception, when there has been repression of political dissidents, when our American hikers have been imprisoned for what we perceive as unjust reasons for far too long. So it seems to us that a considerable amount of the responsibility also rests on the shoulders of your government.
M.A.: I am not saying that everyone doesn’t bear a certain responsibility but I ask you: If a hiker runs through a red light, because he or she is a hiker, the police will forgive them and not issue a citation? If a hiker breaks the laws because he or she is a hiker, then the law will forgive? There have been in every country illegal trespass of the borders of a sovereign nation is a crime. Does the United States government allow Iranian citizens to trespass her borders and enter illegally by boat through a body of water…will they allow such a thing? If they trespass and infiltrate the United States or enter illegally, then we can say, well perhaps they were just engaging in a boat race and they did not intend to do so. Would this be acceptable to the U.S.? No! These talks of democracy and human rights, this is something on the world’s scale. No one is in a position to impose their standards or versions on anyone else. If there is an agreement to be reached, we must sit at the table of conversation and reach a mutually beneficial path. Who says that democracy is stronger in the United States then it is in Iran? Who has said that? Really in the United States people are sovereign? Really are the people willing to spend their hard-earned dollars in Afghanistan and Iraq rather than being spent on themselves? Are they willing to lose their sons and daughters in foreign lands for unclear purposes rather than receive those funds for education and health care? When they’re unhappy it shows that they are not in control of their destiny. They do not get the right to choose. So when the will of the people does not prevail, it shows that they do not directly participate. So it’s the political parties that are in control here.
M.A.: Vis a vis democracy, there must be a formula, a model that must be reached that can be duplicated across the globe. As far as the voice of the people, Iran is much farther ahead compared to the United States. I was a teacher; I was chosen. I was elected by the people and I was not a member of any party. Now—I ask you, in the United States a presidential candidate that does not belong to one of the two main parties—can he or she be elected? No! Can you fit 300 plus million people in two parties, Republican and Democrat? No. But the official members of both parties probably do not surpass half a million. But as far as democracy there must be an informed dialogue. No one can enforce their will—their version of democracy on anyone else—with force, with weapons. And no one can reach that same goal by accusations, by empty accusations. The same goes for human rights. We must all sit and try to reach a mutually beneficial goal. Acceptable goals, ethical goals. The United States government is always seeking to impose her formula, her will, on everyone else. It will not work. Even if NATO comes into the scene alongside the U.S., they will not succeed. Do you think in Afghanistan human rights are being practiced? Security is no longer an issue? Everyone is happy in Afghanistan today? Is there stability? No! Is it the same in Iraq? Absolutely not! So the behavior—the path they’ve chosen—was wrong and is wrong. Everyone, all of the world, together, in unison, must sit and reach these conclusions. No one can see themselves only as the speaker for the whole—of humanity. There are only 300 plus million people in the United States, and many subject matter experts and philosophers and scientists in the rest of the world as well, everyone must help in giving shape to a formula that’s acceptable to everyone. Only in that case will there no longer be unfounded accusations. We are ready to actively participate. We don’t say the word “complete” and have no challenges or issues. we’ve never said that. Nor do we believe that. but we’re not the only ones who have issues. The United States has many more compared to us. So does Europe. Everyone does. Show me one place that has completely and has a spotless record of observing human rights and democracy. In the United States over 30,000 people a year are murdered. Each day 30 people across the United States are killed by police. These numbers have meanings. I’m not trying to accuse or convict the police across the United States but it shows that there is a fundamental underlying issue. We must identify that issue. Accusing everyone without solid foundations and proof will not solve anyone’s issues.
N.K.: Speaking of countries that are not spotless, tell me about Syria and what President Assad should do in terms of the uprising in his country.
M.A.: Syria is just like any other country. We have said that they must sit at the table of dialogue with mutual understanding and respect and resolve their issues. Fairness, freedom and respect is the right of all people. With clashes and confrontations problems will not be solved. They will be multiplied. Differences will be multiplied and magnified. And certainly foreigners must not intervene. Intervention of foreigners will only make the problem that much bigger, and will never solve it.
N.K.: But Mr. President, in Syria, as you say, clashes and confrontation made the problem worse but isn’t that also true of Iran, after your re-election, there were between 100 and 200 people killed, rival politicians are in prison. Aren’t you failing to accept the same advice that you were giving to President Assad?
M.A.: In Iran things were quite different, and are quite different. In total there were 33 lives lost. More than 2/3 of those killed belonged to the security forces and innocent bystanders. Less than 1/3 were those who clashed with the security/police forces. So they were a very very small minority.
N.K.: So when you saw the photo of Neda Soltan, what did you think?
M.A.: It was incredibly sad, due to many reasons. First we have proof that that scene was staged, and she was killed later, at a later point. This footage was shown for the first time by BBC. Our security officers and officials had no information of such a thing. but if BBC makes the complete footage from beginning to end available to us, we will analyze it, we will research it because we do search for those who are truly guilty of murdering this young lady. And also, a scene fairly close to this—almost a photocopy I would say—was repeated previously in a South American country—in a Latin American country. this is not a new scene. And they previously tell those who are due to participate, they tell them that “you will be participating in making a short footage, a short movie, a short clip.” After their participation is finished they take them to some place and they kill them. If BBC is willing to broadcast this film, this footage in its entirety, any viewer would be able to distinguish whether it is as we say or it is as they maintain.
N.K.: Mr. President, it’s true that many of the criticisms of your government come from the United States, but it’s not entirely from the West. Just a few days ago, Desmond Tutu from South Africa and President Ramos-Horta of East Timor, both Nobel Peace Prize winners, called on you to allow the education of the Bahai and to stop what they regarded as the persecution of the Bahai. Can you address that? And also the perception that Iran has serious human rights problems of its own?
M.A.: If you want to politicize the issue of human rights it will never be resolved. It is not a political achievement; it is a human achievement. Do you even know the group that you name? Do you know their makeup? Are they a religious group? A truly faithful group? Or a political group? Or an intelligence security group? Let’s make sure they are all named? Let’s make sure they all come forward. Let’s see their true makeup. In the United States is everyone free to do as they wish? There are no laws to respect? If anyone breaks the law will they not be put in front of the judiciary? In Iran there are laws. There are judges. There is an independent judiciary who is not under my control. The judge hails from the government. But the government cannot say or maintain or expect to exert influence on the judge and the judiciary. They adhere to the letter of the law. Because we adhere to the law we do not intervene in the judiciary’s affairs. Perhaps we can reach the conclusion that at some point in time a certain judge has reached the wrong conclusion or passed the wrong verdict. Does this never happen in the United States of America? Does this never happen anywhere else? Yes, we’re all human beings and human beings make mistakes. But can anyone say that in the United States judges do not vote politically? Out of political inclination? Yes, here the government can exert pressure on judges. But in Iran, there is no such possibility because the judiciary is completely independent from the rest of the government. And as far as the two Americans are concerned, we requested that of the judiciary. We requested that they be set free. We requested their forgiveness or a reduction in their penalty but they’re free not to accept my request. I cannot command them to do so.
N.K.: Mr. President, at the time of the Iranian Revolution in 1979, people were widely upset by the Shah’s regime. They wanted a more Islamic regime. But these days, so many young Iranians know nothing about life before. It seems to me that they are upset by economic difficulties, by corruption, by what seems to me to be fundamentally hypocrisy. What they perceive as hypocrisy. Do you worry that young Iranians who have seen no other government, that in a sense, you’re losing them? That you’re losing their loyalty?
M.A.: Have you seen Iran sir?
N.K.: Yes.
M.A.: How many times?
N.K.: Twice but once really. I had a wonderful time.
M.A.: This Thursday I traveled to one of the provinces. I walked through the streets for many hours in the middle of my people. Most of them were made up of the youth. What you say is not really tangible; it’s not a reality. Iran is a nation. They may have differences of opinion, they may have criticisms between one another, based on different opinions, but they all love their country, they all work hard for their country. I think the picture, the framework that you have in your mind based on that, one can reach the wrong conclusion. Perhaps a group may not like me. They’re free to feel that way. They have every right to feel that way. I cannot make everyone like me, or back me, or support me. We respect all of them. And we serve all of them. Now after we implemented the cessation of the social welfare programs, which encompassed every segment of the population, there were those who were for it and there were those who were against this policy. So what you’re talking about exists everywhere. Is every American happy of life in the United States. as it is today? No. If you allow them to come and speak their mind, what would they? They would speak against the United States congress, they would speak against their state governments, their local governments, their judiciaries, and so on. So judgments must be toned down and based in reality.
N.K.: As you look ahead to another 20 years, say, from now, what kind of a country do you foresee? Do you foresee it becoming closer to the West? Do you think that divide is going to diminish? Do you see it becoming more linked to middle eastern countries? Less linked? What about young people? Just tell me a little about your vision of Iran in 20 years.
M.A.: So are you suggesting that we get closer to the west?
N.K.: I would love that.
M.A.: Why?
N.K.: Because I think it would support global peace and development if Iran and the West had more of a dialogue, had more interchange, and were closer to each other.
M.A.: What you say sounds really good and I do agree with you. World peace is only achieved through participation of all parties involved. Everyone must have a share and help. But when it comes to national interests challenges are much more numerous in the west. Does Iran face more problems or Europe? Does Iran face more problems or the United States of America? I believe that in the next 20 years God willing that Iran will be a very advanced country, with great achievements and great scientific achievements. And because they will feel that they have to protect their own interests the west will also seek a rapprochement with Iran. allow me to remind you of this: the United States and her allies have put Iran under sanctions. And they have named it “crippling sanctions.” And they did their best. I will testify to this. I will attest to the fact that they did their best. So let no one believe that the sanctions did not work well. They worked well. But is today the Iranian economy facing a deeper crisis or is the United States economy facing a deeper crisis. Where are the crises? The United States government that was the principal enactor of the sanctions against Iran is suffering the depth of the economic collapse that you see her. so it clearly shows that we must change our lens, we must change our mindset, the situation is not always as we wish it to be. we must also accept it with its reality. Perhaps I can sit and draw a picture of the United States as I want it to be but seldom does reality make itself according to my portrayal. Only at a time when my portrayal is an accurate portrayal will it fit in the same mold and the same thing goes for Iran. Perhaps in our mind we have a certain picture that we would like to draw, it will not necessarily be true. Iran is a great nation. It’s been living her life, serving its people, but you see the world has changed. The dynamics and international relations have changed. Everyone wants legitimacy. Everyone—rights must be respected—we must all join hands. And no one is boss. Let’s remember: no one is master and no is a slave. We truly like and love the people of the United States like people from any other country. We love all people. And we do wish security, success and stability for every person, throughout the world. We believe that success and stability and security will only be achieved through mutually respectful and sincere collaboration which we’ve always been ready for. I wish you success as well sir.
N.K.: Thank you very much for your time.
M.A.: You asked very good questions. Thank you very much. We have a lot of freedoms in Iran. I do not believe that you can gain this easy of an access and speak so easily, so at ease, with the president of the United States but you can do that with the Iranian president. This is one of the one of the differences between our two countries.
END.

US CIA GOVERNment liars and troublemakers cannot accuse Gadhafi anymore, so they are now picking on IRAN!
Iran reacted immediately to the news, calling the accusations a fabrication.
This was fabricated to get Obama out of implications for his involvement in Mexico’s gun-running & drug cartel.

Iranians Accused of a Plot to Kill Saudis’ U.S. Envoy

A version of this article appeared in print on October 12, 2011, on page A1 of the New York edition with the headline: Iranians Accused Of A Plot to Kill SAUDIS’ U.S. ENVOY.
WASHINGTON — The United States on Tuesday accused Iranian officials of plotting to murder Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States in a bizarre scheme involving an Iranian-American used-car salesman who believed he was hiring assassins from a Mexican drug cartel for $1.5 million.

The alleged plot also included plans to pay the cartel, Los Zetas, to bomb the Israeli Embassy in Washington and the Saudi and Israeli Embassies in Argentina, according to a law enforcement official.
The plotters also discussed a side deal between the Quds Force, part of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, and Los Zetas to funnel tons of opium from the Middle East to Mexico, the official said. The plans never progressed, though, because the two suspects — the Iranian-American and an Iranian Quds Force officer — unwittingly were dealing with an informant for the Drug Enforcement Administration, officials said.
Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., who announced the murder plot at a news conference in Washington, said it was
The charges heightened tensions in an already fraught relationship between Iran and the United States.
The Iranian ambassador to the United Nations, Mohammad Khazaee, said his nation was “outraged” about the accusations. In a letter to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Mr. Khazaee said that Iran
Saudi Arabia and Iran are locked in a bitter regional rivalry, one that has intensified as they have jockeyed for influence since the political upheavals of the Arab Spring. The Saudi Embassy in Washington denounced the plot against the ambassador, Adel al-Jubeir, as “a despicable violation of international norms, standards and conventions.”
Mr. Holder’s assertion and the F.B.I.’s account of official Iranian involvement in the plot, reportedly code-named “Chevrolet,” provoked puzzlement from specialists on Iran, who said it seemed unlikely that the government would back a brazen murder and bombing plan on American soil.
Investigators, too, were initially skeptical about ties to Iran, officials said. They said, though, that the F.B.I. monitored calls to Iran about the plot and found money had been wired from a Quds Force bank account. In addition, the Iranian-American accused in the scheme, Mansour J. Arbabsiar, correctly identified a known Quds Force officer from a photo array, and his cousin — who he said recruited him for the plot — is another Quds official.
It remained unclear, though, whether the plot was conceived by a rogue element or had approval from top officials of the Revolutionary Guards or the Iranian government.
“It’s so outside their normal track of activity,” said a senior law enforcement official who had been involved in the investigation and would speak only on the condition of anonymity. “It’s a rogue plan or they’re using very different tactics. We just don’t know.”
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton expressed her incredulity in an interview with The Associated Press.
“The idea that they would attempt to go to a Mexican drug cartel to solicit murder-for-hire to kill the Saudi ambassador, nobody could make that up, right?” she asked, also saying that the plot “crosses a line that Iran needs to be held to account for.”
The State Department issued an alert on Tuesday for Americans traveling or living abroad regarding “the potential for anti-U.S. actions following the disruption” of the plot, which it said “may indicate a more aggressive focus by the Iranian government on terrorist activity.”
Mr. Arbabsiar, 56, a naturalized American citizen who lives in Corpus Christi, Tex., was named in a federal criminal complaint in New York along with Gholam Shakuri, whom the Justice Department identified as a member of the Quds Force.
Mr. Arbabsiar, who one official said sold used cars for a living, was arrested Sept. 29 at Kennedy International Airport in New York; Mr. Shakuri remains at large and is believed to be in Iran.
Minutes after the Justice Department laid out the charges, the Treasury Department announced sanctions against five people — including four “senior” members of the Quds Force, which the United States designated as a terrorist group in 2007.
White House officials said President Obama called the Saudi ambassador on Tuesday to express solidarity, saying the president “underscored that the United States believes this plot to be a flagrant violation of U.S. and international law, and reiterated our commitment to meet our responsibilities to ensure the security of diplomats serving in our country.”

Mr. Arbabsiar, who has lived in Texas for many years, made a brief appearance in federal court in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon, dressed in a blue checked shirt and with a pronounced scar on his left cheek. He did not enter a plea, but his lawyer, Sabrina Shroff, said after the hearing that “if he is indicted, he will plead not guilty.”
The case began in May, when a Drug Enforcement Administration informant with ties to high-level leaders of Los Zetas told agents of a bizarre conversation. He had been approached, he said, by an Iranian friend of his aunt’s in Corpus Christi — Mr. Arbabsiar — with a proposition to hire the cartel to carry out terrorist attacks inside the United States. Mr. Arbabsiar believed that the informant was an actual member of Los Zetas.
Over the next two months, Mr. Arbabsiar and the informant worked out a deal under which Mr. Arbabsiar would pay $1.5 million to Los Zetas to kill the Saudi ambassador at a restaurant in Washington, officials said.
The complaint quotes Mr. Arbabsiar as making conflicting statements about the possibility of bystander deaths; at one point he is said to say that killing the ambassador alone would be preferable, but on another occasion he said it would be “no big deal” if many others at the restaurant — possibly including United States senators — died in any bombing.
There was never any risk, officials said, because the informant was working for the drug agency, and their meetings in Mexico and telephone conversations, were being recorded by law enforcement authorities.
In early August, on a visit to Iran, Mr. Arbabsiar wired nearly $100,000 to the informant’s bank account as a down payment, according to court documents. In late September, he flew to Mexico City from Iran, intending to serve as human “collateral” to ensure that Los Zetas would be paid the rest of their money after killing the ambassador.
But the government of Mexico, at the request of the United States, denied entry to Mr. Arbabsiar and put him on a commercial flight with a stopover in New York, where he was arrested.
On Tuesday, the Justice Department released a letter to the court saying Mr. Arbabsiar had repeatedly waived his right to be quickly brought before a judge and to have a lawyer present during questioning. The letter said he had confessed to his role in the plot and had provided “extremely valuable intelligence.”
Mr. Holder said the United States “is committed to holding Iran accountable for its actions” but declined to answer a question about Iranian officials’ motivation for the alleged plot.
Experts on Iran expressed astonishment at both the apparently clumsy tradecraft and the uncertain goal of the intended mayhem on United States soil.
Rasool Nafisi, an Iranian-American scholar who studies the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, said he thought it unlikely that the plot was approved at a high level by Iranian officials. “It’s not typical of the Quds Force or the I.R.G.C. to operate in the U.S., for fear of retaliation,” Mr. Nafisi said. Iran’s last lethal operation on American soil, he said, was in 1980, when a critic of the Islamic government was murdered at his Bethesda, Md., home.
Mr. Nafisi said it was conceivable that elements of the Revolutionary Guards might have concocted the plot without top-level approval, perhaps to prevent reconciliation between Iran and the United States.
But Iran’s Islamic government has a long history of attempts to eliminate enemies living overseas, said Roya Hakakian, author of “Assassins of the Turquoise Palace,” a book on the murder of four Iranians in a Berlin restaurant in 1992. A German court found that the murders were approved at the highest levels of the Iranian government.
The gunman in the Berlin killings was also accused of plotting to kill the Saudi ambassador to Sweden, Ms. Hakakian said.

NRA Provides Details on Obama’s Mexican Gunrunning Operation
Posted by Dave Blount at March 26, 2011 9:34 AM
“If sending the US military into combat on behalf of al-Qaeda doesn’t qualify as treason, how about this. The Obama Regime deliberately allowed American guns to be smuggled into Mexico, knowing that they would be used to create mayhem when they inevitably bounced back across the deliberately under-defended border. The purpose: to undermine our constitutional right to bear arms by using American-bought guns in Mexican hands as a propaganda cudgel. Border Agent Brian Terry, while providing free police services to illegal aliens, was killed by one of these weapons when he was sent up against heavily armed Mexican bandits with a beanbag gun. Details from Wayne LaPierre of the NRA, via the Glenn Beck show:
(SEE VIDEO)
The Obama Misadministration apparently wants to scapegoat the Phoenix ATF office, but a plan this deranged could only have come from inside the Beltway. If this goes beyond Eric Holder to the very top of the dung heap — and the thorough congressional investigation that is obviously required will probably prove that it does — the only question is, do we impeach Obama for: A) treason, B) gross incompetence, C) complicity in Bryan Terry’s murder, or D) all of the above….”

“…The committee and Sen. Charles E. Grassley, Iowa Republican, want to know the genesis of ATF’s “Project Gunrunner” where straw buyers were intentionally allowed to make illegal gun purchases in the United States and smuggle the items into Mexico. ATF wanted to follow the guns to the cartel leadership, but this usually meant finding the guns after they had been used in a crime. Gun-store owners suspicious about certain sales were apparently told by the feds to proceed.
The Obama administration’s position in effect is that nobody can investigate the Justice Department – not even Congress. The public is supposed to believe an internal review will make an honest determination of whether the gunrunning scheme was a good idea or not. Instead of providing transparency, the White House is exploiting the Mexican gun issue for political purposes….”

Did President Barack Obama Authorize Gun Running into Mexico?
Submitted by may on September 5, 2011 – 12:29am
Questions about President Barack Obama just do not seem to get resolved and go away. The question now arises if Obama and his Attorney General Eric Holder will be implicated in potential criminal activity in Operation Fast and Furious. It they are, will they be able to extricate themselves?
Hearings have taken place in our Capitol on Operation Fast and Furious. It appears that a part of this Operation included efforts by the Obama Administration to allow more than 1,000 guns to be illegally smuggled into Mexico?
Was it the intent of the Obama Administration to escalate gun violence caused by the Mexican drug cartels, to then trace the guns used in the violence to gun shops in the United States, and ultimately to use this information as an excuse to infringe on legal gun sales and constitutionally guaranteed gun ownership in the United States?
Some who have been involved with Operation Fast and Furious have been forced to resign and others have been reassigned to other jobs. This has not satisfied Representative Darrell Issa, who led the congressional investigation into this matter.
“While the reckless disregard for safety that took place in Operation Fast and Furious certainly merits changes within the Department of Justice, the Oversight and Government Reform Committee will continue its investigation to ensure that blame isn’t offloaded on just a few individuals for a matter that involved much higher levels of the Justice Department,” Issa said in a statement. “There are still many questions to be answered about what happened in Operation Fast and Furious and who else bears responsibility, but these changes are warranted and offer an opportunity for the Justice Department to explain the role other officials and offices played in the infamous efforts to allow weapons to flow to Mexican drug cartels. I also remain very concerned by Acting Director Melson’s statement that the Department of Justice is managing its response in a manner intended to protect its political appointees. Senator Grassley and I will continue to press the Department of Justice for answers in order to ensure that a reckless effort like Fast and Furious does not take place again.”
The implications of President Obama remain yet unclear in this matter. The Heritage Foundation wrote,
Someone from FB is preventing me from printing this:
Meanwhile, the White House has said little about Fast and Furious. In June, President Obama said in a press conference: “My Attorney General has made clear that he wouldn’t have ordered gun running into Mexico. . . That would not be an appropriate step by the ATF.” He then deflected further questions by citing an “ongoing investigation.” And press secretary Jay Carney previously said that the President “did not know about or authorize this operation.” But as Heritage’s Rory Cooper wrote, “If that’s the case, how could neither he nor Attorney General Eric Holder not know about an operation that everyone else at the Department of Justice seemed to be actively involved in, including the Assistant Attorney General, U.S. Attorney and head of the ATF?”
And if the White House has been silent, so has the media. It has been 57 days since the press has questioned the White House on the matter, when ABC’s Jake Tapper peppered press secretary Jay Carney on the issue, asking why the public knows so little about the story, what the Administration is doing to get to the bottom of it, whether the acting head of ATF would go to Capitol Hill to testify on the subject, whether it is something the White House is worried about, and if the President [is] upset about it. Carney’s reply: He referred Tapper to the Department of Justice and remarked, “I think you could assume that the President takes this very seriously.”
The President should take it seriously. And so should the American people. The ATF sold guns to criminals in Mexico, a life has been taken, and crimes have been committed with the weapons that were trafficked by the federal government. And yet, shockingly, questions remain under the Administration that called itself “the most transparent in history.” It’s time for more answers.
Will the trail lead all the way to the Oval Office? If it does, what are the implications? Gun running for the purpose of putting guns into the hands of criminals is a “high” crime that injures our country, which according to our Constitution is an impeachable offense.
“The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”
Article II. Section 4. The Constitution of the United States
Would the Democrats use evidence gathered against President Barack Obama to conveniently remove Obama from Office in order to run another candidate in 2012?
THIS WHOLE THING IS CERTAINLY ANOTHER OBAMA/CIA FABRICATION. TOO many imposibilities and LIES!! and it covers OBAMA (again) as well!

FBI Insider: Obama Administration Likely Manufactured Dubious Terror Plot
No information about plot exists within FBI channels
Paul Joseph Watson
http://www.infowars.com
http://www.prisonplanet.tv/news/
Wednesday, October 13, 2011
Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Shaffer says that an FBI insider told him the dubious terror plot to assassinate a Saudi ambassador which has been blamed on Iran was likely manufactured by the Obama administration, because no information about the plot even exists within FBI channels.
The plot, an assassination attempt against Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, Adel al-Jubeir, was pinned on an Iranian-American used-car salesman from Texas and subsequently linked by the Obama administration to a wider conspiracy controlled by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.
According to the administration, used car salesman Mansour J. Arbabsiar tried to hire assassins from a Mexican drug gang to carry out the murder, but the head of the drug gang turned out to be a DEA agent posing as a Mexican Los Zetas gangster. The story has all the hallmarks of classic FBI entrapment tactics that have characterized almost every major terror bust in recent times.
Having personally interrogated Iranians, Shaffer doubted the fact that members of the elite Quds Force would risk carrying out an assassination in the United States when it would be far easier to conduct such a plot in the middle east.
“It does not smell correctly,” Shaffer told Fox Business host Andrew Napolitano, adding that it was doubtful a successful used car salesman who has been part of the community for 15 years would suddenly become embroiled in an international assassination plot.
Asked by Napolitano if Arbabsiar was the victim of another FBI sting, Shaffer responded, “I think that’s part of it.”
“The FBI’s had a record lately and I did talk to one of my inside guys and he is saying he thinks the same thing, you know why, because he can’t find any real information and he’s got a clearance — so that tells him that there’s something going on that’s extraordinary by the fact that he’s an inside investigator, knows what’s going on and yet, I’m gonna quote here, ‘There’s nothing on this within the DOJ beyond what they’ve talked about publicly’ — which means to him that there’s something very wrong with it,” said Shaffer.
Even the New York Times is now reporting that the dubious nature of the plot has caused “a wave of puzzlement and skepticism from some foreign leaders and outside experts.”
The military-industrial complex has long been searching for a pretext that could be used to justify military strikes against Iran.
In a 2009 report entitled “Which Path to Persia?”, the elitist Brookings Institution wrote, “It would be far more preferable if the United States could cite an Iranian provocation as justification for the airstrikes before launching them. Clearly, the more outrageous, the more deadly, and the more unprovoked the Iranian action, the better off the United States would be.”
The dubious plot has been instantly seized upon by the likes of Hillary Clinton and John Kerry to push for Iran to be further isolated by the international community. Kerry’s comments were perhaps the most bellicose, telling reporters yesterday, “I don’t think anything should be taken off the table at this point in time.”
It has also served as a useful distraction for Attorney General Eric Holder, who is currently under investigation for his role in the infamous Fast and Furious program, which saw the federal government deliver thousands of military-grade weapons to leaders of Mexican drug gangs.
“That the current “alleged” plot pinned on Iran revolves around yet another undercover federal agency conducting a long-term sting operation defies belief,” writes Tony Cartalucci. “That we are expected to believe one of Iran’s most elite military forces left such a sensitive, potentially war-starting operation to a used-car salesman and a drug gang reported in the papers daily for its involvement with US government agencies (and who turns out to actually be undercover DEA agents) is so ridiculous it can only be “made up” as Secretary Clinton puts it. More accurately, it is the result of an impotent US intelligence community incapable of contriving anything more convincing in the face of an ever awakening American public, to bolster its morally destitute agenda. The cartoonish nature of the plot and the arms’ length even its proponents treat it with to maintain plausible deniability is indicative of a dangerously out of control ruling elite and an utterly incompetent, criminally insane government.”

They’ve known about this since June.. Now they bring it up? You can bet they have something up their fucking sleeve…
FBI and DEA agents have disrupted a plot to commit a “significant terrorist act in the United States” tied to Iran, federal officials told ABC News today.
The officials said the plot included the assassination of the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States, Adel Al-Jubeir, with a bomb and subsequent bomb attacks on the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Washington, D.C. Bombings of the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Buenos Aires, Argentina, were also discussed, according to the U.S. officials.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said in an announcement today that the plan was “conceived, sponsored and was directed from Iran” by a faction of the government and called it a “flagrant” violation of U.S. and international law.
“The U.S. is committed to holding Iran accountable for its actions,” Holder said.

Building a Pretext to Target Iran

His Excellency Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir Saudi Ambassador to the United States
by Ismael Salami
In a ‘United against Iran Campaign,’ the US government has accused Tehran of orchestrating an assassination plot against the Saudi envoy in Washington, a move which is to be seen as part of US stratagem to carry on with its plan of demonizing and isolating the Islamic Republic of Iran.
US Vice President Joe Biden said on “The Early Show” on Wednesday that “It’s critically important that we unite the world in the isolation of and dealing with the Iranians. That’s the surest way to be able to get results.”
Obviously, the US officials will use the fabricated occasion to press for new international sanctions as they say the Iranian agents have sought to hire a purported member of a Mexican drug cartel to assassinate the Saudi envoy on American soil.
Regardless of the impertinence and hollowness of the claim, one should not disregard the influence of the powerful Zionist lobby in the new mudslinging plan which is, as Iran Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani puts it, a ‘tactless and childish game.”
To add more fuel to Iranophobia, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called on other countries to work together against what is becoming a clearer and clearer threat” from Iran and said, “This really, in the minds of many diplomats and government officials, crosses a line that Iran needs to be held to account for.”
Washington went on labeling spree again and called Iran “the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.”
There is a well-grounded speculation that the new move is meant to stir up dissension in the region so that the US may bolster its waning influence among the Middle Eastern countries as Iran wields a great amount of political muscle in the region. In other words, the US will then be in a position to fish in troubled waters.
In concerted efforts with Israel, Washington has a long history of covert operations in Iran including cyber-terrorism, commercial sabotage and targeted assassinations. A notable instance of such operations is a computer worm known as Stuxnet which has hit the Iranian nuclear facilities, categorically a deliberate attempt by the US government in trying to destroy what Iranian scientists have reaped during years. The worm was reportedly tested in Israel in the notorious nuclear arsenal Dimona in a joint Israeli-American effort (The New York Times January 15, 2011). Ironically, Dimona which has been used a testing ground for the worm, houses over 300 nuclear warheads, and was kept hidden for years until Mordechai Vanunu, a former technician at Dimona, fled to Britain in 1986 and revealed the Israeli nuclear program as well as a top-secret underground facility directly below the installation. Reports say that Israel has at its disposal material for roughly 20 hydrogen bombs and 200 fission bombs. After all, Israel is not a threat despite its secret nuclear warheads and irresponsible behavior towards the Palestinians as it is a fawning ally of the USA.
Apart from sabotaging the nuclear program in Iran, Washington has shamelessly engaged in a series of assassinations against the Iranian nuclear scientists. In July 2011, a university student named Daryoush Rezaei, 35, was shot down while his wife sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital. In 2010, Massoud Ali Mohammadi, a nuclear scientist, was killed by a remote-controlled bomb in Tehran. On November 29, 2010, two other scientists were targeted by bombs that hit their cars in the capital. The assailants who were on motorcycles had stuck magnetized bombs to the victims’ cars. Professor Majid Shahriari was killed on the spot, but Dr. Fereydoun Abbasi and his wife sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital. A report carried by The Jerusalem Post citing French Weekly Le Canard enchaine revealed that Mossad had conducted the assassinations “with the help of the CIA and MI6.”
According to intelligence sources, the assassinations were part of Joint US-Israeli plots meant to sabotage Iran’s nuclear program. Also, an article published in the Portuguese-language Weekly, The Expresso revealed that high-ranking Mossad officials gathered at the spy agency’s headquarters in northern Tel Aviv, concluding that the killing of Shahriari would be Mossad’s last covert operation under its current director, Meir Dagan. However, the two spy agencies declined to assume any responsibility for the attacks whatsoever.
In the Iowa Republican President Debate in August 2011, Newt Gingrich spurted out his brazen sloganeering against the Islamic republic and when asked about the situation about Libya, he unconsciously let go of his anger and started railing about Iran, saying the nation had “gone on the offensive” against the USA and needed to be confronted. Soon other hawks joined him and former US Gov. Tim Pawlenty spoke venomously in favor of attacking the country and boldly lauded the “good works” of the US government in assassinating Iranian scientists and the “good work” of creating the Stuxnet computer virus. This was how he spilled the beans and it became clear that the USA was behind all those atrocities.
Some pundits believe that the US move will put Iran in the forefront of global hatred. This will never happen as the US and its lapdog Israel have already played similar games about Iran over and over again.
What the US government has done to the Iranian nation is not easy to forget and the support it keeps voicing for Israel is not difficult to digest.
Isn’t it strange that Iran which has long been a victim of terror and assassinations should become a target of threadbare US allegations?
US Schemes Plots to Justify Wars

Wars of aggression unpopular with US Citizens. Iran’s Press TV — which is an anti-Libyan-African-masses media outlet, complains about U.S. threats against Iran
An alleged Iranian plot to kill the Saudi Ambassador to the United States has made headlines.
Why would the Iranian government want to do this? US officials have so far presented relatively little evidence – yet sanctions are looming.
In this edition of Press TV’s News Analysis, the possible reasons for the US to make such an allegation are looked at. Is this a move by the US to divert attention from its problems, such as nationwide protests, among others?
American philosopher and Professor Emeritus of the University of Minnesota, James H. Fetzer, joined PressTV from Madison. The following is an approximate transcription of James H. Fetzer’s comments.
Press TV: I’d like to refer to Justin Raimondo who is the editorial director of the website Antiwar.com. He says: How is it that these two Iranians just happen to meet up with a Mexican drug cartel assassin who just happens to be a long time DEA informant?
I mean is there any response to this question that’s posed by this editorial director, James Fetzer?
James Fetzer: Everything that has been said so far is completely accurate. We appear to be witnessing the resurrection of Operation Northwards in which American operatives would commit crimes like assassinations and bombings and blame them on Fidel Castro in order to justify an attack on Cuba.
Hillary Clinton has said that this idea of contacting a Mexican crime syndicate killer to bring this about is so unbelievable; no one could make it up. But the fact is it’s a transparently fabricated event.
Not only does Iran have no motive whatsoever but if Iran were to perpetrate such an act it would do so in a stealthy manner. It wouldn’t rely on someone like a drug killer whose confidence could not be assured; besides, he’s in Mexico, this is supposed to take place in Washington and the reasons appear to be very obvious.
Number one: to distract from the public uprisings. But number two: the Attorney General Eric Holder has been on the hot seat, because of his blunders in relations to vast and furious where the United States wound up giving large quantities of military weapons to these very drug lords.
And then in the third place of course it exacerbates tension in the Middle East which means that this is being promoted by the allies of Israel in the United States, the Neo-cons. The situation is completely ridiculous and no one who knows anything about intelligence matters would take it seriously.
Press TV: James Fetzer, is the United States really so desperate to turn attention away from its domestic policies regarding these protest movements that they had to go to this extreme?
Tell us whether it is the case if we put it in that context, or is it that, I think Christopher Walker alluded that perhaps there’s a connection with Saudi Arabia placing pressure on the US since relations obviously are not at its best with Iran?
James Fetzer: I think this case illustrates the maxim that in Washington the bigger the liar, the further you go. Eric Holder has been on the hot seat for this fast and furious business.
This isn’t another attempt to make him look good; to salvage his reputation just as the use of troops in Pakistan in the feigned attack on the compound to kill a man who died on December 15, 2001, was staged to elevate Obama’s poll standings, reduce attention to his birth certificate issue and justify having those troops there, where we’re using predator drones to kill a 140 innocent civilians for every target.
It’s embarrassing to say but listening to Collin Powel reminded that not only did we find no weapons of mass destruction but even George Bush himself would eventually admit Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11.
Independent investigations by the Pentagon and the Senate established that Iraq had not been in collusion with Al-Qaida and even our own FBI would eventually admit that they had no hard evidence that tied Osama Bin Laden to 9/11.
I’m sorry to say that this kind of fakery and pseudo investigation is disgracing the United States and if Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden and Barack Obama are standing behind it then they’re going to be candidates to replace the Three Stooges.

Policy Wonk Plays Dumb Over Role in Iranian Escalation.

October 15, 2011 – Kenneth Pollack helped literally co-author the blueprints for America’s current policy toward Iran. Titled, “Which Path to Persia?” and published in 2009 for the Fortune 500-funded Brookings Institution,
Click to access 06_iran_strategy.pdf
much of what was covered in the report had already gone operational before it hit the press. This included training, arming, and supporting terrorists within Iran, sanctions, US-funded uprisings, and covert attempts to provoke Iran into war.
http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/07/07/080707fa_fact_hersh
While pundits in the media and politicians behind their podiums talk about “extending hands,” “carrots and sticks,” and other trite, and ultimately contrived policies the US is supposedly pursuing in regards to Iran, there is in reality only Brookings’ plan – and it leads only to war.
Recently, Pollack penned a column for the Daily Beast titled, “Iran’s Covert War Against the United States.”
http://www.brookings.edu/opinions/2011/1011_iran_pollack.aspx
In it, Pollack, addressing a readership almost assuredly ignorant of his work on “Which Path to Persia?,” claims that Iran appears to be irrationally wandering down a misguided path, waging what might be a “covert war” against America, highlighted by the contrived “Iran terror plot” targeting a Saudi ambassador.
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/10/feds-foil-own-saudi-assassination-plot.html
Pollack, a former analyst for the CIA,
http://www.brookings.edu/experts/pollackk.aspx
seems to humor the recent allegations against Iran as plausible despite his own cautionary words regarding jumping to conclusions and despite the growing factual basis that exists to entirely dismiss the plot. Additionally, Pollack’s feigned astonishment over why Iran has been taking a tougher stance against the US recently is a case study in duplicity, as he was one of the chief architects of the various provocations Washington has used to provoke Iran into such a stance. Pollack’s disingenuous editorial does however lend us some insight into the current mindset of the “Which Path to Perisa?” co-authors, and ultimately into the mindset of those for whom the report was prepared for and who are eager for war.
“Which Path to Persia?” Brookings Institution 2009 .pdf

To understand American policy toward Iran, one must understand who the authors are of such policy and what their motivations are. The Brookings Institution itself was created by and for the corporate-financier elite. It is a policy think-tank that represents the collective interests of the big oil corporations, banks, and military contractors that fund it. Quite obviously then, policy toward Iran, or any nation for that matter, from within the halls of the Brookings Institution will revolve around expanding the global financial, social, political, and military hegemony of its corporate sponsors.
Iran is a nation of 70 million, has a developed infrastructure, as well as a tremendous wealth in natural resources, including oil and natural gas. A Western dominated banking system lording over 70 million people, telecommunications companies supplying services to this vast population, and the immense consumerist troughs that could be laid out before these people alone serves as a compelling incentive to attempt to domineer Iran. War against such a nation would be a trillion dollar endeavor, utterly bankrupting the American people, but enriching the military industrial complex beyond imagination. Of course, construction firms such as war-profiteering Halliburton and Bechtel would make fortunes rebuilding amidst the destruction of such a vast nation – as untold of billions have already been made by these same corporations in Iraq, a nation with but a fraction of the land area and population of Iran. Iran’s oil fields flowing once again into the tankers, pipelines, and coffers of Anglo-American oil companies also serves as an attractive incentive, as do the geopolitical implications.
China would be essentially dependent entirely on oil controlled by the Wall Street-London “international order,” as would all nations. The development of the modern nation-state is dependent on energy. By controlling access to energy, one controls the development of nations. While many analysts suggest the continental United States contains enough energy to meet America’s needs for the foreseeable future, tapping into this supply and abandoning holdings overseas would catapult the developing world into direct competition with America on almost every front. It would also allow nation-states worldwide to defend themselves against what has essentially been a free reign of financial piracy perpetrated by the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and other Western contrived “international institutions” used to manipulate and exploit the planet.
Image: Just some of Brookings Institution’s corporate & institutional financial sponsors. For the full list please see Brookings’ 2010 annual report (page 19 of .pdf).
Click to access 2010_complete.pdf
It should be noted that many of the managing directors, chairmen, and CEOs of these corporations also populate Brookings’ Board of Directors producing a conflict of interests of monstrous proportions. Boycotting these corporations is an absolute necessity for anyone seriously interested in stopping the global corporate-financier elite’s agenda. (click image to enlarge)
….
With this in mind, it is quite clear why the corporate-financier interests that fund Brookings have thrown their support behind executing the recommendations made in “Which Path to Persia?” and continue marching the United States ever closer to war with Iran. The report itself, most likely never intended to reach the American public on a large scale, and using language and length inaccessible to the average “bread and circus” crowds, fully acknowledges that Iran’s leadership may be aggressive, but not reckless. The report also notes that Iran would use its nuclear weapons only as an absolute last resort, considering American and even Israeli nuclear deterrence capabilities. Even weapons ending up in the hands of non-state actors is considered highly unlikely by the report.
Similar reports out of the RAND corporation
http://www.rand.org/pubs/conf_proceedings/CF132/index2.html
note that Iran has had chemical weapons in its inventory for decades, and other reports from RAND
Click to access RAND_MG781.pdf
describe the strict control elite military units exercise over these weapons, making it unlikely they would end up in the hands of “terrorists.” The fact that Iran’s extensive chemical weapon stockpile has yet to be disseminated into the hands of non-state actors, along with the fact that these same elite units would in turn handle any Iranian nuclear weapons, lends further evidence to this conclusion.
Brookings notes on pages 24 and 25 of the report, that the real threat is not the deployment of these weapons, but rather the deterrence they present, allowing Iran to counter US influence in the region without the fear of an American invasion. In other words, the playing field would become level and America may be forced to recognize Iran’s national sovereignty in regards to its own regional interests. The report also acknowledges on multiple occasions that Iran is not looking to provoke the West, and that the West, or Israel would have to proactively work to provoke Iran into war instead.
In one breathtaking quote, the Brookings report states in regards to initiating a large scale airstrike against Iran:
“…it would be far more preferable if the United States could cite an Iranian provocation as justification for the airstrikes before launching them. Clearly, the more outrageous, the more deadly, and the more unprovoked the Iranian action, the better off the United States would be. Of course, it would be very difficult for the United States to goad Iran into such a provocation without the rest of the world recognizing this game, which would then undermine it. (One method that would have some possibility of success would be to ratchet up covert regime change efforts in the hope that Tehran would retaliate overtly, or even semi-overtly, which could then be portrayed as an unprovoked act of Iranian aggression.)”
This quote alone, not to mention the entire content of this report, compiled by some of America’s most prolific policy makers and funded by America’s largest corporations and banks, demonstratively executed over the past several years, makes everything that follows regarding the sanctions, covert military operations, US-funded uprisings, US-funded terrorism via the MEK (Mujahedin-e Khalq),
http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/07/07/080707fa_fact_hersh
and now these most recent, entirely contrived allegations regarding a supposed “bombing plot,” all unjustified acts of war on America’s behalf. The reckless self-serving nature of this gambit puts in danger the lives of hundreds of millions of people as these craven megalomaniacs edge us ever closer to war with Iran.
Pollack, in his Daily Beast op-ed, seems to almost relish the converging paths bringing us closer to war. While he fills his editorial with disclaimers regarding the believability of the recent Iranian plot allegations, his infinite duplicity is exhibited by omitting the role he has played in developing policy designed to purposefully provoke a war with Iran it had actively sought to avoid. Should readers know this, they would not only dismiss him as a meddling, treasonous, warmonger, but dismiss the latest allegations against Iran as yet another contrived attempt to stoke the fires of war.
Readers need to take a good look at Brookings’ sponsors. These are the people conspiring to send your sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers off to war. These are the people that intend to bleed you dry financially as you pay them to wage a war you neither want nor will benefit from. These are the ones that will ultimately profit while both America and Iran suffers immeasurably.
These corporations need to be put out of business, and instead of wringing our hands and hoping for salvation from our clearly compromised, corporate-fascist government, we can begin today by boycotting these corporations and putting our money instead into local businesses, entrepreneurship, and solutions that benefit we the people. Even just beginning to boycott them,
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/04/destroy-globalists.html
cutting back in our daily life and working toward the eventual goal of complete local self-sufficiency
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/03/globalists-worst-nightmare.html
will scale down both the reach and ambitions of these corporations. It will also spur change within, as sagging profits motivate individuals within these corporations to abandon those advocating exploitative, parasitic agendas and business models.
We can speak up to expose the fraud, speak out to stop the war, but it is essential, above all, to begin changing the balance of power
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/09/sanctions-cut-globalists-off-from.html
that has allowed for our nation to be led to the edge of such a precipice in the first place. #

MORE FROM Tony Cartalucci :
Corporate-Fascists Clamor for Iran War
Posted: 2011/10/16
From: Source http://mathaba.net/news/?x=629009
Unelected corporate-funded policy makers constitute the greatest threat to US national security.
by Tony Cartalucci
October 16, 2011 – While US politicians grapple over the credibility of using the US DEA’s bomb plot to assassinate a Saudi ambassador
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/10/feds-foil-own-saudi-assassination-plot.html
as a pretext to escalate tensions with Iran, America’s unelected, corporate-funded policy makers have already announced their long, foregone conclusion. The DEA’s entrapment case is decidedly to be used as a pretext for war with Iran.
The Foreign Policy Institute (FPI), just one such unelected, corporate-funded think tank, has released two statements calling on President Obama to use force against Iran. FPI director William Kristol
http://www.foreignpolicyi.org/content/it%E2%80%99s-time-united-states-speak-iran-language-it-understands-force-says-fpi-director-william-kristol
states:
“It’s long since been time for the United States to speak to this regime in the language it understands—force.
And now we have an engraved invitation to do so. The plot to kill the Saudi ambassador was a lemon. Statesmanship involves turning lemons into lemonade.
So we can stop talking. Instead, we can follow the rat lines in Iraq and Afghanistan back to their sources, and destroy them. We can strike at the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and weaken them. And we can hit the regime’s nuclear weapons program, and set it back.”
Likewise, FPI’s executive director Jamie Fly claims,
http://www.foreignpolicyi.org/content/more-diplomacy-not-adequate-response-iranian-assassination-plot-says-fpi-jamie-fly?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
in tandem with Kristol’s unqualified, corporate-funded opinion, “It is time to take military action against the Iranian government elements that support terrorism and its nuclear program. More diplomacy is not an adequate response.”
Image: Just a sampling of Wall Street-London corporate-funded think tanks. Those that believe America’s policy is created within the offices of our elected legislatures will be sadly disappointed to know that it is in fact produced by these unelected, nebulous private institutions. Despite the different logos and rhetoric wielded by each of these institutions, they consist of the same members and same corporate-financier sponsors and merely specialize in executing different aspects of the corporate-financier agenda. For more information, please see “Naming Names.” (click on image to enlarge)
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/03/naming-names-your-real-government.html
….
Ironically, Jamie Fly, who believes it is time to take “military action” against Iran for supporting terrorism, is a signatory of a letter imploring House Republicans
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/06/pnac-reborn-calling-for-greater-libyan.html
to support the US war in Libya where NATO forces are literally handing an entire nation over to rebels led by the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, listed by both the US and British government as a foreign terrorist organization, and is confirmed to have fought and killed US and British troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/09/west-point-terror-center-confirms-al.html
It should also be noted, that fellow policy makers at the Brookings Institute proposed that the US arm, train, and even go as far as de-list as a terrorist organization, MEK (Mujahedin-e Khalq), in covert efforts to wage war against Tehran. MEK is acknowledged by Brookings to not only be a bona fide terrorist organization, but also has American civilian and military blood on its hands.
Image: Know your enemy. It is not turban-wearing cave dwellers that threaten America. It is unelected, corporate policy pimps like those found lurking within the halls of the Foreign Policy Initiative.
http://www.foreignpolicyi.org/about/staff
They seek to mislead Americans into supporting an agenda that literally bleeds them to death while they and their corporate-financier sponsors continue to consolidate both wealth and power on a global scale. (click on image to enlarge)
….
It is safe to say that Jamie Fly, William Kristol, and the rest of the policy wonks populating FPI and similar corporate-funded think tanks harbor less than genuine “concerns” regarding “terrorism,” – concerns which are voiced purely for public consumption.
As reported previously,
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/10/us-policy-toward-iran-one-way-ticket-to.html
the official, though rarely spoken about policy toward Iran is one of purposefully provoking the regime into a war it desperately wants to avoid. The Brookings Institution, like FPI, is a corporate-funded think tank full of unelected policy makers who literally steer America’s destiny. In its report “Which Path to Persia?”
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/02/brookings-which-path-to-persia.html
it is clearly stated that not only does Iran want to avoid war, but any potential aspirations to acquire nuclear weapons are driven only by a desire to defend its sovereignty, not use unilaterally against its neighbors nor to proliferate such weapons into the hands of non-state actors.
Despite this admission, the Brookings Institution claims that American extraterritorial ambitions across the Middle East cannot be impeded by strong, independent nation-states and spells out a criminal conspiracy to remove such impediments. Such tactic include funding terrorist organizations to wage a covert war against Tehran, funding opposition groups to rise up against the Iranian government, sanctions, and even provoking a war through covert means.
Masking this criminal conspiracy is a narrative repeated ad naseum by the corporate media, literally sponsored and steered by the same corporations and banks that fund the above mentioned think tanks. The American people are presented with a belligerent, irrational enemy, so entirely fictitious it challenges the archetypes produced by Hollywood. Should Americans know the truth about America’s real policy regarding Iran, war not only would not take place – those who have pushed so hard to shed American treasure and blood in Iran would be ferreted out as criminals and permanetnly removed from society.
US foreign and domestic policy is not produced by our legislatures as we are meant to believe. John Kerry and John McCain don’t sit behind their desks twelve hours a day penning the 1,000 page policy papers they present to Congress to be rubber stamped. President Obama is not sitting in the Oval Office churning out reams of policy papers either. It is the unelected, corporate-funded policy think tanks and their army of policy makers, lawyers, scribes, and media personalities the produce, promote, and ram through an agenda that serves not the American people, but the corporate-financier interests that fund their work.
While many Americans scratch their heads at what appears to be a profound mystery – a Democratic president carrying the torch of a Neo-Conservative Republican’s global war, not only maintaining all previous wars, but expanding the battlefront – in reality this linear, continuous policy that is being executed piecemeal by both sides of the American political aisle is the direct result of these corporate-funded think tanks successfully commandeering both political parties.
John Kerry and John McCain’s love for sending Americans to their deaths in foreign nations and spending American tax money to destabilize countries around the world is not an anomalous convergence of some political ideal, but rather the result of absolute, naked corporate fascism overrunning America’s political institutions and co-opting politicians of inferior human character. As in Nazi Germany, this unchecked power, not foreign enemies, presents the gravest risk to national security imaginable. Those that serve this system and fail to speak out against it, and worse yet, willingly collaborate with it, are America’s true enemies and a self-evident threat the American people can no longer afford to tolerate.
Vote out of office any and all public servants that promote extraterritorial meddling, including wars, funding foreign opposition movements, arming foreign militants, and funding foreign propaganda networks. Vote out of office all representatives that peddle 1,000 page pieces of legislation produced by corporate lawyers and their vast array of “think tanks.” And above all, identify and expose the actual corporate-financier interests
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/03/naming-names-your-real-government.html
driving this destructive agenda, then boycott
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/04/destroy-globalists.html
and replace them.
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/03/globalists-worst-nightmare.html
The vast influence and unwarranted power these corporate fascist monopoly men have garnered is a direct result of our apathy, ignorance, and decades of paying into their system with our money, time, energy, and attention.
America is being brought to the precipice of a war neither the American nor the Iranian people want by a cartel of corporate-financier interests that admit the nation of Iran poses to threat to the United States. This is purely a war to enhance US hegemony in the Middle East, not protect the American people and our way of life at home. It is a war that the American people will pay for in both trillions of dollars in public funds, as well as the blood of our soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen. It is up to the American people to end this cycle of parasitic exploitation before it ends America. #

Iran reacts to the U.S.: “Murder is your thing”
Posted: 2011/10/18
From: Source http://www.mathaba.net/news/?x=629035?rss
President Ahmadinejad says the U.S. is seeking to create a new crisis with Iran, accusing it of terrorism.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reacted Sunday to the release by the U.S. government that accused Tehran of sponsoring a terrorist plot in the United States and used the occasion to blame Washington for the frequent bilateral crises.
“The Iranian nation does not need educated articulate plans of murder. Murder is your thing,” said Ahmadinejad, speaking at the Iranian Parliament, The Iranian President’s remarks were reported by the official news agency, IRNA.
The onslaught from the leader responds to U.S. charges that the Islamic Republic would be behind a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington, Adel al-Jubeir. Ahmadinejad said the U.S. is seeking “to create a new crisis every day with Iran, accusing it of terrorism.” For him, the American accusations are merely an attempt to try and stop the development of Iran.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran said in a statement that the U.S. accusations “have no legal basis” and they only seek to “exacerbate tension in the region” in the Middle East and “undermine international security.”
“They unilaterally announce charges against a resident (Iranian) in the United States, without providing documents, and create a media campaign against Iran that has no legal basis,” the Ministry said.
For Iran, Washington should have consulted Tehran about its suspicions. “But the U.S. government ignored the express request of the Islamic Republic which it did, against international conventions,” says the statement.
A reminder that the west, the United States and Israel in particular, have accused Iran of plans to produce nuclear weapons, which Iran completely denies. Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, while Israel has refused to sign the treaty, and is also in possession of a large nuclear stockpile itself, remaining completely unchallenged.
Leaders of those countries have also threatened Iran with military action, stating that “all options are on the table.” Numerous sanctions have also been imposed on Iran, while there are none on Israel.
Iran’s representative to the IAEA, the organization responsible for monitoring compliance made the following statements:
“Iran has repeatedly announced that it opposes nuclear weapons and that all its activities pursue peaceful objectives and are carried out under the IAEA’s full surveillance. As it has been repeatedly proven over the past eight years, claims about Iran’s nuclear arms are baseless,” he said, adding that “the international community has been witnessing such unfounded allegations.”
An IAEA report said, “Iran appears to be working with the agency on parts of its nuclear program as it promised earlier.” Certain misunderstandings over Iran’s nuclear activities have been cleared up, and the inspections on the country’s centrifuge research centers by IAEA have proven that Iran’s nuclear activities are peaceful, the report concludes.
Plot claim meant to cause rift between Iran, S. Arabia: Ahmadinejad

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran, has said that an alleged plot to kill the Saudi ambassador to Washington was fabricated by the U.S. to cause a rift between Tehran and Riyadh, and divert attention from U.S. economic problems.
http://12160.info/forum/topics/plot-claim-meant-to-cause-rift-between-iran-s-arabia-ahmadinejad?xg_source=msg_mes_network
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) – In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera in Tehran on Monday, Ahmadinejad said that anyone who hears the claims “laughs”, but warned the U.S. to be mindful of the allegations it makes.
“We’re not worried about expressing our opposition … The U.S. administration is sorely mistaken. The U.S. administration might want to divert attention from what’s going on inside the U.S.,” he said, speaking through a translator, during an interview broadcast live.
“The economic problems of the U.S. are very serious, and by accusing Iran it’s not going to solve any problem.”
Categorical rejection
Pressed to give a firm answer as to whether or not the U.S. plot allegations carried merit, Ahmadinejad said: “We have categorically rejected this accusation.”
“Terror is for people…who don’t have any logic. The people of Iran are pro-logic,” he said.
Last week U.S. authorities charged that two Iranians were involved in the “plot directed by elements of the Iranian government” to kill the Saudi ambassador as part of a major “terror” attack.
On being told that Susan Rice, the US ambassador to the UN, had told the UN chief that there was strong evidence linking Iran to the murder plot, Ahmadinejad described the UN and its Security Council as undemocratic.
“The Security Council is dominated by the U.S., and the U.S. has been against us for 30 years. The UN is not really the UN because the General Assembly is not the decision-making body. At the UN everything is ruled by a body in which there are five countries,” he said.
U.S. ‘interference’
Ahmadinejad also said the U.S. “terror plot” allegations were constructed on false evidence designed to cause conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran and “create some conflicts and discord” within his country.
Later in the interview, the Iranian president said that Iran and the U.S. were not on a collision course, but that the core of the issue between the two nations is America’s “interference” in the region.
Addressing the U.S., he said: “Keep your interference to yourself” – before clarifying that Iran has “always had respect for the people of the U.S. We love them. We love Americans”.

Iranian President: Hegemons are sharing out Libya

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that the Western powers that launched a military campaign against Libya are now apportioning the country’s extensive reserves among themselves.
Ahmadinejad made the remarks in an address to thousands of well-wishers in the city of Birjand, in the eastern province of South Khorasan, on Tuesday.
“I have it on good authority that they (the hegemonistic powers) are now sharing the reserves and works in Libya in order to plunder the money of the people of the country. They have come to plunder the terrain of Libya, and this is a great danger,” Ahmadinejad stated.
“They made attempts to gain control over Libyan people and their resources and wealth with a piece of paper issued by the discredited Security Council, but they are quite mistaken,” he added.
NATO has completely destroyed Libya, and “by looking at the scene, their objectives become clear for us,” Ahmadinejad said, adding, “Gaining control over Libya and imposing non-revolutionaries and unpopular rulers on the Libyan nation are among those objectives.”
“The hegemonistic powers are seeking to defuse their economic crisis through plundering (other countries’ wealth) and establishing dominance over other countries, and they are now seeking to gain control over Libya’s oil (reserves),” he stated.
He added, “The dominance of outsiders over the country will not allow Libyan people to experience the taste of independence and progress and will prevent them from realizing their historic aspirations.”
Ahmadinejad also addressed NATO leaders and said, “You do not have any place among or any credit in the eyes of nations and you are on the verge of collapse, and such measures will not only not save you but will also precipitate your collapse.”
“Everyone should be vigilant, any decision and measure which would help establish the presence and dominance of outsiders in and over Libya will be against the interests of the Libyan nation and nations who are pursuing a quest for freedom and independence,” he said.
The president added, “The world expects the Libyan nation to stand firm and run their country themselves. The people of Libya could efficiently run their country and do not need the presence of outsiders.”
“God forbid that differences of opinion and minor rivalries rob the Libyan nation of the historic opportunity to achieve dignity, a high status, and glory,” the Iranian president said.
“I believe in the greatness and wisdom of the Libyan nation. And the people of the country will stand fast and will drive out each and every one of NATO forces from their soil,” Ahmadinejad pointed out.
He also said that the great nation of Libya has “broken the back of European colonialism in the entire Libya.”
Commenting on the “death of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi”, Ahmadinejad said, “Some believe that they killed Gaddafi so that he will not be able to say anything, just as what they did to (Al-Qaeda leader Osama) bin Laden.”
If there would have been a court, Gaddafi would have been able to tell the world “with whom he concluded agreements and how certain leaders of European countries received money from him for elections and supported him, things could have changed,” he stated.

A senior Iranian High Security Unveils US document on terrorism

Saeed Jalili, “The US dreams of returning to Iran will not be realized”
The Secretary of the Supreme Council of the Iranian National Security (SNSC) Saeed Jalili, presented Friday one of the 100 documents that Iran has the role of the United States as the main sponsor and support terrorism.
Documentary evidence showing the role of the United States in terrorism, Mr. Jalili said:
“We affirm on the basis of documents substantiating that the United States is the prime suspect, not the main culprit, in violation of human rights.”
“The US dreams to return to Iran will not happen,” he added.
“Today we unveil the evidence and documents proving that the U.S. has officially used their troops against the people of Iran and the region.”
He also said that Iran will officially complain aurprès UN against the United States to terrorism, adding that “Tehran will pursue the U.S. for their murderous terrorism.”
“In addition to what we presented to the UN against the U.S. over the past two years, today we show two sets of documents proving, once again, the role of the United States in promoting and terrorist financing, “said Jalili.
“These documents will be submitted to the Swiss ambassador in Tehran today,” he said.
The Swiss Embassy is hosting the US Interests Section in Iran.
On November 4, marks three important events in Iranian history, including the purchase of the former U.S. embassy in Tehran by Muslim students in 1979 and the exile of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, forced the Shah ousted in 1964.
Since the resumption of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1979, the Iranians celebrated the annual event by holding rallies on the anniversary marking the National Day against “global arrogance.”
Wednesday’s Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said that Iran would authorize the declassification of a hundred documents corroborating explaining the role of Washington in supporting and financing terrorist activities in Iran and the region.
“We have hundreds of documents on the undeniable role of the United States in the direction of terror and terrorists in Iran and the region,” Ayatollah Khamenei said Wednesday, speaking to many students and Iranian university students in the early morning of November 4.
“In de-classifying these documents, we dishonor the United States and those who claim to be defenders of human rights and the fight against terrorism in the eyes of world public opinion,” he added.
Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated that Tehran has hands full an abundance of evidence and the evidence and documents proving the US terrorist nature.
The remarks of the supreme leader of Iran, came after the US, a new plot against Iran, have alleged that Tehran wanted to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington.
On 11 October 2011, U.S. officials suspected the “Qods Forces” of the body of the Revolutionary Guards in Iran (CGR) of plotting to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington by recruiting, for $ 1.5 million, murderers of a Mexican drug cartel.
A car salesman Iranian-American accused of involvement in the conspiracy pleaded not guilty in a New York court last week.
Iran has strongly denied any involvement, calling the allegations “groundless scenario.”
Tehran said that the statement is intended to tarnish its “good relationship” with Saudi Arabia and also distract the attention of the world events of anti-capitalist protests in the United States.

The US has given a green signal to Israel and its Gulf partners to attack Iran. According to Somali Pirates, “There are unusual movements of US Navy in the Persian Gulf, they are now closer to Iran.”
Reports indicate that Iranian president Ahmadinejad requested the US for talks which is not working this time. The US and Israeli military are on alert and can attack Iran anytime.
The US war history shows deficiencies in its defense system which means [Iran Must Act Now! by attacking the Enemy anywhere it can because US will put the entire world on its side to attack a single country], otherwise Iran will become a second Iraq.
Iran Plans to Sue US for Terrorist Threats

Parliamentary sources informed that Iran’s legislature plans to file a complaint against the US at the UN Security Council to demand a prosecution and trial of Washington officials for their open call for terror attacks on Islamic Republic officials.
“The Iranian nation’s live and telling documents prove that the US administration as a symbol of terrorism in the world has killed millions of people and is a threat to humanity,” Vice-Speaker of the Parliament’s Security Committee Vali Esmayeeli told FNA on Sunday.
In addition to documents on the US attacks on Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Bosnia and Herzegovina, inciting and sponsoring Saddam in the invasion of Iran and its support for the Zionist regime to occupy the Palestinian territories, Tehran has many more documents proving that Washington has direct or indirect ties and links with terrorists all around the world, he mentioned.
Esmayeeli called on all independent countries of the world to accompany Iran in condemning the United States’ terrorist activities at the UN.
The Iranian lawmaker’s remarks came two days after Iran’s top security official Saeed Jalili released a number of documents detailing US involvement in acts of terror against the Islamic Republic.
Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili made the revelations on US terror moves against Iran on Friday during a ceremony marking the takeover anniversary of the US embassy in Tehran by Iranian students in 1979.
Addressing hundreds of thousands of ralliers attending the November 4th rallies in Tehran, Jalili said Tehran has two large collections of such documents which will be given to Ban Ki-moon to be presented to all the UN member states.
“Iran’s ambassador to the UN will in a formal letter ask the UN Secretary-General to provide other countries with the documents on the United States’ management and financial backup for terrorists and put the judicial prosecution of the US administration on (the UN) agenda based on conventions,” Jalili said.
“The United States has formally used its forces for terror and sabotage against Iran and other countries and as the Supreme Leader has said we have documents to discredit the United States.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei first announced on Wednesday that Iran planned to release a hundred corroborative documents substantiating Washington’s role in supporting and sponsoring terrorist activities in Iran and the region.
“We have a hundred unbeatable documents on the US role in directing terror and terrorists in Iran and the region,” Ayatollah Khamenei said on Wednesday, addressing a large number of Iranian school and university students on the threshold of November the 4 which marks the takeover of the former US embassy in Tehran by Muslim students following the late Imam Khomeini’s line in 1979.
“By releasing these documents, we will dishonor the US and those who claim to be the advocates of human rights and campaign against terrorism among the world public opinion,” he added.
The remarks by the Iranian Supreme Leader came after the US in a new plot against Iran alleged that Tehran wanted to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington.
On October 11, US officials alleged Iran’s Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) plotted to kill the Saudi ambassador to Washington by hiring assassins from a Mexican drug cartel for $1.5 million.
An Iranian-American car salesman accused of involvement in the plot pleaded not guilty in a New York court last week.
Iran has strongly denied involvement, describing the allegations as “baseless scenario”.
Tehran said the claim meant to tarnish its “good relations” with Saudi Arabia and also distract the world attention from anti-capitalism protests in the US. #

Iran says arrests 12 CIA agents amid reports of compromised U.S. ring
Comment by top Iranian official comes as Intelligence Online says U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers arrives in Beirut to probe reported exposure of U.S. intel squad in Lebanon.
By Yossi Melman
An Iranian official disclosed new details Thursday concerning the reporting exposure of a U.S. spy ring in the Islamic Republic, saying that Tehran arrested 12 CIA agents.
Iran’s claims that it caught U.S. spies.
Parliamentarian Parviz Sorouri, who sits on the powerful committee of foreign policy and national security, claimed that the arrested agents planned to strike at Iranian interests with the aid of Israel.
Sorouri said the spy network aimed at damaging Iran in the security, military and nuclear sectors.
The Iranian official’s comments come after current and former U.S. officials said on Monday that dozens of spies working for the CIA were captured recently in Lebanon and Iran, as well as after Iran’s claim earlier this year that it had intercepted a major spy ring.
Following the report of a compromised CIA ring in Lebanon, the French intelligence newsletter Intelligence Online indicated in its latest issue that U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers, a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, arrived recently in Beirut to probe the affair.
According to Intelligence Online, all CIA officers operating the Beirut station were transferred to Cyprus for security reasons and for further investigations.

Report: Dozens of U.S. spies captured in Lebanon and Iran
Current and former U.S. officials concede that CIA suffered difficult blow; sources say Lebanon informants were compromised by meeting CIA agents at a Beirut Pizza Hut.

Dozens of spies working for the CIA were captured recently in Lebanon and Iran, current and former U.S. officials told The Associated Press and ABC News on Monday.
The CIA’s operations in Lebanon have been badly damaged after Hezbollah identified and captured a number of the U.S. spies, officials told The Associated Press.
In photo released by Lebanon army, a spying system camouflaged to look like a rock is seen after it was discovered by the Lebanese army near the southern city of Tyre on March 17, 2011.

Hezbollah’s longtime leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, boasted on television in June that he had rooted out at least two CIA spies who had infiltrated the ranks of Hezbollah, which the U.S. considers a terrorist group closely allied with Iran. Though the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon officially denied the accusation, current and former officials concede that it happened and the damage has spread even further.
According to a report by ABC News, there were two distinct espionage rings targeting Iran and Hezbollah in which spies were recruited by the CIA.
Current and former U.S. officials said the two different spy rings were discovered separately but both caused a significant setback in U.S. efforts to track Iran’s nuclear activities and Hezbollah actions against Israel.
ABC reported that according to U.S. officials, the CIA used the codeword “Pizza” when discussing where to meet with the informants.
Other former officials said CIA case officers met several Lebanese informants at a local Beirut Pizza Hut branch, which helped Hezbollah identify the spies helping the CIA.
U.S. officials, however, deny any allegations that their agents were compromised at Pizza Hut, ABC reported.
In recent months, CIA officials have secretly been scrambling to protect their remaining spies — foreign assets or agents working for the agency — before Hezbollah can find them.
To be sure, some deaths are to be expected in shadowy spy wars. It’s an extremely risky business and people get killed. But the damage to the agency’s spy network in Lebanon has been greater than usual, several former and current U.S. officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about security matters.
The Lebanon crisis is the latest mishap involving CIA counterintelligence, the undermining or manipulating of the enemy’s ability to gather information. Former CIA officials have said that once-essential skill has been eroded as the agency shifted from outmaneuvering rival spy agencies to fighting terrorists. In the rush for immediate results, former officers say, tradecraft has suffered.
The most recent high-profile example was the suicide bomber who posed as an informant and killed seven CIA employees and wounded six others in Khost, Afghanistan in December 2009.
Last year, then-CIA director Leon Panetta said the agency had to maintain “a greater awareness of counterintelligence.” But eight months later, Nasrallah let the world know he had bested the CIA, demonstrating that the agency still struggles with this critical aspect of spying and sending a message to those who would betray Hezbollah.
The CIA was well aware the spies were vulnerable in Lebanon. CIA officials were warned, including the chief of the unit that supervises Hezbollah operations from CIA headquarters in Langley, Va., and the head of counterintelligence. It remains unclear whether anyone has been or will be held accountable in the wake of this counterintelligence disaster or whether the incident will affect the CIA’s ability to recruit assets in Lebanon.
In response to AP’s questions about what happened in Lebanon, a U.S. official said Hezbollah is recognized as a complicated enemy responsible for killing more Americans than any other terrorist group before September 2001. The agency does not underestimate the organization, the official said.
The CIA’s toughest adversaries, like Hezbollah and Iran, have for years been improving their ability to hunt spies, relying on patience and guile to exploit counterintelligence holes.
In 2007, for instance, when Ali-Reza Asgari, a brigadier general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps of Iran, disappeared in Turkey, it was assumed that he was either killed or defected. In response, the Iranian government began a painstaking review of foreign travel by its citizens, particularly to places like Turkey where Iranians don’t need a visa and could meet with foreign intelligence services.
It didn’t take long, a Western intelligence official told the AP, before the U.S., Britain and Israel began losing contact with some of their Iranian spies.
The State Department last year described Hezbollah as “the most technically capable terrorist group in the world,” and the Defense Department estimates it receives between $100 million and $200 million per year in funding from Iran.
Backed by Iran, Hezbollah has built a professional counterintelligence apparatus that Nasrallah — whom the U.S. government designated an international terrorist a decade ago — proudly describes as the “spy combat unit.” U.S. intelligence officials believe the unit, which is considered formidable and ruthless, went operational in about 2004.
Using the latest commercial software, Nasrallah’s spy-hunters unit began methodically searching for spies in Hezbollah’s midst. To find them, U.S. officials said, Hezbollah examined cellphone data looking for anomalies. The analysis identified cellphones that, for instance, were used rarely or always from specific locations and only for a short period of time. Then it came down to old-fashioned, shoe-leather detective work: Who in that area had information that might be worth selling to the enemy?
The effort took years but eventually Hezbollah, and later the Lebanese government, began making arrests. By one estimate, 100 Israeli assets were apprehended as the news made headlines across the region in 2009. Some of those suspected Israeli spies worked for telecommunications companies and served in the military.
Back at CIA headquarters, the arrests alarmed senior officials. The agency prepared a study on its own vulnerabilities, U.S. officials said, and the results proved to be prescient.
The analysis concluded that the CIA was susceptible to the same analysis that had compromised the Israelis, the officials said.
CIA managers were instructed to be extra careful about handling sources in Lebanon. A U.S. official said recommendations were issued to counter the potential problem.
But it’s unclear what preventive measures were taken by the Hezbollah unit chief or the officer in charge of the Beirut station. Former officials say the Hezbollah unit chief is no stranger to the necessity of counterintelligence and knew the risks. The unit chief has worked overseas in hostile environments like Afghanistan and played an important role in the capture of a top terrorist while stationed in the Persian Gulf region after the attacks of 9/11.
“We’ve lost a lot of people in Beirut over the years, so everyone should know the drill,” said a former Middle East case officer familiar with the situation.
But whatever actions the CIA took, they were not enough. Like the Israelis, bad tradecraft doomed these CIA assets and the agency ultimately failed to protect them, an official said. In some instances, CIA officers fell into predictable patterns when meeting their sources, the official said.
This allowed Hezbollah to identify assets and case officers and unravel at least part of the CIA’s spy network in Lebanon. There was also a reluctance to share cases and some files were put in “restricted handling.” The designation severely limits the number of people who know the identity of the source but also reduces the number of experts who could spot problems that might lead to their discovery, officials said.
Nasrallah’s televised announcement in June was followed by finger-pointing among departments inside the CIA as the spy agency tried figure out what went wrong and contain the damage.
The fate of these CIA assets is unknown. Hezbollah treats spies differently, said Matthew Levitt, a counterterrorism and intelligence expert at the Washington Institute for Near East Studies who’s writing a book about the terrorist organization
“It all depends on who these guys were and what they have to say,” Levitt said. “Hezbollah has disappeared people before. Others they have kept around.”
Who’s responsible for the mess in Lebanon? It’s not clear. The chief of Hezbollah operations at CIA headquarters continues to run the unit that also focuses on Iranians and Palestinians. The CIA’s top counterintelligence officer, who was one of the most senior women in the clandestine service, recently retired after approximately five years in the job. She is credited with some important cases, including the recent arrests of Russian spies who had been living in the U.S. for years.
Officials said the woman was succeeded by a more experienced operations officer. That officer has held important posts in Moscow, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Balkans, important frontlines of the agency’s spy wars with foreign intelligence services and terrorist organizations.

Ron Paul raps US hostility toward Iran
07 janvier 14:18
http://www.presstv.ir/detail/219725.html?mid=572434
US hopeful presidential candidate Ron Paul has lashed out at Washington’s hostile policies toward Iran, saying there is no evidence that Tehran is making nuclear weapons.
Iranians are “planning to be bombed” and would understandably make the necessary arrangements to counter the threat, even though there is “no evidence whatsoever” that they have “enriched” uranium, Paul said in a recent speech.
Washington and Tel Aviv have repeatedly threatened Tehran with the “option” of a military strike, based on the allegation that Iran’s nuclear work may consist of a covert military aspect.
Last week, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey said the US military is ready to launch a military strike against Iran, if occasion necessitates.
Dempsey’s warmongering tirades came on the heels of equally aggressive remarks by US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta that “no options were off the table” regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
Paul also noted that Iran’s anti-US stance stems from Washington’s interference in Tehran’s internal affairs.
He referred to the 1953 coup d’état against then Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq, explaining that the US forcefully replaced Mosaddeq with a ruthless dictator to secure its own interests, including oil benefits.
Paul also criticized the US sanctions against the Islamic Republic, describing them as “acts of war” which can pave the way for a real conflict in the Middle East.
“Sanctions were the first step in our wars against Iraq and Libya, and now more sanctions planned against Syria and Iran are leading down the same destructive path,” he warned in a recent article titled The Folly of Sanctions.
On December 31, US President Barack Obama signed into law fresh economic sanctions against Iran’s Central Bank in a bid to punish foreign companies and banks that do business with the Iranian financial institution.
The United States has already barred its own banks from dealing with the Iranian Central Bank. Thus, the new US sanctions are intended to dissuade other foreign banks from doing transactions with Iran’s Central Bank by threatening to cut off their access to US financial institutions.
The US, Israel and their allies accuse Iran of pursuing a military nuclear program and have used this allegation as a pretext to push the UN Security Council to impose sanctions on Iran.
Tehran has categorically refuted the Western allegations, saying that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), it has the right to acquire and develop atomic technology for peaceful purposes.

Yet Iran supported the terrorists against the Libyan Jamahiriya in spite of the agreements it had with Libya and Syria
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed that independent states are necessitated to tighten cooperation to confront the expansionist policies of the hegemonic powers.
“If independent states refrain from standing with each other through bilateral and international cooperation, the hegemonic powers that are irked and made worried by the progress of the other nations will not give them the chance to attain progress,” Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with Namibia’s Foreign Minister Utoni Nujoma in Tehran on Tuesday evening.
“If they (independent states) gain more progress, there would be less chance for the hegemonic powers’ bullying and plunder (of nations’ assets),” President Ahmadinejad noted, adding, “Of course, these are great goals which will come true through partnership among all nation and through non-stop work and efforts.”
The Namibian minister, for his part, lauded Iran’s support for Africa’s poor and weak nations, and stated that his country backs Iran in its supportive stance.
President Ahmadinejad has always underlined his administration’s resolve to continue support for stronger ties between Tehran and African nations.
Since President Ahmadinejad ascended to power, Iran has sought to boost ties and cooperation with both Africa and Latin America.
Iran is an observing member of the African Union and has shown an active presence in previous AU summit meetings.
The country is considered as one of the AU’s strategic partners along with India, Japan, China, several South American states and Turkey, while Tehran is also believed to be prioritizing promotion of its economic and political ties with the African states.

Iran, Russia Replace Dollar with National Currencies in Trade Exchanges

A top official of (Indian) city-based UCO Bank said while payments for his country’s oil imports would initially be in rupees, it would be then converted into a separate currency, which was yet to be decided by the apex bank.
Iran and Russia have replaced the US Dollar with their own currencies in their trade ties, a senior Iranian diplomat announced on Saturday.
Speaking to FNA, Tehran’s Ambassador to Moscow Seyed Reza Sajjadi said that the proposal for replacing the US Dollar with Ruble and Rial was raised by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Astana on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting.
“Since then, we have acted on this basis and a part of our interactions is done in Ruble now,” Sajjadi stated, adding that many Iranian traders are using Ruble for their trade deals. “There is a similar interest in the Russian side,” the envoy stated, adding that that Moscow is against unilateral sanctions on Iran outside the UN Security Council, specially the recent sanctions against Iran’s Central Bank (CBI).
“The move (imposing sanction on the CBI) is unacceptable. Russians have clearly announced that they will not accept these sanctions and Iran’s nuclear issue is resolvable just through negotiations.”
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hit back at the US after Washington introduced new sanctions against Iran’s central bank. President Ahmadinejad told an annual meeting of senior central bank officials that Iran’s central bank would respond with “force” to the new US sanctions intended to pressure Tehran to abandon its nuclear program. He said the bank was strong enough to defeat “enemy plans”.
The sanctions – which cut off from the US financial system foreign firms that do business with the central bank – are part of a defense bill signed by President Barack Obama earlier this month The extra US sanctions aim to squeeze Iran’s oil sales, most of which are processed by the central bank, although many even in the West believe that the move would prove futile.
During the last two years, Iran has been replacing the dollar with other currencies in its trade with the outside world. Iran has replaced the dollar in its oil trade with India, China and Japan. Late in November, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued the needed permission to the Central Bank of Iran to open rupee accounts with two Indian banks, namely UCO and IDBI, as a long-lasting solution to the two countries’ payment problems.
Both accounts were opened in the respective banks’ Mumbai branches. A top official of city-based UCO Bank said while payments for his country’s oil imports would initially be in rupees, it would be then converted into a separate currency, which was yet to be decided by the apex bank.

Some Islamic organizations cite it in support of the Islamic view of Jesus.
