Memories from 28 FEBR. 2011:
‘My People Love Me’: Moammar Gadhafi Denies Demonstrations Against
Him Anywhere in Libya
TRIPOLI, Libya, 28 Febr. 2011
I interviewed Col. Muammar al-Qathafi this evening, when he told me he could not step down because he is not a president or king, and denied there were demonstrations
against him anywhere in Libya.
“They love me. All my people with me, they love me,” he said. “They will die to protect me, my people.”
We conducted the interview at a beachfront restaurant in the Corniche, a coastal road on Tripoli’s Mediterranean coast. Dressed in his flowing trademark robes and gold-rimmed aviator sunglasses,Qathafi looked every inch the flamboyant character he’s known to be. The longtime leader, who didn’t seem to be surrounded by huge amounts of security,
seemed relaxed and focused. Walking unabashedly into the restaurant, Qathafi wanted to show he’s not hiding in any underground bunker and that he believes he’s still very much in charge.
al-Qathafi Tells ABC He Cannot Step Down, because he has no position to step-down from!
Qathafi said he wanted to speak to the press to get the truth out, and he spent more than an hour with us trying to put forth his side of the story.
The Libyan leader laughed when I asked him whether he would step down in response to calls against violence by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Obama.
“Would anyone leave his homeland? Why would I leave Libya?” Qathafi said, laughing.
He invited the United Nations and any other organization to come to Libya and do a “fact finding mission” and questioned how they could freeze assets, impose sanctions
and an arms embargo, and implement a travel ban based purely on media reports alone.
The current uprising is the most serious challenge posed to al-Qathafi’s leadership since he came to power in 1969. The 11-day revolt has turned the Zionist international community
against Qathafi and spurred the United Nations to impose new sanctions against him.
… Qathafi’s version of the truth seemed to be at odds with what people have been talking about and reporting here,
and he does not seem to fully comprehend the drama and the magnitude of what’s going on around him.
He said he would not be leaving Libya, and denied — in very strong terms — using any force against his people. I asked him several
times about reports that aerial bombardments had been used against protesters, but Qathafi said they did not happen and that they had only bombed military and ammunition depots.
He seemed to be in complete denial about the protests against him, and that other big cities in Libya, particularly those in the east, had been taken by his opponents.
He simply rejected the notion that any walls were closing in on him. He denied he was besieged in the capital and said he would survive the current situation.
Qathafi reiterated his mantra, saying he’s not president and he’s not in a formal position. Libya is ruled by the people, and he is one of the people, he told ABC News.
Qathafi instead blamed al Qaeda for encouraging young people to seize arms from military installations. [yes indeed the truth!]
He said the people who have taken over Benghazi in eastern Libya are terrorists and al Qaeda operatives. He doesn’t believe people are
demonstrating against him anywhere in Libya, and repeated the charge that those who are have been given hallucinogenic drugs —
a claim he first made in his televised speech broadcast last week.
Though he spoke mostly in Arabic, at times he became passionate and broke into excited English.
When I asked him about international fears that he might use chemical weapons or launch a scorched-earth campaign against vital oil supplies, Qathafi responded with laughter.
“We solved all these WMD issues with the U.S. and Britain years ago. It’s not reasonable to use against your enemy, let alone your own people,” he responded.
“The terrorists will try. At night, they try and go into the oil fields.”
Qathafi, whose vision for Libya has lasted 41 years, said he felt betrayed by the United States.
“I’m surprised that we have an alliance with the West to fight al-Qaeda, and now that we are fighting terrorists they have abandoned us. Perhaps they want to occupy Libya.”
Libya gave up whatever it had of “weapons of mass destruction” in 2003, after the invasion of Iraq, and the United States lifted sanctions and restarted business relations with Libya.
In 2008, then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visited Libya, marking the first such visit for an official of her position since 1953, and in 2009, Qathafi visited the United States.
Muammar al-Qathafi (being polite) still called Obama a “good man” but said he might have been given “misinformation.”
“The statements I have heard from him must have come from someone else,” Gadhafi said. “America is not the international police of the world.”
(ABC conducted the interview with two other reporters from the BBC and the Sunday Times of London.)
In a move that was not unexpected, Libya’s Muammar al-Qathafi (spelling varies in the West) was made king of the African Union.
The proposed visit by the Libyan leader to be conferred with the title at the maiden conference of Traditional Rulers in West Africa had dominated the airwaves
and newspaper headlines in the last few days.
Qaddafi will seek single state as African Union head
International Herald Tribune – 03 Febr. 2009
DAKAR, Senegal: President Muammar al-Qathafi of Libya was named chairman of the African Union on Monday, wresting control of a body he helped found
and has long wanted to remake in his pan-African image.
His installation as the new head of the 53-member bodyresembled more of a coronation than a democratic transfer of power. Qathafi was dressed
in flowing gold robes and surrounded by traditional African leaders who hailed him as the “king of kings.”
The choice of Qathafi was not a surprise — he was the leading candidate…
Qaddafi is an ardent supporter of a long-held dream of transforming Africa, a collection of post-colonial fragments divided by borders that were drawn arbitrarily by Western powers, into a vast, unified state that could play a powerful role in global affairs. He has repeatedly proposed immediate unity and the establishment of a single currency, army and passport for the entire continent…
While a few African leaders share his passion and his timetable for this pan-African vision, most prefer a go-slow approach, given the political realities that have emerged in the half-century since most of Africa became independent.
“In principle, we said the ultimate is the United States of Africa,” said Tanzania’s president, Jakaya Kikwete, the previous African Union chairman, according to the BBC. “How we proceed to that ultimate — there are building blocks.”
Qaddafi’s new role comes alongside a changing of the guard in Africa. A set of leaders once hailed as new visionaries or cursed as dictators have left the continent’s stage, and a jumbled array of new leaders have emerged.
[THE FOLLOWING IS EDITED FROM AN ARTICLE BY Donnchadh Mac an Ghoill of the organisation “FODIA 32” of EIRE] posted on 19 SEPTEMBER 2013 by MATHABA.NET]:
It’s true that there were weak minded and corrupt people in the Libyan GREAT JAMAHIRIYA, who had fallen for the lie of neo-liberalism, but that goes to show that al-Qathafi
was not the “all-powerful tyrant” that some would like to present him as. – He had to fight his corner, and he didn’t always win.
Another unfortunate claim is that al-Qathafi referred to the people of Benghazi as “rats,” and threatened to massacre them. This is simply not true. al-Qathafi was referring to the racist lynch mobs, who, on the second day of their “peaceful demonstrations,” took fifty black migrant workers from a construction site, locked them in a shed, and burned them to death. He was not referring to the decent people of Benghazi – the vast majority. Even after these racist atrocities, al-Qathafi offered peace to those who would lay down their weapons. He ordered his forces to withdraw from Benghazi and allowed an escape route into Egypt.
As Professor Maximilian Forte has shown, in his “Slouching Towards Sirte – NATO’s War on Libya and Africa,” French military aircraft attacked a Libyan Army convoy – leaving Benghazi. Troops remaining in Benghazi had been ordered not to return fire, so much so, that when one military barracks was attacked by the “peaceful protestors,” who used a suicide bomber to blow in the gates, the soldiers allowed themselves to be captured rather than return fire. The black soldiers were separated out – and lynched. It’s true that the Libyan authorities made a mistake in Benghazi. But, the mistake was not in using too much force – it was in failing to quickly isolate the racist terrorists and using the full force of the state against them – as any state would and should.
There had been many of these “uprisings” in Benghazi over the years, initiated by Al Qaeda linked Jihadist groups. However, in largely tribal societies like Libya, these Jihadist groups are closely tied in with particular tribal groupings. al-Qathafi had always handled these uprisings in a particularly tribal fashion. He would make a small display of state force to show the Jihadists that they had no prospect of success, and then allow them to escape – so as to avoid having to kill them. 2011 was different – the Al Qaeda leaders had been assured, by their MI6 and CIA handlers, that if they created enough murder and mayhem they would be virtually assured of NATO support.
I would mention one more (great) misunderstanding in Professor Horace Campbell’s latest book [“GLOBAL NATO”] … :
al-Qathafi did not declare himself “King of Kings”. This was an honour conferred on him by Kenyan tribal elders. It did not mean that they regarded him as their ruler, but as first among equals. The conferral may be seen on You Tube, and anyone watching it will be struck by how humbly al-Qathafi received the honour. I’m very sure that Professor Campbell would be the last to deny native peoples the right to honour their friends. The honour was particularly important to al-Qathafi, as he knew that African unity could not happen without the support of the tribal leaders – who are generally more trusted by ordinary Africans than their elected leaders.
NATO’s war against Libya and Africa started long before 2011. It is, and always has been, a war to keep Africa disunited and weak, and thus unable to be the master of its own destiny. In effect, it is a war to undo the gains of the 1950s and 60s, and return Africa to the status quo of the late 19th century.
Even before the UN lifted its sanctions on Libya, in 2003, Al-Gaddafi had conceived a grand plan – the unification of Africa. It was not a new idea, of course, but Al-Gaddafi had a particular plan – to use the force of his own extraordinary personality, and the power of Libya’s oil revenues, to make the dream a reality. After decades of armed struggle against imperialism, by the 1990s, al-Qathafi had become more interested in the possibilities of what is now referred to as “soft power.” He made peace with Chad and other neighbors he had been in conflict with, and gradually attracted them into a new sphere of influence that he was developing. When the sanctions ended, large sums of money became available to back up this soft power. The Libyan Socialist Jamahiriya built schools, hospitals, roads, hotels, communications systems, commercial farms, etc., all over Africa. It put Africa’s first telecommunications satellite in orbit – saving Africa billions of dollars that it had been paying to European satellite companies.
…US diplomats were growing extremely concerned that Al-Gaddafi’s soft power was beating them on every front. As a reaction to this beating, in 2007 the US administration established United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), to direct US military power in Africa. Here again, they faced defeat from al-Qathafi. Libya was to the fore in insisting that AFRICOM should not (in any means)
be permitteded to set up its Head Quarters on African soil. It had to shamefully slink off to Stuttgart, in Germany, to build its HQ. This was a slight that the US elite would not forget – or forgive.
al-Qathafi knew that political unity must be grounded in economic unity. He was the main force behind the founding of the African Union (AU), and pressed for a single African currency and an African Central Bank. These plans would take colossal amounts of money – even more than Libya’s oil revenues were taking in. The only place to get that kind of money fast was to enter the shark pit itself – Wall Street – and the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) starting doing business with the most vicious shark of them all – Goldman-Sachs. At first, Libya suffered tremendous losses, but then,
as Professor Campbell puts it, Libya went for the jugular. The whole of the Wall Street Ponzi Scheme rests on the Petrodollar, and the laundering of Petrodollars through the “dark markets” of Dubai.
Professor Campbell writes: “After December 2010, the Central Bank of Libya took a controlling position in Arab Banking Corporation, based in Bahrain. The Arab Banking Corporation was owned by the Kuwait Investment Authority, the Central Bank of Libya, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, and other shareholders with minor shares. Any move for making independent decisions in the Arab Banking Corporation threatened the web of speculators in the derivatives industry that depended on the recycling of petrodollars from the oil-rich nations of Kuwait, Libya, and the Emirates. Libya had gone for the jugular, by seeking to capture the base of the Intercontinental Exchange.”
The whole saga of the Arab Banking Corporation and Wall Street will require a full volume in itself. This is a key issue for the understanding of why Libya was attacked in 2011, and badly needs a full academic analysis. …
…By early 2011, the Libyan Central Bank had amassed 144 tons of gold in Tripoli, and pressed ahead with plans to launch the Gold Dinar, which, if accepted by other African countries, with their unimaginable mineral wealth, would quickly become the most powerful currency in the world. Campbell quotes Sarkozi as saying, vis-à-vis the war against Libya:
“We must protect the Euro.”
The Petrodollar too was under grave threat of losing its hegemonic position over energy markets.
Al-Qathafi had used soft power and “Dinar Diplomacy” to defeat the Anglo-Saxons and their French running dogs in Africa. He had entered the shark pit of Wall Street, and beaten them there too. But, the imperial powers had one more card to play – murder (or at least the appearance of murder).
I hardly need recount the catalogue of lies poured down on Libya by a compliant Western media and their Gulf cohorts. Al Jazeera quickly turned from being a once respected news outlet to being the most gross and shameless purveyor of lies. Campbell goes into all these details. He joins Professor Forte in going into considerable detail regarding NATO’s gross disregard for civilian lives in Libya, and how NATO aided and abetted racist lynchings and the ethnic cleansing of tens of thousands of black civilians. How NATO ships broke international maritime law, by watching over 1500 black people drown in the Mediterranean, as they attempted to escape the racist carnage, and refusing to offer the victims assistance.
How the racist rebels proved themselves worthless against the the Armed Fores of the GREAT JAMAHIRIYA (now dubbed “al-Qathafi Forces” or “Gaddafi’s REGIME” by the imperialist media), so that 6,000 Qatari troops, thousands of foreign mercenaries, and hundreds of NATO Special Forces had to be dressed up as “rebels” so that Tripoli could be captured. Even then, the citizens of Tripoli gathered, in their thousands, around al-Qathafi’s compound, with nothing but their bodies to protect their nation’s honour. NATO showed its concern for civilians – by strafing the crowd with machine gun fire from Apache helicopters. One of those killed was 22 year old journalist, Mohanned Magam, who was shot in the back from an Apache Helicopter, as he tried to help other victims. Mohanned had been the principal organiser of the huge anti-NATO rally in Tripoli on June 1st, 2011, which most of the Western media had suppressed, but has since been recognised as a most extraordinary demonstration of civilian courage under the terror of bombing.
It was not long until the crowing lies about the great success in Libya started to fall apart – even in the eyes of Western audiences, who were already bored with Libya and looking forward to the next bombing campaign on their TV screens….
During the so-called “uprising,” Christopher Stevens, a prominent homosexual spy for the USA, preferred to sleep in a hotel that was being used by the rebel militias, rather than stay in any sort of secure diplomatic structure. He took pride in the fact that the hotel room he now lived in had sometimes been used by the Head of Libyan Military Intelligence, Abdullah al-Senussi.
It was his little brush with celebrity….
he concentrated on recruiting young men to go to fight in Syria, and on doing arms deals with the militias to send weapons to Syria. It isn’t known precisely why one of these militias decided to attack him. It may have been an arms deal gone bad, or it may have been over the fact, which later emerged, that the CIA had been using what passed as a consulate in Benghazi as a “black prison” to hold militia members. These questions were to open a can of worms for the US administration – and lead to several senior heads rolling, including that of CIA chief, David Petraeus.
If there’s a central character in this book, it’s General David H. Petraeus. So much of what’s wrong with NATO is reflected in the person of this one man – the megalomania, the rush to break all ties with reality, and the almost total lack of moral compass. Petraeus’ reputation as something of a military genius is based on his amazing discoveries in Iraq. For example, he discovered that if you pay “Military Contractors,” i.e. mercenaries, to do the fighting, the body count you have to report to the US public dramatically decreases. The downside of this discovery is that mercenaries are very poor fighters against armed insurgents, but very good at committing atrocities against the unarmed civilian population. He also discovered that if you hijack the entire national revenue of an oil state, and use the money to bribe the insurgents not to attack your soldiers, as long as the payments are made on time, they probably will keep the peace.
His other brilliant discovery was that the US public really don’t want the truth – or, at least, won’t make much effort to get it. The bigger and more exiting the lie, the more acceptable it will become. Obama was so impressed by Petraeus, that in June 2010, he made him commander of US Forces in Afghanistan. Things were not so easy here. The only national revenue worth hijacking was the drug money from opium. But, Petraeus still had some magic left. He promoted the idea that the CIA should become the front line of US offensive action. Not that CIA agents would be anywhere near the front line. From their easy chairs, they bomb homes, schools, weddings and even hospitals with their joysticks. Drone warfare is the name of the game.
However, none of this was as exciting as Iraq, and Petraeus was spending more and more of his time trying to explain to his adoring fans in the Western media why the best armed and best trained army in the world was being beaten, on every front, by poorly armed tribesmen. Petraeus took refuge from his futile existence in the charms of his besotted biographer, Paula Broadwell. Campbell writes: “Petraeus understood the stakes of the legacy of a general, and it was based on his sense of history that he supported Paula Broadwell’s project to write his biography.” As we later understood, Paula had bigger ambitions than just writing a book – she wanted to make her own little bit of history.
Despite the failures in Afghanistan, by 2012, the star of General Petraeus was shining in its highest glory. In 2011, Obama had appointed him Director General of the CIA, from which position he could continue his efforts to move the CIA into the role of the leading offensive weapon in the US imperial arsenal. His drone attacks continued to slaughter hundreds of innocent civilians – but that was no reason a man couldn’t become US President. Professor Campbell writes: “In December 2012 it was finally revealed that Roger Ailes of Fox News had approached Petraeus to recruit him as the presidential candidate for the 2012 elections…Rupert Murdock would offer financial support for his presidential bid.” Petraeus, however, decided against such a leap, and could have expected to further his reputation in the CIA for at least another four years….
…Ms. Broadwell dropped her own drone bombshell in the lap of David Petraeus, when she revealed that the CIA had been running a secret prison in what was supposed to be a US consulate. Questions were raised about Stevens’ activities in Benghazi, and why the usual procedures for the protection of diplomats had been thrown out the window. All of these questions, ultimately, related to the kind of military régime that Petraeus had been fostering all this time – the replacement of soldiers with mercenaries, the extensive use of assassination as a political weapon, the confusing of diplomatic and military roles, and the use of local gangs to carry out military operations. Perhaps, resigning over an extra-marital affair was easier than having to answer these questions.
Professor Campbell analyses the disposition of forces in NATO, and finds that far from proving the strength of NATO, the war against the Libyan people exposed its terminal weakness. Of twenty-eight NATO member states, only eight agreed to be part of the War on Libya. Campbell quotes Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, as saying: “Isn’t the Libyan case yet another example of European hypocrisy?” Poland refused to join in the oil grab. Of the eight, only the two Anglo-Saxon states and France took any real part in the bombing. Italy allowed its airbases to be used to launch the bombing raids. Of course, the reality of NATO is that it consists of the USA – plus its running dogs. The British and the French usually just tag along to lend some kind of political fig leaf to US imperial campaigns. However, in Libya’s case, the Brits and the French could smell the oil and were desperate to get at it. Campbell relates that it was particularly the French who wanted war, and drew the first blood – the Libyan Army convoy mentioned above, withdrawing from Benghazi….
…The French have shown great interest in Libya’s water and the Great Man Made River, which some have valued at 70 trillion dollars – far more than the oil is worth. The US government seemed less interested in the oil and water, and more interested in taking control of the Libyan Investment Authority and the Arab Banking Corporation – no doubt acting under orders from Wall Street.
So, what can we say has been the nature of NATO’s “success” in Libya? Eight months of bombing by the combined air power of the USA, Britain and France. 6,000 Qatari troops, thousands of mercenaries, and hundreds of NATO Special Forces. And all to defeat a country with the same population as Ireland! Or, about half the population of “Gallant Little Belgium.” At the end of eight months, 150 bombing raids per day, most of NATO’s air fleet was grounded, due to lack of spare parts and the exhaustion of the air-crews. Only a liar or a madman would call this a “success” for NATO.
As I write, the calls of the war-mongers for an attack on Syria have been blunted by the failure of a false flag chemical attack, deft diplomacy on the part of the Russian and Syrian governments – and a strong dose of Realpolitik. Those US generals who have studied NATO’s war against the Libyan people will be very reluctant to repeat the “success” – against the vastly more powerful, more prepared, and more battle hardened Syrian Arab Army and its allies in Iran, Lebanon, Russia and, perhaps, China too. After Libya, Russian and Chinese military analysts were not slow to read the implications – NATO is a weak force in the world, and getting weaker….
…The wheels of war, put in motion by the Bush presidency, kept growing faster and more destructive all during Obama’s time in office. If Obama wanted to reign in the “Crusaders” in the US Military (as Campbell calls Petraeus and his fellow Christian adventurers), appointing their poster boy to command in Afghanistan and then appointing him head of the CIA was a strange way to do it….
…Once more, Western capitalism faces a devastating crisis, and once more, looks to Africa’s fabulous wealth as its only possible hope for survival.
Campbell considers the political and economic dynamics in Africa, and finds that much has changed since the close of the 20th century. Colonel al-Gaddafi had sent shock waves through Europe when he convinced the Italian state to agree to war reparations of $200 million per year, for 25 years, for its past colonial crimes against the Libyan people, along with the return of cultural artefacts stolen during the colonial occupation.
What if every African country did the same? How could Europe answer such a demand? How could the West present itself as Africa’s aid, when it fails to pay what it owes in reparations? Or even admit to them. And no more is Africa limited to doing business with the West. China, India and Brazil have been extremely active across Africa. While the West seems to have nothing to offer Africa but bombs, these countries offer real development. It has often been said that the war on the Libyan people was really a proxy war against China. There is certainly some truth in that, but, perhaps, China also was not overly happy with Al-Gaddafi’s ideas about a strong and united Africa. China certainly didn’t do much to stop Libya from being lynched….
…Rasmussen’s “success” in Libya has been slow to yield the Western oil companies the prize they so coveted. Indeed, the pervasive atmosphere of violence and almost total lack of state security has meant that, far from there being more Western companies in Libya, those who had already been there during the Jamahiriya are now fleeing the country – trying to offload their investments at hugely discounted prices to anyone foolhardy enough to buy. A strike in the oil industry has brought the country to a virtual standstill.
[Eastern and Central Libya has become Cyrenaica…and this is where the great majority of Libya’s oil is drawn, processed and refined for sale. The Fezzan and South Libya remain loyal to Great Jamahiriya and their Supreme Commander Muammar al-Qathafi who heads the Green Resistance with his son Major-General Saadi, and first in Military Command, his other son, Golden General Khamis predominently in the Western Green Nafusa Mountains (with his 32nd Civil Brigade and the Zintani “QaQaa BRIGADE” and their XANTHAN.]
…Today, Libya is under the de facto control of approximately 1700 mostly MISURATAN Zionista (babies of BERNARD LEVY), and the Eastern DERNA (& the tuber/TOBRUK) “dirt al-Qaeda militias” (who call themselves the “Islamic Emarite of Libya”), who subject the people to whatever laws they want to make up – including public floggings for breaking their made-up (fake) Islamic codes (under a NATO Mufti named Sadak Gharyiani).
There are constant turf wars between these (al-Qaeda affiliated) militias ( reminicent of the Gangland Wars of usa in the 1930’s), which not only claim the lives of militia members, but also members of the public, who are often caught in the crossfire. Most political parties have withdrawn from the so-called (General) National Congress or their “Allaotunai Conference”, leaving the ‘Muslim’ Brotherhood’s “JUSTICE & CONSTRUCTION” Party to dominate all facets of the GNC puppet… pretence of a “government”.
Libya, Somalia, DR Congo, Mali – it seems that these broken states follow the AFRICOM / NATO paradigm for Africa. The hope now is that Syria can join the list of once-states that “we Westerners” can feel confident will stay put in the dark ages, and never raise their heads again. Perhaps, when Rasmussen described NATO’s war against the Libyan people as a success, he simply meant that Libya’s oil and water will no longer be used as a means to unite Africa. From now on, Libyan resources will be used as a weapon against Africa – to fund the further imperialist domination of Africa.
BUT THERE STILL ABOUNDS a GREAT note of hope, defiance, and respect in the African leader and Universal Muslim IMAM, Mu’ammar al.Qathafi.
Africans, have come to the realization that the time has come when they must intensify their efforts for African Unity.
Only a United Africa can secure the people of Africa the peace, justice and prosperity they so richly deserve, and which the great natural and human wealth of Africa should guarantee them.
Horace Campbell writes:
“…Far from humiliating and silencing Africans, there is now a realization that the work for the freedom and unity of Africa must be engaged with even more clarity….”

Baby Muhammed is shown here with his maternal grandparents and father Mu’ammar (born in 1970 from Mu’ammar first wife of barely 3 months, Fatiha al-Nuri).
Until Muammar remarried Safya Farkos in late 1971, Muhammed was raised by his grandparents al-Nuri.
Muhammad’s first brother , Saif al-Islam was born in June 1972.
As of this day, he is the only one of Muammar’s children who does not have a warrant out for arrest…But he remains faithful to his siblings and step-mother.
The telecoms chief. Born 1970.
Believed to be in Algeria
The Colonel’s eldest son, Mohammed was head of the Libyan Olympic Committee and ran the main state-run telecommunications firm.
His firm was Libya’s main internet provider, and cut off links to the rest of the web soon after protests began in February.
He told Al-Jazeera news he had been detained by rebels as they punched through the suburbs of Tripoli and was under house arrest.
“They are besieging my house. Yes, the gunfire is inside my house,” he said, before the line was suddenly cut off.
But it later emerged he too had escaped the rebels after being snatched by “maybe Gaddafi’s forces,” according to Ali Suleiman Aujali of the National Transitional Council.
Mohammed is believed to have fled to Algeria along with his mother Safiya, sister Aisha and brother Hannibal.

GLENN BECK: IMPEACH OBAMA AND GOP STARS
‘It’s the height of insanity … I believe it is treason’
Media giant Glenn Beck is now calling for the impeachment of President Barack Obama as well as some of the biggest names in the Republican Party for “arming known terrorists.”
Beck is reacting to a White House announcement Monday that waives part of the Arms Export Control Act to allow “non-lethal assistance” to rebels in Syria.
“I called today for the very first time in my career … I personally am calling to impeach the president of the United States. This is impeachable. He is arming known terrorists, and people like John McCain should be impeached as well,” Beck said on his broadcast this week.
“We know some of the arms are going to fall into the hands of al-Qaida. And how do we know that? Because the president just had to waive the law saying that we are going to arm known terrorists,” Beck said. “If that’s not an impeachable offense, for Lindsey Graham, for John McCain, for John Boehner, for the president of the United States, I don’t know what an impeachable offense is.”
Read the details of Obama’s actions and how they don’t align with the Constitution, in “Impeachable Offenses,” by Aaron Klein and Brenda J. Elliott.
“This president, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and John Boehner, and anyone else who stands for giving aid and comfort, military support to al-Qaida in Syria, should be impeached,” Beck continued. “Notice there’s Republicans and Democrats, so it’s clearly not about party.”
“We did not get into bed with Hitler to defeat Japan. We did not do it,” Beck added. “It’s the height of insanity. But I also believe it is impeachable. I believe it is treason.”
Beck noted a disturbing irony when it comes to Obama’s treatment of U.S. citizens compared to terrorists.
“He’s taking guns away from the people while giving guns to al-Qaida,” Beck said. “What else do you need for impeachment?”
National Security Council spokesman Caitlin Hayden issued a statement on the action, according to the Washington Examiner:
“This action will allow the U.S. Government to provide or license, where appropriate, certain non-lethal assistance inside or related to Syria. This includes: 1) chemical weapons-related personal protective equipment to international organizations, including the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, for the conduct of their operations; 2) chemical weapons-related life-saving assistance for organizations implementing Department of State or U.S. Agency for International Development programs to strengthen local Syrian health care providers’ ability to prepare for and respond to any use of chemical weapons; and 3) defensive chemical weapons-related training and personal protective equipment to select vetted members of the Syrian opposition, including the Supreme Military Council, to protect against the use of chemical weapons. This action is part of longstanding and ongoing efforts to provide life-saving chemical weapons-related assistance to people in need in Syria.”
Technically speaking, while presidents can be impeached from office, members of Congress cannot, although they can be expelled from their seat by their own chamber.
Glenn Beck isn’t the only major voice calling for impeachment of President Obama.
Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano says Obama would be a candidate for removal if he bombs Syria, with or without congressional approval or a Russian disarmament plan.
WND separately has reported on members of Congress who have talked about impeachment.
Among those on the list are Rep. Bill Flores, R-Texas; Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif.; Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla.; Rep. Kerry Bentivolio, R-Mich.; Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas; Rep. Blake Farenthold, R-Texas; Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla.; Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah; Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C.; Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn.; Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas; Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas; Rep. Trey Radel, R-Fla.; Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa; and Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla.
WND previously reported on others who have brought up the idea of impeaching Obama.
Among those is a Florida-based organization of black Republicans, which released “articles” that charge Obama with “egregious acts of despotism that constitute high crimes and misdemeanors.”
According to the Florida WatchdogWire, there are 10 articles, including obstruction of the investigation in the Benghazi, Libya, murder of four Americans; the scandal of the administration’s running guns to drug ring lords in Mexico; and the Internal Revenue Service’s campaign to obstruct the operations of conservative and Christian organizations.
The National Black Republican Association is an organization dedicated to returning “black Americans to their Republican Party roots by enlightening them about how Republicans fought for their freedom and civil rights, and are now fighting for their educational and economic advancement.”
The organization said the articles were delivered to Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker John Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.
“On July 4, 1776, the founders of our nation declared their independence from governmental tyranny and reaffirmed their faith in independence with the ratification of the Bill of Rights in 1791. Asserting their right to break free from the tyranny of a nation that denied them the civil liberties that are our birthright, the founders declared: ‘When a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty to throw off such government.”
There already is a grass roots movement called Overpasses For Obama’s Impeachment, which is staging protests on freeway overpasses calling for impeachment.
WND also has reported Watergate investigator Bob Woodward of the Washington Post compares Obama to Richard Nixon. And there’s a national petition that calls on Congress to immediately investigate the “unconstitutional and impeachable offenses” of Obama.
Sign the petition right away!
The petition encouraging Obama’s removal from office states: “Therefore, we the undersigned urge Congress to immediately undertake a full and impartial investigation into the many blatantly unconstitutional actions of Barack Obama. For members of Congress, each of whom has also sworn a solemn oath to uphold the Constitution, to allow a president to routinely flout the Supreme Law of the land without being held accountable is equally repugnant to a free country and a free press.”
Tens of thousands already are on board with the effort, which is just the latest in a long string of calls for impeachment or an investigation.
Impeachment also has been brought up by several WND columnists.
Nat Hentoff wrote that Obama, “since taking office, has continually limited the First Amendment, the most singular and powerful right that distinctly identifies Americans from residents in all other countries on Earth.”
Columnist Bert Prelutsky took it further.
“I want Obama to go through the process because he has it coming. In totalitarian states, after all, the people have no other recourse except to take to the streets and spill blood. But we have available the process of impeachment, and Obama should be forced to defend his contemptible lies and actions,” he wrote. “If for no other reason than his unbearable arrogance, the schmuck should have to pay a penalty. For instance, when a White House reporter asked him to justify spying on the Associated Press, Obama said, ‘I’ve still got 60,000-plus troops in Afghanistan and I still have a bunch of intelligence officers around the world.’ No, sir, the United States has 60,000-plus troops in Afghanistan and a bunch of intelligence officers around the world.”
A panel of top constitutional experts convened by WND blasted Obama’s actions in office. Bruce Fein, the legal scholar who is best known for having drafted articles of impeachment against former President Clinton for perjury after he lied under oath, said Obama’s orders to drone-kill a terror suspect were “tantamount to murder.”
“You can’t have democracy and the rule of law if you never get to know what the facts are and you just have to accept what the government says they are. If you don’t have a trial, that’s the definition of tyranny.”
Louis Fisher, a scholar in residence at the Constitution Project, said of Obama’s appointment of “czars”: “That is a big deal. A lot of people say, ‘Well, that’s been going on a long time.’ In our form of government, citizens vote for representatives and representatives pass laws. You have people heading departments, and they’re confirmed. There’s an understanding that we will call you up whenever we need to. … Congress passed legislation saying there’d be no funds for three czars, and they were named in the bill. Obama signed it into the law, but in the signing statement, he said that’s unconstitutional because he has the ‘prerogative’ to get the advice he needs to implement statutes. Well, c’mon Obama. You don’t have a prerogative to bring into the White House anybody you want at any salary. It’s all done by law. It goes back to 1978 where Congress passed legislation saying you have this number of people and these are their salaries and Congress can increase or decrease that at any time.”
And Herbert Titus, counsel to the law firm William J. Olson who previously taught constitutional law, common law and other subjects for 30 years at five different American Bar Association-approved law schools, said Obama’s military actions in Libya are a strong argument for impeachment.
“That’s the one that stands out. It’s unprecedented. It doesn’t even fit within any of the precedents that have been set since Korea.”
Obama should have seen such a move coming. A poll earlier this year found half of Americans saying he should be impeached.
“It may be early in the process for members of Congress to start planning for impeachment of Barack Obama, but the American public is building a serious appetite for it,” said Fritz Wenzel ofWenzel Strategies, which did the telephone poll.
On the issue of the Benghazi scandal, in which four Americans were killed after terror threats were ignored, 50.1 percent of Americans said Obama should be impeached. That included 27.6 percent of the responding Democrats.
All of America is buzzing about impeaching Obama. Now you can order Aaron Klein’s latest blockbuster, “Impeachable Offenses: The Case for removing Barack Obama from Office.”
On the IRS harassment of conservative and Christian organizations? Forty-nine percent said they agree that impeachment is appropriate, including 24.4 percent of the Democrats.
And on the fishing trip the Obama administration took into AP reporters’ telephone records in search of a security breach that may have been done by his own administration, 48.6 percent said impeachment is appropriate. That included 26.1 percent of the Democrats.
Former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan wrote that the country is in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate.
“The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous” she said. “No one likes what they’re seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration’s credibility deeply, probably irretrievably damaged. They don’t look jerky now, they look dirty. The patina of high-mindedness the president enjoyed is gone.
Noonan said Obama, “as usual, acts as if all of this is totally unconnected to him.”
“He’s shocked, it’s unacceptable, he’ll get to the bottom of it. He read about it in the papers, just like you. But he is not unconnected, he is not a bystander. This is his administration. Those are his executive agencies. He runs the IRS and the Justice Department,” she continued. “A president sets a mood, a tone. He establishes an atmosphere. If he is arrogant, arrogance spreads. If he is too partisan, too disrespecting of political adversaries, that spreads too. Presidents always undo themselves and then blame it on the third guy in the last row in the sleepy agency across town.”
It’s even being compared to Watergate, the break-in that ultimately led to the resignation of President Nixon. That was the assessment of no less than Woodward, whose reporting on Watergate eventually snared the sitting president.
Woodward said recently: “If you read through all these emails, you see that everyone in the government is saying, ‘Oh, let’s not tell the public that terrorists were involved, people connected to al Qaeda. Let’s not tell the public that there were warnings.’ And I have to go back 40 years to Watergate when Nixon put out his edited transcripts to the conversations, and he personally went through them and said, ‘Oh, let’s not tell this, let’s not show this.’ I would not dismiss Benghazi. It’s a very serious issue.”
Additionally, radio host Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor and one-time presidential candidate, predicted Obama won’t serve out his second term because of his complicity in a cover-up over Benghazi.
Others who have raised the subject include rock legend and gun-rights defender Ted Nugent, who said there’s “no question” Obama should be impeached.
He blasted “the criminality of this government, the unprecedented abuse of power, corruption, fraud and deceit by the Chicago gangster-scammer-ACORN-in-chief.”
“It’s so diabolical,” he said.
Even Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin called for the impeachment of Obama over his policy of permitting drone strikes on American citizens overseas who are members of terrorist organizations.
On WABC Radio’s “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio,” Benjamin affirmed she believes the drone warfare is an impeachable offense.
See Dennis Kucinich advocate for impeachment over Libya:
WND also compiled a special report on the various offenses Obama is blamed for committing and reported what experts on the Constitution believe should be happening.
See detailed results of the recent survey questions:
The administration of Democrat Barack Obama has still not satisfied congressional and media questions about just what it knew and when it knew it about the terrorist attack on U.S. diplomats in Benghazi, Libya, last September 11. That attack killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya. The Obama administration has changed its explanation of that attack several times since and has so far refused to identify those officials who made key decisions not to send help to stop the attacks, and who decided not to initially call the killings a terrorist attack. Knowing that and anything else you may be aware of about this issue, do you agree or disagree that President Obama should be impeached over his handling of this situation?
It has been learned that the Internal Revenue Service, under the administration of Democrat Barack Obama, has purposely targeted conservative and Christian groups for harassment over their tax exempt status while giving liberal nonprofit groups little or no scrutiny. Further, the IRS apparently leaked private tax information from these conservative groups to opposing liberal groups who were able to use that confidential information for political advantage. Knowing this and anything else you may be aware of about this issue, do you agree or disagree that President Obama should be impeached over his handling of this situation?
It has been learned that the U.S. Department of Justice under the administration of Democrat Barack Obama secretly obtained confidential telephone records of many reporters of the Associated Press in Washington, D.C. Attorney General Eric Holder has said his department obtained the phone records without the permission or knowledge of the Associated Press in order to find who in the federal government was leaking information about terrorist plots against America. AP officials have strongly protested this invasion of their privacy but the administration stands by its actions. Knowing this and anything else you may be aware of about this issue, do you agree or disagree that President Obama should be impeached over his handling of this situation?

Gadaffi Coming to King Oyo`s Party
by Catherine Bekunda and Raymond Baguma

Toro Queen mother, Best Kemigisa (left), talking to Muammar al-Qathafi during one of his visits to Uganda
Kampala, Apr 13, 2010 (New Vision/All Africa Global Media) — LIBYAN leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi is to attend this week the 18th birthday and coronation celebrations of the king of Toro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
Former premier Stephen Nyabongo said Gaddafi and at least 100 kings from all over the world are expected to attend the three-day event.
President Yoweri Museveni has also confirmed attendance and will be the chief guest. Officials said they expect all Ugandan kings, including Kabaka Ronald Mutebi, to attend.
“Kabaka Ronald Mutebi, who is also a guardian to the young king, will attend to see the person he has been taking care of come of age,” officials said.
“The King of Kings (Gadaffi) is expected in Toro this Saturday,” Nyabongo told journalists at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel yesterday.
Gadaffi got the title in August 2008, from over 200 African kings and traditional rulers, including a delegation from Uganda, when they met in the Libyan city of Benghazi.
Toro kingdom shares close ties with Libya. Gaddafi was instrumental in funding the renovation of the king`s palace in 2003 and has been funding other kingdom activities.
Oyo will be taking over the administration of the kingdom from the regents who have helped him since he was crowned 15 years ago at the age of three, after the death of his father, Patrick Olimi Kaboyo II.
Explaining the significance of the day, Nyabongo said: “The king will outline his programme of action for the next five years.”
He said Oyo will focus on education in the kingdom. “His immediate focus will be on informal education which forms a basis for primary and secondary education,” the official said.
“The indiscipline and corruption we see are associated with the lack of informal education in the families and communities.”
The king is also expected to call upon his subjects to build granaries like in olden times as a means to creating food security.
Being a youthful king, Oyo will also promote education which is particularly important to the youth, said James Murungi, the kingdom`s protocol minister.
The Saturday coronation anniversary will be preceded by the celebration of the king`s birthday on Friday beginning with a church service. After this, the youthful king will host a party named “Kasiki” in which he will be saying goodbye to childhood.
Leading singers Jose Chameleone, Juliana Kanyomozi, Radio and Weasel, Bobi Wine and Aziz Azion are expected at the party.
Minister Murungi said beautiful girls from Toro kingdom will be “paraded” at the kasiki and a cultural dance “amakondere” as the king becomes an adult.
The celebrations will be concluded on April 18, with court cases and judgements being handed over to the king. A special meal called “Oruhango rwa nyakacaki” (the Toro royal luncheon which is prepared by men) will be served. Traditionally, the king`s food is not prepared by women.
Meanwhile, Oyo`s mother Best Kemigisa has hailed Kabaka Mutebi for being an exemplary guardian to the young king. She said this when the Kabaka made a courtesy visit to Oyo`s palace in Buziga in Kampala yesterday.
Mutebi also marks his 55th birthday today beginning with prayers at Kibuli Masque in Kampala.
Commenting on Oyo`s coming of age, Mutebi said: “It has been my pleasure through the past years to be one of the guardians on the Omukama. This was not something I found a burden. Rather, it was taking a responsibility of looking after a young brother. It is special joy for me to be relieved of my responsibilities, to see that the Omukama has come of age and is taking on the responsibilities of Toro.”

Early life and military academy
Muammar al-Qathafi was born in 7 June 1942 in Qasr Abu Hadi, a rural farming area located just outside the town of Sirte in western Libya.
He was raised in a Bedouin tent in the Libyan desert near Sirte. According to many biographies, he came from an Arab tribal family called the Qadhadhfa.
At the time of his birth, Libya was an Italian colony. According to Gaddafi, his paternal grandfather, Abdessalam Bouminyar, fought against the Italian
occupation of Libya and died as the “first martyr in Khoms, in the first battle of 1911”.
In 1948, when Muammar was six years old his father was wounded and witnessed the death of two cousins when an old mine left by soldiers of the colonial Italian Royal Army
exploded near Sirte. This incident is said to have influenced his later views towards the former colonialist powers in general and towards Italy in particular.
Qathafi attended a Muslim elementary school far from home in Sabha, during which time he was profoundly influenced by major events in the Arab world and the Arab nationalist movement. He admired Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser and looked to him as a hero during his rise to power in 1952. In 1956 Qathafi took part in anti-Israeli protests during the Suez Crisis. In Sabha he was briefly a member of Scouting. He finished his secondary school studies under a private tutor in Misrata, concentrating on the study of history. In 1951, Libya gained independence under the Western-allied King Idris.
Qathafi entered the Royal Libyan Military Academy at Benghazi in 1961, and graduated in 1966. After graduating, Qaddafi steadily rose through the ranks of the military, and joined a group in hopes of deposing King Idris due to increasing dissatisfaction with his rule. Both towards the end of his course and after graduation, Qathafi pursued further studies in Europe. False rumours have been propagated with regards to this part of his life, for example, that he attended the United Kingdom’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He did in fact receive four months’ further military training in the United Kingdom in advanced communications as a Signals officer, and spent four months in London. After this, as a commissioned officer he joined the Engineers Corps.
Libyan revolution of 1969
In Libya, as in a number of other Arab countries, admission to a military academy and a career as an army officer only became available to members of the lower economic strata after independence. A military career offered an opportunity for higher education, for upward economic and social mobility, and was for many the only available means of political action. For Gaddafi and many of his fellow officers, who were inspired by Nasser’s brand of Arab nationalism, a military career was a revolutionary vocation.
As a cadet, Gaddafi associated with the Free Officers Movement. Most of his future colleagues on the Revolutionary Command Council (RCC) were fellow members of his graduating class at the military academy. The frustration and shame felt by Libyan officers by Israel’s massive defeat of the Arab armies on three fronts in 1967 fuelled their determination to contribute to Arab unity by overthrowing the Libyan monarchy. As disaffection with King Idris grew, Gaddafi became involved with a movement of young officers to overthrow the king while a cadet.
On 1 September 1969, a small group of junior military officers led by Gaddafi successfully staged a bloodless REVOLUTION against King Idris while the king was in Turkey for medical treatment. Idris’s nephew, Crown Prince Sayyid Hasan ar-Rida al-Mahdi as-Sanussi, was formally deposed by the revolutionary Gaddafi officers and put under house arrest; having overthrown and abolished the monarchy, they proclaimed the Libyan Arab Republic.
Although often referred to as “Colonel Gaddafi”, he was in fact only a Lieutenant when he seized power in 1969. His people promoted him to Colonel after the al-Fateh GREAT REVOLUTION of LIGHT 01 SEPT 1969-.
al-Qathafi was named commander-in-chief of the armed forces and chairman of the Revolutionary Command Council, Libya’s new ruling body. At age 27, Qathafi had become the ruler of Libya.
Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi (Arabic: معمر محمد أبو منيار القذافي) (June 1942[nb 1] – 20 October 2011), commonly known as Muammar Gaddafi /ˈmoʊ.əmɑr ɡəˈdɑːfi/ (Arabic: مُعَمَّر القَذَّافِي Muʿammar al-Qaḏḏāfī audio (help·info)) or Colonel al-Qathafi, was the official ruler of the Libyan Arab Republic from 1969 to 1977.
On 11 DEC 1969, Qathafi replaced the Libyan Constitution of 1951 with laws based on the political ideology he had formulated, which he called the Third International Theory.

01 September 1969
al-Qathafi seized power in a bloodless military REVOLUTION from King Idris in 1969 and served as the country’s head of state until 1977.
Leader of Libya
On gaining power he immediately ordered the shutdown of American and British military bases, including Wheelus Air Base. He told Western officials that he would expel their companies from Libya’s oil fields unless they shared more revenue. In his warning, he alluded to consultation with Nasser. The oil companies complied with the demand, increasing Libya’s share from 50 to 79 percent. In December 1969, Egyptian intelligence thwarted a planned coup against Gaddafi from high-ranking members of his leadership. Many of the dissenters had grown uneasy with his growing relationship to Egypt.
Qathafi soon replaced country’s official Gregorian calendar with an Islamic calendar and forbade the sale of alcohol He renamed the months of the calendar. August, named for Augustus Caesar, was renamed Hannibal, and July, after Julius Caesar, was renamed Nasser, for Gamal Abdel Nasser.
In 1970, al-Qathafi expelled the remaining Italian settlers from Libya, and emphasized what he saw as the battle between Arab nationalism and western imperialism. He vocally opposed Zionism and Israel as a unique state. (Later in years, he was to explain all this in his “WHITE PAPER, known a “ISRAELTINE”.)
In the early 1970s, Qathafi created the Revolutionary Committees as conduits for raising political consciousness until the populace could be sufficiently educated*1, with the aim of direct political participation by all Libyans rather than a traditional party-based representative system. In 1979, however, some of these committees had eventually evolved into self-appointed, sometimes zealous, enforcers of revolutionary orthodoxy.
The Revolutionary Committees occasionally kept tight control over internal dissent; reportedly, ten to twenty percent of Libyans worked as informants for these committees, with surveillance taking place in the government, in factories, and in the education sector. During the 1970s, Libya executed members of the Islamist fundamentalist Hizb-ut Tahrir faction.
Qathafi increasingly devoted himself to “contemplative exile” over the months following an attempted assassination attempt,
writing a desert spiritual masterpiece for humanity, he called “The Green Book”, in which he denounced capitalism and communism as variations on “slavery”
and spurned all political parties as forms of “dictatorship”.
In the GREEN BOOK, Qathafi advocated direct rule by People’s Committees according to Islamic law. At this time, routine administrative tasks fell to Major Abdessalam Jalloud,
who became president in place of al-Qathafi in 1972.
Two years later, Jallud assumed al-Qathafi’s remaining administrative and protocol duties, to allow al-Qathafi to devote his time to revolutionary theorizing.
al-Qathafi remained the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and the effective head of state. The foreign press speculated about an eclipse of his authority
within the RCC, but Gaddafi soon dispelled such theories by imposing measures to restructure Libyan society.
Early reforms and actions
al-Qathafi signed an agreement with Tunisian president Habib Bourguiba to merge nations in 1974. The pact came as a surprise because Bouguiba had rebuked similar offers for over
two years previously. Weeks after the agreement, he postponed a referendum on the issue, effectively ending it weeks later. The idea of merging states was highly unpopular in Tunisia,
and cost Bourguiba much of his people’s respect. The agreement was said to allow Bourguiba the presidency while Gaddafi would be defence minister. A later treaty with Morocco’s
Hassan II in 1984 broke down in two years when Hassan II met with Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres. Gaddafi said recognition of Israel was “an act of treason”.
Increase of revenue from oil
From the beginning of his leadership, Qathafi confronted foreign oil companies for increases in revenues. Immediately after assuming office, he demanded that oil companies
pay 10 percent more taxes and an increased royalty of 44 cents per barrel. Qathafi argued that Libyan oil was closer to Europe, and was cheaper to ship than oil from the Persian Gulf.
Western companies refused his demands, and Qathafi asserted himself by cutting the production of Occidental Petroleum, an American company in Libya, from 800,000 to 500,000
that year. Occidental Petroleum’s President, Armand Hammer, met with Qathafi in Tripoli and had difficulty understanding exactly what he wanted at first.
He said at one meeting, Prime Minister Abdessalam Jalloud finally took out his gun belt and left the loaded revolver in full view. Later, Hammer recalled that moment and said he felt
then “that al-Qathafi was ready to negotiate”. In The Age of Oil, historians considered Qathafi’s success in 1970 to be the “decisive spark that set off an unprecedented chain reaction”
in oil-producing nations. Libya continued a winning streak against the oil companies throughout the 1970s energy crisis; Later that year, the Shah of Iran raised his demands to match
those of Qathafi. OPEC nations began a game of “leap frogging” to win further concessions from the oil companies after following Qathafi’s lead.
Establishment of the Jamahiriya
From 1971 to 1977, al-Qathdafi approved the Arab Socialist Union, modeled on Egypt’s Arab Socialist Union, to function as a political party in Libya. In 1976 the rank of Major General was conferred upon him by his own Arab Socialist Union’s National Congress. al-Qathafi accepted the honorary rank, but stated that he would continue to be known as “Colonel” and to wear the rank insignia of a Colonel when in uniform.
On 2 March 1977, when he stepped down from his official executive role as Chairman of the Revolutionary Command Council of Libya, he proclaimed to to be a holy Marabout and leader for his people;
but he retained the title of Supreme Commander of the Libyan Armed Forces (by the request and support of the Libyan peoples), even though he proclaimed it to be a PEOPLE’s Army:
(That LIBYA HAS NO STANDING ARMY but the armed people themselves! THUS IT WAS an ARMED PEOPLE’s ARMY.)
The GPC, at Qathafi’s behest, adopted the “Declaration of the Establishment of the People’s Authority” and proclaimed the Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya.
As utlined in his GREEN BOOK, the official political philosophy of Muammar al-Qathafi’s VISION, is the “Jamahiriya” system, unique at that time to the Libyan countryalone. Libya WAS the FIRST GREAT JAMAHIRIYA in all recorded history; and, it was presented as the materialization of the Third International Theory, proposed by Qathafi to be applied to the entire World. From 1977 onward, the Libyan Arab Great Jamahiriya officially declared itself to be a direct democracy state in which the people ruled themselves through local popular councils and communes, named Basic People’s Congresses, where all adult Libyans were allowed to participate and vote on national decisions. These people’s congresses were, in principle, the country’s highest authority. Any initiative proposed by al-Qathafi himself, requiried the consent of the People’s Congresses. Despite officially stepping down from power in 1977 and no longer holding any governmental position, by the extreme love of his people for him, al-Qathafi as MARABOUT BROTHER LEADER continued to exert considerable influence over the country’s affairs, as the founding-“father” guide for the structure of Libyan direct democracy…
By 02 MARCH 1977 the Constitution was also unanimously dropped in favor of the Holy Quaran to guide the law of the land.
After establishing the Great Jamahiriya (جماهيرية, “state of the masses”) system in 1977, Mu’ammar al-Qathafi officially stepped down from power and became known as then, the “Brother Leader” of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya from 1977 to 2011. Rising oil prices and extraction in Libya led to increasing revenues. By exporting as much oil per capita as Saudi Arabia and through various welfare programs, Libya achieved the highest living standards in Africa; Libya remained debt-free.
*1: The other surviving members of the Libyan Revolutionary Command Council remained with positions in office by virtue of leading the revolution and were thus not subject to election…but they too were dissolved by 1988 (as the people were well educated by then (a “generation” under his tuteledge”and their purpose for existance was no longer valid), and al-Qathafi styled himself as “Leader of the Revolution”.
In February 1988 Muammar Qathafi also started a prison reform and in March dissolved all of the political prisons in Libya—by being the first to knock down some of the penal institutions himself with a yellow bulldozer.
On 12 June 1988, Muammar al-Qathafi presented the world with another landmark document, first to be implememted by the Great Jamahiriya-–but also intended for the entire globe to eventually adopt (if they desired “goodness”!): It was the “GREAT GREEN CHARTER of Universal Human Rights.”—No other human rights document can be compared with this beautiful declaration of man’s basic rights under God.
Qathafi’s government faced growing opposition from Islamic extremists during the 1990s, particularly the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, which with the U.K.’s MI6 nearly assassinated him in 1996. Spies within the Great Jamahiriya (as Musa Kusa, Smalgren and Jalil) began giving counter-terrorism intelligence to MI6 and the CIA in the 1990s.
But it was Muammar al-Qathafi who issued the first arrest warrant for Osama bin Laden in 1998, after he was linked to the killing of German anti-terrorism agents in Libya. Qathafi also accused the United States of training and supporting bin Laden for war against the Soviet Union. He said the United States was bombing as al-Qaeda camps those camps that they had supported and built for him in the past. Qathafi also claimed that the bombing attempts by Bill Clinton were done to divert attention from his sex scandal.
In 2004, Shukri Ghanem, then-Libyan Prime Minister, openly told a Western reporter that Qathafi was “paying for peace” with the West, and that there was never any evidence
or guilt for the Lockerbie bombing. Indeed, many legal experts as well as the United Nations observer at the Lockerbie trial, Hans Köchler, voiced strong reservations about
the Lockerbie trial, and in 2007 the sworn affidavit of a key witness indicated that the decisive physical evidence used to convict al-Megrahi had been planted.
*2:Twenty years later (another “generation”) in 2008, a meeting of traditional African rulers bestowed on him the title “King of Kings”.
Speech to the U.N. General Assembly
On 23 September 2009, Muammar Qathafi addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York, making his first appearance despite 40 years in power. Qathafi was introduced in the General Assembly Hall as the “leader of the revolution, the president of the African Union, the king of kings of Africa,” and made speech that lasted for 90 minutes rather than the allotted 15. During his speech, Qathafi criticized the United Nations‘ inability to prevent wars, saying that “sixty-five aggressive wars took place without any collective action by the United Nations to prevent them.” Qathafi noted the Iraq war in particular as being the “mother of all evils” and suggested that those who caused the “mass murder” committed there be tried, and also defended the right of the Taliban to establish an Islamic emirate.
Qathafi raised the point of whether swine flu was made in a laboratory as a weapon, saying “The swine virus may have gotten out in the open after escaping from a laboratory. It may have been put together in a lab by the military…. We do sometimes make viruses in a laboratory and then they make viruses for capitalist companies who will make vaccinations and make money.” Qathafi also demanded a thorough re-investigation of the assassination of John F. Kennedy as well as the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Qathafi’s main point was the inequality of the United Nations, which gives five permanent members of the Security Council more power than the all the other nations that make up the General Assembly. Qathafi criticized the Security Council, saying the council “is political feudalism for those who have a permanent seat it should not be called the Security Council, it should be called the terror council.
Permanent is something for God only. We are not fools to give the power of veto to great powers so they can use us and treat us as second-class citizens.”
At one point in his speech, Colonel Qathafi waved a copy of the United Nations Charter and seemed to tear it, saying he did not recognize the authority of the document.
He suggested that the United Nations headquarters be moved to Libya. Further, Qathafi repeated his longstanding proposal that Israel and the Palestinian territories be combined
into one state called Isratine. While being critical of the United States and its foreign policy,
Not knowing Obama’s past or what the future would bring, Qathafi praised the idea that the United States had elected Barack Obama president,
whom Qathafi referred to as a “son of Africa” since he was born in Kenya. Qathafi said,
“Obama is a glimpse in the darkness after four or eight years. We are content and happy if Obama can stay forever as president of the United States.”
A leading advocate for a United States of Africa, he served as Chairperson of the African Union (AU) from 2 February 2009 to 31 January 2010.
After the 17 FEBRUARY (2013) CIA/al-Qaeda staged revolt, there was continuous unrest instigated within Libya by American CIA, MI6 and al-Qaeda operatives
working with al-Qaeda network and the ‘Muslim’ Brotherhood.
On 20 March 2013, the pagan godess of War, ST. Minerva Day, France sent the first airbombs onto Libya, by order of SARKOZY, taking off from Solenzara Airbase in Corsica..
On 30 April 2013, NATO airstrikes killed Qathafi’s sixth son and three of his grandsons at his son’s modest bung-a-low home in Tripoli.
Muammar al-Qathafi and his wife were visiting their sons home for an evening meal along
with his grandchildren from Mohammed, Hannibal and Aischa, when a missile struck at 6:00 PM. Mu’ammar was unharmed because he had just gone outside to feed the pet deer.
A neighbor and three of Qathafi’s grandchildren, and his son Saif al-Arab saw death come less than one day after the Libyan leader appeared on state television calling
for talks with NATO to end the airstrikes which had been hitting Tripoli and all over Libya including private institutions, schools, and industrial plants since the previous month.
Qathafi suggested there was room for negotiations, desiring repeatedly to do so;
but, he vowed to stay in Libya his native home, and home of his ancestors.
Western officials have remained divided over whether Qathafi was a legitimate military target under the “United Nations Security Council resolution 1973” that authorized the airstrikes by NATO
affiliated Nations (along with the States the Arab Gulf peninsula, and the Emarites, as well as Australia who volunteered to go along with the EU). Vladamir Putin questioned angrily this assumption.
