Beginning in 1965, French President General Charles de Gaulle– who by that time had made France an economic power house through austerity programs in which built up France’s gold reserves after he returned to power in 1958– started demanding a reform of the international monetary system, a move back to the gold standard. As this 12 February 1965 Time article explains:[3]
“Perhaps never before had a chief of state launched such an open assault on the monetary power of a friendly nation. Nor had anyone of such stature made so sweeping a criticism of the international monetary system since its founding in 1944. France converted $150 million into gold last month, plans another $150 million conversion soon. To free more gold to meet rising demand, a congressional committee last week approved President Johnson’s proposal to eliminate the 25% gold backing now legally required for deposits held in the U.S. Federal Reserve System. But concern is growing in Washington that nations that have so far refrained from converting dollars out of consideration for the U.S. may cash them in for gold once the extra bullion becomes available—and thus send still more gold-laden truckloads rolling out of Fort Knox.”

This seems very prescient by de Gaulle, but for him it was mainly a political, rather than economic, goal. The old general was a great wartime leader, but his economic policies called for heavy government involvement in the economy, using 5-year plans and the like. But the French economy did thrive, with aid from the Marshall Plan, and more liberal business laws than, say, socialist Britain.
The thing about de Gaulle is that he wished to restore France to what he perceived its loss of status in the world. So, he carved a different path for France, often countering the interests of the U.S., the UK, and West Germany. That path is still followed today by France, hence, it’s “little big man” culture. So, when he called for a gold standard, what he was really saying is that the world should reject the Bretton Woods arrangement whereby the dollar, backed by gold, would be the world’s reserve currency. Thus he was rejecting U.S. dominance and was trying to dilute its power. He was right of course. We do need a new currency and gold is the one that has existed for 6,000 years, much to the consternation of governments who try to abolish it so they can control their economies for their own political ends.

Why is the US targeting Iran? An abundance of reasons

The situation with Iran is completely absurd–unless there is a hidden motive. Iran poses no military threat to the United States. Iran has not attacked any other country for more than 300 years. It has signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty. It allows inspectors. In 2007, 16 US intel agencies converged in the opinion that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons–an opinion they reaffirmed in 2011. The Supreme Leader of Iran has declared, “Nuclear energy for all; nuclear weapons for none”, which is the policy of the nation. Whatever the motive for targeting Iran, it is not the development of nukes.
If the issue were the possession of nuclear weapons, then we should be looking in another direction. Israel has 200-600 or more of these little beauties. Israel has not signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel will not allow inspectors. Israel runs the largest concentration camp in the world in Palestine–and is known for the brutality of its treatment of the Palestinian people, where Israel Defense Forces are known for their practice of randomly shooting young Palestinian children. If there is a nuclear threat in the Middle East, that threat comes from Israel, not Iran.
Moreover, one country appears to be using nuclear weapons in the Middle East, which is not Iran but the United States. Dr. Christopher Busby, an expert on connections between cancer and birth-defects in relation to the use of nuclear weapons, has concluded, based upon his study of anomalies in Fallujah, that the US has deployed a new type of nuclear weapon, probably a neutron bomb, in Iraq. While he came to the region in the expectation that he would discover the birth defects that have become so prevalent there–where 75% of live births suffer from serious genetic abnormalities–was from the use of depleted uranium weapons, what he found was far more alarming: they were caused, not by DU, but by enriched uranium from the use of a new class of weapons.
US USED SOME NEW TYPE OF NUCLEAR WEAPON IN FALLUJAH: IRAN IS NOT THE NUCLEAR THREAT
Since Israel has a vast stockpile and Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons, any concerns about them ought to be directed at Israel, not Iran. A more likely explanation, therefore, is that the peaceful development of nuclear energy is the real problem, where Iran has the potential to produce nuclear fuel rods at a fraction of the cost of those produced by the US nuclear energy industry. This consideration is not even mentioned much less discussed in the mass media in the United States, even though, upon reflection, the US industry must be panic-stricken over the prospect that Iran is virtually certain to dominate the global marked for nuclear fuel rods and drive the US industry to bankruptcy. But there may be yet another consideration that makes an even greater difference, which also related to energy and has nothing to do with oil.
The Stirling Engine
A friend of mine wrote me today telling me that, “about 50 years ago, I knew an Iranian student in college and he told me this big ‘secret’ his country was working on, he said it was a stirling engine, no intake and no exhaust, would run from any heat source, he said it would run if you just pissed on it—point is, Iran is so far ahead in development of this engine technology that no one can compete with them, so, I guess their economy has to be destroyed, otherwise they would be the leading energy provider for the world.”
The suggestion sounds a bit far-fetched until you appreciate that, as he explained, gasoline engines are 30% efficient, at best, meaning 70% of heat is lost. Stirling engines are 90% plus efficient from any fuel and can use solar, gasoline, diesel, coal, LP gas, steam or thermal water deposits and even cooling towers from nuclear plants. Iran’s focus on this technology caught the west flatfooted and not energy competitive, a very big no, no. . . . In brief, the stirling engine concept would free the world from ‘oil’ dependence and make Iran the major player in the world’s energy market–a big, big problem for the west.
Indeed, what he has told me is borne out even by entries in commonplace sources such as Wikipedia:
Regenerator
Main article: Regenerative heat exchangerIn a Stirling engine, the regenerator is an internal heat exchanger and temporary heat store placed between the hot and cold spaces such that the working fluid passes through it first in one direction then the other. Its function is to retain within the system that heat which would otherwise be exchanged with the environment at temperatures intermediate to the maximum and minimum cycle temperatures,[11] thus enabling the thermal efficiency of the cycle to approach the limiting Carnot efficiency defined by those maxima and minima.
The primary effect of regeneration in a Stirling engine is to increase the thermal efficiency by ‘recycling’ internal heat which would otherwise pass through the engine irreversibly. As a secondary effect, increased thermal efficiency yields a higher power output from a given set of hot and cold end heat exchangers. It is these which usually limit the engine’s heat throughput. In practice this additional power may not be fully realized as the additional “dead space” (unswept volume) and pumping loss inherent in practical regenerators reduces the potential efficiency gains from regeneration.
The design challenge for a Stirling engine regenerator is to provide sufficient heat transfer capacity without introducing too much additional internal volume (‘dead space’) or flow resistance. These inherent design conflicts are one of many factors which limit the efficiency of practical Stirling engines. A typical design is a stack of fine metal wire meshes, with low porosity to reduce dead space, and with the wire axes perpendicular to the gas flow to reduce conduction in that direction and to maximize convective heat transfer.[12]
The regenerator is the key component invented by Robert Stirling and its presence distinguishes a true Stirling engine from any other closed cycle hot air engine. Many small ‘toy’ Stirling engines, particularly low-temperature difference (LTD) types, do not have a distinct regenerator component and might be considered hot air engines, however a small amount of regeneration is provided by the surface of displacer itself and the nearby cylinder wall, or similarly the passage connecting the hot and cold cylinders of an alpha configuration engine.
Further substantiation–albeit indirect–comes from the extensive array of CCGT power plants, which appear to incorporate stirling engines in their towers. Notice the absence of the kinds of cooling units ordinarily associated with power plants, where these instead are designed to capture energy to an extent that they are neither needed nor desired:
By designating Iran as a “terrorist state”, the US is not legally bound to recognizes its patents and legal claims to its own inventions. If there is a bombing of Iran, you can bet it will be on these CCGT power plants rather than on any alleged “nuclear facilities”. This is another case of “big lies” coming from the American government to benefit the profit margins of US corporations.
An Abundance of Reasons
What this alternative provides is another explanation that goes beyond what we have been told by our own government–which, of course, is hardly surprising, since it lies about everything of importance, from the assassination to JFK to the atrocities of 9/11 to the fabricated events of Aurora and Sandy Hook. Were I to enumerate a list of reasons why the US continues to target Iran, even though it poses no military risk, especially from nuclear weapons, then the most important considerations would appear to be:
(1) that Iran abandoned the petro-dollar for trade in multiple currencies, which has been described as a “weapon of mass destruction of a very different kind“, of which the American public only dimly grasps:
It began in 2005, when Iran announced it would form its own International Oil Bourse (IOB), the first phase of which opened in 2008. The IOB is an international exchange that allows international oil, gas, and petroleum products to be traded using a basket of currencies other than the U.S. dollar. Then in November 2007 at a major OPEC meeting, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for a “credible and good currency to take over U.S. dollar’s role and to serve oil trades”. He also called the dollar “a worthless piece of paper.” The following month, Iran—consistently ranked as either the third or fourth biggest oil producer in the world—announced that it had requested all payments for its oil be made in currencies other than dollars.
The latest round of U.S. sanctions targets countries that do business with Iran’s Central Bank, which, combined with the U.S. and EU oil embargoes, should in theory shut down Iran’s ability to export oil and thus force it to abandon its nuclear program by crippling its economy. But instead, Iran is successfully negotiating oil sales via accepting gold, individual national currencies like China’s renmimbi, and direct bartering.
Other countries that have abandoned the petro-dollar have also not fared well in their relations with the United States, including Iraq in late 2000 and Libya introduced the gold dinar in 2011. It isn’t rocket science to infer that our invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the bombing of Libya have followed in their wake:
Since gold yuan coinage was announced by China, talks about the gold standard had been brought up in the Middle East. The main initiator of non-payment in dollars and euros is the Leader and Guide of the Revolution in Libya, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. He called on Arab and African world to adopt a single current – the gold dinar.
On this financial basis, Colonel Gaddafi offered to create a single African state with Arab and Black African population numbering 200 million people. The idea of creating a single gold currency and uniting the countries of Africa into one powerful federal system has been actively supported during the last year by a number of Arabic and almost all African states. Democracy-infested South Africa and the Arab League were opposed to the idea.
The US and the EU reacted very negatively to such a initiative. According to a French Zio “president” Sarkozy, “the Libyans have set on the financial security of mankind.” Repeated calls by the Leader of the Libyan Revolution yields some results: Gaddafi has made more and more steps aimed at creating a United Africa.
Two false arguments have been invented to cover up the true reason for the present Zio-Christian Crusade against Libya: officially – “to defend human rights” and unofficially – an attempt to steal oil from the Libyan people. Both of these arguments do not hold up to scrutiny. The truth is that Colonel Muammar Gaddafi decided to repeat the attempts by French General de Gaulle to abandon the use of U.S. junk paper money called “dollars” and return to gold, i.e. he attempts to attack the chief power of modern parasitic Zio Democracy – the banking system.
(2) that Iran threatens the US nuclear energy industry with its potential to produce nuclear fuel rods at a fraction of the cost and is expected to dominate the international market is one dimension of the energy threat, where the development of the stirling engine appears to represent another. If my friend is right in what he has told me, then the situation is as hypocritical as it could possibly be, because the threat is not remotely military but rather economic, where the benefits that may come to the world from emancipation from its dependents upon gas and oil poses the most serious kind of threat that the gas and oil industry has ever known. Just as Gaddafi was benefitting the people of Libya and promoting the best interests of the African continent, Iran has the potential to benefit the people of the world–but at immense cost to the profit margin of the gas and oil industry, which suggests the real reasons why the US is targeting Iran.

Obama Waives Bush Law Banning Child Soldiers

On October 3, 2008, President George W. Bush signed into law “Child Soldiers Prevention Act of 2008,” a law that made it a federal crime to recruit or use soldiers under the age of 15. The law also gave the United States authority to “prosecute, deport or deny entry to individuals who have knowingly recruited children as soldiers.”
The bipartisan law, which was passed unanimously by both houses of Congress, drew the applause of several international human rights organizations:
“The US is saying to the world that using child soldiers is a serious crime and that it will take action,” said Jo Becker, children’s rights advocate for Human Rights Watch. “Militarycommanders who use children can no longer come to the United States without the risk of ending up in jail.”
Over the weekend, while most Americans were too busy spending time with their children and keeping up with the latest sporting events to worry aboutexecutive orders, President Obama removed the teeth from this law; effectively making it void in the nations most guilty. The result – thousands of children throughout the Middle East and Africa may be drafted into foreign militaries, with the full blessings of the United States.
Sunday afternoon, President Obama signed a Presidential memorandum, stating the following:
“I hereby determine that it is in the national interest of the United States to waive the application of the prohibition in section 404(a) of the CSPA [Child Soldiers Prevention Act of 2008] with respect to Libya, South Sudan, and Yemen… and the issuance of licenses for directcommercial sales of U.S. origin defense articles; and I hereby waive such provisionsaccordingly.”

Israel’s Coming “Civil War”: The Haredi Jews Confront the Militarized Secular Zionist State

Israel is heading towards a profound internal crisis: a Jew-on-Jew confrontation, which has major implications for its relations with the Palestinians, as well as its Arab neighbors. The conflict is between the highly militarized Zionist state and the Haredi religious movement over a number of issues, including recent proposals by the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to end the religious exemption of Haradi youth from serving in Israel ’s colonial armed forces.
Haredim and the Zionist Colonial State
Even before the forcible imposition (‘founding’) of the state of Israel , the Haredim were opposed to Zionism. Today the vast majority of Haredim in Israel remain staunchly opposed to the Zionist state for religious, ethical and political reasons. Haredi religious teaching claims that the Jewish people are bound by three oaths: (1) not to settle in Israel by using force or violence, (2) not to make war with other nations and (3) not to act as if the other nations of the world would persecute Israel .
Haredim opposed Israel ’s violent ethnic cleaning of over 850,000 Palestinians in the course of establishing the Israeli State and continues to oppose Israeli settlers’ violently land grabs against Palestinians. Unlike other so-called ‘ultra-Orthodox’ sects, who support Zionist colonialism and bless the Israeli military, the Haredim maintain that militarism corrupts the spirit and that Zionists have transformed Jews from righteous followers of the Torah into rabid ethnocentric supporters of a militarist state. For the Haredim, ‘state worship’, especially the waving of the Israeli flag in the temple, is a sacrilege comparable to the renegade Jews condemned by Moses for worshipping the Golden Calf.
The majority of Haredim boycott elections, organize their own schools (Yeshivas), encourage students to deepen their religious studies, emphasize community and family values (of a profoundly patriarchal sort) with numerous children and strongly reject the Zionist state’s efforts to conscript Haredi youth into their colonial occupation army, the so-called Israeli Defense (sic) Force (IDF). All major Zionist political parties and the ruling colonial regime unite to demonize the Haredim, claiming they are shirking their patriotic military responsibilities. Via the mass media and public pronouncements Zionist politicians and the state incite Israeli hatred against the Haredim: A study in 2006 claimed that over a third of Israeli Jews identified the Haredim as the most unpopular group in Israel .
The Haredim, on the other hand, have reason to fear and loath the secular militarist Zionist state and politicians: They claim that after World War II in the Zionist-controlled relocation camps for refugee Jewish children in Teheran, the Jewish Agency imposed Zionist ideology and militarist anti-religious policies in order to cut Haredim children off from their spiritual roots. According to one Haredim report many religious Jewish youth from Poland , mostly survivors of the Holocaust and Soviet Russia, were subjected to “unimaginable mental and physical cruelty with one goal in mind: (the) obliteration of Judaism”. Given the Israeli drive today to harness a corrupted form of Judaism to serve colonial militarism, the Haredim have every reason to believe that the conscription of their sons and daughters will be accompanied by cruel, systematic Zionist brainwashing to ensure they make efficient (brutal) occupation soldiers.
Haredim versus Israeli State Values
The Haredim fervently believe in and practice the Biblical teaching: “Be fruitful and multiply”. They have large families and the median age among the Haredim is 16 years. Their peaceful message to the militarist Zionists could be summed up as: “Make babies, not bombs”.
Some Haredim leaders have met with Palestinian and Iranian officials and, in line with their religious doctrine, have declared their support for peaceful resolution of conflicts and denounced Israel ’s aggressive military posture.
Haredim are intensely religious and dedicate their time to discuss and debate the readings of their great religious scholars: Their message to the Zionists is to read Maimonides’ ethical treatises rather than listen to Netanyahu’s bellicose, blood curdling rants.
Haredim live and study largely within the confines of their close communities. They insist on sending their sons to the yeshivas to study religious doctrine rather than to the West Bank to kill Palestinians. They call on their children to serve G-d – not the IDF. They seek truth in the Torah – not in conquest via the Preventive War Doctrines espoused by prestigious Israeli and overseas Zionist academic militarists.
Haredim focus on building a better life within their community; they reject the efforts of the Zionist state to entice them into joining the violent self-styled ‘Jewish’ settlers engaged in brutal land grabs in the West Bank , in the name of “contributing to society (sic)”. The ‘introverted Haredi way of life’ is seen as a righteous alternative to the crass militarism, money laundering, financial speculation, human body part trafficking and real estate swindles rife among the elite Israelis and among sectors of overseas Zionists engaged in procuring multi- billion dollar tribute from the US Treasury.
Haredim believe, with exemplary evidence, that conscripting their youth into the Israeli colonial army would destroy their moral values, as their sons would be forced to grope and search Arab women at checkpoints, break the legs of stone-throwing Palestinian children, defend lawless self-styled ‘Jewish’ settlers as they paint obscene graffiti in mosques and churches and attack Arab children on their way to school … not to speak of the ill effects of what secular Israeli Jews call a “modern education”, full of historical fabrications about the origins of Israel, scientific readings on high tech war-making and “advanced” economic doctrines proclaiming the sacred role of the free market, and justifying the 60% poverty rate among Haredim as “self-induced”.
The Haredim demand that the Israeli Jewish elite stop trying to conscript their youth into the IDF and stop the job discrimination, which has trippled the unemployment rate among Haredim.
The Coming ‘Civil War’: Zionist State versus the Haredim
The elected leader, Yair Lapid, of newly formed Yesh Atid Party, dubbed a “centrist” by the New York Times, and a ‘moderate’ by the leading ideologues of the US Zionist “lobby”, ran on a platform of forcibly ending the Haredi exemption from conscription into the colonial military service. Yair Lapid, in the run-up to joining a new Netanyahu coalition regime, has launched a vicious attack on the Haredim. Lapid premises his agreement to joining Netanyahu’s war machine on his plans to forcibly confront the Haredi leadership. Yair Lapid taps the class and secular resentments of Israel’s upwardly mobile youth who bitterly complain of having to serve in the army, thus delaying their money-making opportunities, while the poor, semi-literate “blacks” (a derogatory term referring to the clothing of Haredim) engage in “worthless studies” of the Torah. Lapid, using the same perverted logic as Netanyahu, claims that “Ten percent of the population cannot threaten 90 percent with civil war”, (Financial Times, 2/14/13, p. 6.).
Once again, the executioner (Lapid) accuses the victim (Haredim) of the violence he is about to commit. Lapid’s Yesh Atid, the centrist (sic) party, has allied with Naftali Bennett’s neo-fascist ‘Jewish Home Party’ (pushing for the annexation of all of Palestine and expulsion of non-Jews) in smashing Haredi exemption to military conscription. They hold veto power over the next cabinet. This rabidly secular militarist assault has provoked great opposition and united the otherwise Zionist-religious parties: The Shas Party (Sephardic Haredim) and United Torah Judaism have taken up the defense of the Haredim.
Lines are being drawn far beyond a Haredim-Zionist State confrontation.
The Larger Meaning of the Haredim-Zionist Conflict
The Haredim hostility to the secular Zionist state is in part based on its opposition to military conscription, thus calling into question Israeli militarism, in general, and specifically its policy of colonial occupation and regional aggression. While some Haredim may oppose conscription for religious reasons and seek exemption solely for its own youth, objectively, the effect is to undermine Israel ’s violation of Palestinian rights and to call into question the entire apartheid system. By speaking to spiritual values, they deny the legitimacy of the idea of a Jewish police state based on force, violence, torture and disappearance of political prisoners. Their questioning of the institutional configuration upholding Jewish supremacy and Israel as the homeland of the Chosen People, they strike a powerful blow at the ideological underpinnings of the overseas activity of the Zionist power configuration. Their animosity to the fusion of Jewish chauvinism and religious rituals and the tribal deification of the Israeli state is counterposed to their embrace of Moses Ten Commandments.
The Haredim study the teaching of the profound Judaic philosopher Maimonides and abhor Zionist militaristic strategists like Walzer, Dershowitz, Kagan, Feith, Netanyahu, etc. who preach colonial “just war” doctrines. Representing 10% of the Israeli population and a far greater percentage of military age youth, the Haredim are in a position to sharply limit the scope of future Zionist wars. If they succeed in blocking conscription, they would provide a lasting contribution to making the world in general, and the Middle East in particular, a more secure and peaceful place to live.
Facing the prospect of a loss of future cannon fodder to sustain its colonial ventures, and in their frenzied attacks on the Haredim, the Israeli-Zionist elite have incited the majority of Israeli Jews to demonize them as ‘backward’, illiterate, freeloaders and to blame the religious curriculum for their growing and current 60% rate of poverty and high unemployment. Israel ’s war machine needs fresh recruits to maintain its imperial quest for a Greater Israel.
Demographics – with families exceeding five children –indicate the Haredim are likely to double their percentage of the Israeli population over the next two decades. Faced with the ‘facts on the ground and in the cradle’, the colonial expansionist imperative drives all the leading Zionist parties to end Haredi exemptions. In response Haredi leaders threaten to engage in massive civil disobedience if the Zionists impose conscription, rightly seeing conscription of its youth as an assault on its most profoundly held spiritual and family values and as an opening wedge in destroying traditional community solidarity and reciprocal relations.
The Haredim share a common plight with Israel ’s Arab population: Both communities face increasing police harassment, discrimination, religious persecution and rising levels of poverty. A Haredim-Arab alliance would unite 30% of the population against a common secular militarist and plutocratic enemy. Farfetched as it seems on the subjective level, there are objective historical and structural processes which are driving the two groups together.
It is one of the great ironies of history that the world’s modern secular anti-imperialist movements should find their most consequential allies among Israel ’s most traditional and deeply religious movement.

My good friend, the whole thing reminds me of “Team E” … the crunch will save the homeland. I confess that all these stories caressed our ears and help us to sleep with fewer nightmares, but I’m very – very skeptical at stories of this type, which paradoxically appear at a time suitable to make them more digestible. Good or optimism but also a little skepticism does not hurt. Thank you for your time.
